I'm not sure if things have changed for this module this year. I know that you study the material needed to earn a Cisco qualification but you would have needed to pay for and sit an external exam with Cisco themselves.
That's not actually stated anywhere in the course description. TM257 follows CCNA1 and CCNA2 tracks delivered via NetAcad and does not provide any access to examination vouchers or official examinations at Cisco. TM357 (the Level 3 sister course) follows CCNA3 and DEVASC delivered via NetAcad. On completion of CCNA1, 2, 3 courses via any Academy partner (including OU), a discounted CCNA examination voucher is provided which can be used to sit the examination within 1 year of issue date.
You don't sadly, you have to arrange that yourself, however, if you do well enough in the exam at the day school they give you money off the exam price, can't remember how much but it's better than nothing
@@TomWagstaff Thanks so much for the reply. Great vids BTW. I start this course in a few weeks, and have been reading through the ICND1 official cert guide - there's one hell of a lot material to learn. Also the OU module description says 'this module will thoroughly prepare you for the industry-standard ICND1 examination.' and 'You must make your own arrangements to sit ICND1 ', but it doesn't make it clear if you HAVE to sit and pass the exam to pass the OU module, so that is good to know. Any idea if the EMA is the same as the ICND1 exam?
Andrew Gardner glad you found the videos helpful, I haven’t looked at the ICND1 guide but I will say that there is a lot of information to go through throughout the module, the EMA is based off of the day school, a packet tracer activity and a writing question
@@TomWagstaff Much appreciated and ty Tom. Im not sure if doing two modules (60 credits in total ) for the upcoming year, I enrolled in a level 3 module, but I also want to do TM257 that one has 30 credits and is the first part of the CCNA. Back in the day (long long time ago) I studied and passed the ccna exam but I never practice or worked in the network area so I forgot everything and I want to have all that knowledge back. Thing is it says it has 2 TMAs and 1 EMA. My question is regarding the dates of those TMAs and the EMA, since the module starts in October and ends in JUNE, that means the EMA is going to be in JUNE, but what about those two TMAs? the first one must be around end of december ? and the second one is mid April?. Also are students required to pass all the Cisco online exams as part of the module assessment? Thanks again Tom
@@user-ro1cs5hp5e apologies for the late reply! Yes the first TMA is due in Decemeber as I have just checked my files but sadly I don't seem to have my TMA02 files (not sure why) but I seem to remember it being due in April. A big part of the tmas are the indivdual chapter quizes that take place on the cisco website and you do have to complete the end of section quizes on Cisco, I believe each section is roughly 10 chapters, you do one at home for the first section of chapters and the second one is completed at your day school. The day school takes place in April. The score from the chapter exams are averaged out over all the chapters and it gives you so many marks on a question on your TMA. So, for example, if you averaged 70% over the first 10 chapters you would receive 7 out of 10 marks for one of your questions on your tma01. I hope this helps, fel free to ask more questions and I'll get back to you when I can
@@TomWagstaff TYVM it helped me a lot. I got in touch with Student Support and they gave me the TMA dates for TM257, since Im doing TM470 I wanted t be sure that both module TMAs wont have the same cut off dates. So that means TM257 final chapter tests are mandatory and complete the overall score of each TMA? I didnt know what. U know I studied CCNA 14 years ago I wonder if things have changed, and if I could just do the CCNA part 2 (level 3 module) to save time and money. But looks like the content has changed in 14 years... :( Again many thanks for ur help. BTW have u done the CCNA part 2 module as well=?
You could always get in contact with OU about studying CCNA part 2 without doing part 1 first if you can prove you already have the knowledge etc. I'm not studying part 2, I enjoyed part 1 and it has provided excellent ground knowledge but I have gone a different path in Year 3
Hey man thanks for your videos I found them really helpful, bout to start computing and it with OU!
I'm glad the videos have been helpful! Good luck with your studies
Hi Tom, thanks for sharing your experience. Do you think it's possible to take both the Cisco networking modules (TM257 and TM357) concurrently?
Thank you so much, i would like to know more about the textbook
Hi Tim, I’m about to start my Ema..any good resources you used as the OU literature (or at least how the current ema is worded) is a bit gap hazard.
Have things changed now for 2021-22 year? Because in the qualification it says I'll be getting a widely recognized certificate.

Very helpful video. But at the end of module, do you sit the ICND1 exam to become CCENT certified?
