That's a sweet ride for sure. Never even heard of that brand before. That blue reminds me of my buddy's old Klein mtb. Looks like it would fit me too but I've got one in the plans soon also planning to do a similar 3x7 to 1x10 setup. Good luck selling it. Really enjoy watching your videos man so keep them coming. 👏

Cool looking bike, with that black parts it gets that modern look, because there's everything black in these new bikes... Quite highly placed bar with this stem in line with a saddle, so yeah, good for commuting and some recreational use, but it struck me right away to try fit some drop bar in there(maybe because of slick tires)... Though yeah with this long stem it would get quite extreme, but it might just compensate small size for you.

How did you manage the cassette with that derailleur? I have a slx m675 sgs rear mech with the same cassette but the inner cage plate will strike the 42 cog and prohibit the derailler from going into the largest cog. B-Screw is already all the way in.

Nice. I’m in the process of doing the same with a Trek 930 from ‘94. Canti’s replaced with V-brakes! Snap! I’m using Continental Double fighters 26x1.9”. The 7 speed hub will be swapped out but the new drive will be microShift 1x8 with a 12x46 rear and a 42 front. Maybe I should do 1x10 with a 11x48 rear? Like you the frame is one size too small for me so it will be sold hence the 1x8. Love the videos.👍
Having ridden around on my 1x8 wide ratio (11-42) conversion for about 400 miles now, what I would say on that is it's fine...BUT... using the wide ratio you can really feel the steps in gear ratio when you're shifting. Wide ratio gearing is best left to 10+ speed I think for a smoother experience.
@@MonkeyShred Thanks. I have 1x10 on my other bikes; I like it, but at the moment 1x10 microShift AdventX are not easy to find in stock in the US. I’ll try in the UK when I’m back home in the Isle of Man next month.

Hi, @MonkeyShred . Just found your channel and seen this vid, advice on the stripped threads, when using heat, heat the crank on the outside and not in the centre, heating the centre does nothing but expands the outer BB with the crank, didn't see a comment explaining this so hopefully will help you in the future, seized metal objects like in this vid inner object cool if possible outer heat. Contraction if possible and expansion helps to loosen stuck metal materials as shown in this vid. Enjoying your channel by the way ☺️
Oh, you can just SWAP the freehub body.. You just saved me quite some money. Planning something very similar with this old Raleigh Mirage I found.
Yeah, I found SJS cycles have a good selection of "modern" freehubs that have the same mating pattern as the older hub. A bit of respacing on the axle and it's good.
I recently did a similar conversion but found my rear not freewheeling, could this be the reason?

Good decision to convert this one and turn it into a 10 speed. I like that you showed the conversion for the wider axle with a slight miscalculation which then became a simple adjustment to sort 👍. Have done many the same thing on bicycles and motorcycles over the years. Well done and you kept 😊 worth the end result.

when my 1st last and hopefully only stuck and stripped crank happened it was luckily and Pinned POS.. took a very large hammer and reapeated bashing to get it off.. well over a month of breaking automotive pullers and all. multiple spanners gave their lives.
I have a Nishiki with a Stuck BB somebody burnt the NDS.. tryna buy and impact today.
very useful video for 7-8 speed carrier swaps. I've got two 7 speed wheels I want to run 8 and 9 speeds on as well as donor hubs. I guess as long as the drive splines match.. not sure what brand hubs.
Yeah as long as those freehub splines match it's usually a straight swap - taking in to account the difference in axle spacing or wheel dishing that is.
Usually I just watch your builds for the bike porn but I'm glad I actually learned something about how to fit an 8 speed freehub body on a 7 speed bike!

I have a track bike with 6speed freewheel hub, can i install an 8speed cassette hub without replacing the bike chain?
A track bike with a 6 speed? Not seen that before. Aren't they usually set up for 110/120mm rear ends? 8 speed needs a 135mm rear end on the bike and doesn't fit on 6 speed freehub bodies.

hey I couldn't follow what you switched at your axis to make the larger freehub possible... can you explain?
In a very brief summary - I measured the difference between the old freehub and new freehub and remove that amount of spacers from the drive side to keep the wheel centered on the axle.
Best to add as many spacers as required on non drive side of rear hub, minimum n drive side. It means less wheel dishing, so stronger rear wheel
Unior do a crank extractor tool that works on damaged threads.
What about the seal on the freehub body? Was there any or the bearings on the drive side are just exposed?
There are no seals on the drive side on shimano hubs
There's no real "seal" . It's just a cover really with small tolerances around the cone nuts.

Thanks. I believe road spacing might be 130mm so the frame may need "stretching" a little to accomodate a 135mm spacing which is what I used in the vid.

Round the posts? Just some "general purpose" grease I guess. Chain? It depends on the conditions you're riding in.
@@MonkeyShred normal conditions,rain and nice weather, commuting normal stuff 😁,can you recommend a chain grease?I use some decathlon liquid one but doesn't look to durable.Can the chain one(recommended one) be use around brake posts as well?thanks
@@florinb4668 Chain is an oil rather than grease. I've used Muc-Off wet and dry condition oil. For all weather I guess it would be best to run their wet lube.
It wouldn't work for brake posts really. That's proper grease.

Someone tried to restore this bike but screwed up removing the crank. So that guy gave up and sold it out.
I bought a Clark's 8spd chain and it snapped the other day less then 100 miles on the chain not impressed with Clark's chain not going to buy it ever again.
21 speed conversion to 10 speed....😂
