This is going to be great example of what Greg had been saying in his vlog. Hiring a wrong person to do the job and having have to pay a lot more to fix it. It’s better to ask for a right person even if you have to pay more, you end up paying less.
Yes but those with the kind of money to make these kinds of water features happen need to be convinced on the project. Clearly the first company delivered and the next one didn't but also convinced Shag to go forward with the project. How the hell is Shaq supposed to know who the right person is without spending money?
@@owenspalding971 Research man with that kind of money that should be easy. This was built after the initial water feature though I think right. Just saying aquascape crews have multiple RUclips channels showing off their professional and artistic builds. Even going back years later to show how well they work.
This is the result of landscapers building a pond. It looks like 60+ yrs of experience building patios and walkways went into making it look so unnatural
My 1/4 acre pond leaks some. Especially if we don’t have rain. It’s like the grass pulls it out when it’s dry. But mine is a spring fed natural pond. It’s not for looks really, more for fishing
@Ariana or he was mislead on exactly what kind of skill and engineering is required to complete a successful job such as this. He's been on a few TV programs that have done custom work for his home so he could have had a bad experience with the cameras like you said. But to the average person they look at this and think it's just a matter of money and man hours and in reality it's much more.
I lived and worked on farms many decades ago. I've seen a couple times where a farmer dug a pond that wouldn't hold water so they turned a passel of hogs in to the lot and let them wallow. One of them had a water tight pond in about 6 months. I think it took the other guy a couple years - but it worked for both in the end. This was in the Ohio river valley. Might not work as well in soils with less clay.
Yeah, I agree. But this particular location being a residential area is really more of a landscaping element than a farm pond. I assume the owner was sold on the idea of a mud bottom pond but not all the downsides of that such as muddy water. Plus mud bottom pond almost never (close to never) will be as full as needed to get a look a residential owner will want. Mud bottom farm type ponds are much better in much bigger sizes, like acre and bigger. Liner provides for many more options.
@@Thailerr - yeah - pigs can't sweat,, so they like to wallow in mud to keep cool.. Not something for residential koi ponds, but I thought I'd mention it in case someone dug a rural pond that wasn't holding water and clicked on this video looking for a solution - that doesn't involve massive liners. (You can put up a temporary electric fence to create a lot around a pond) Pigs are generally sold at around 40lbs -- or 220lbs - for two types of hog operations. Farmers that breed pigs generally raise them to around 40lbs and sell them. They are bought by other operations with feed lots that raise them to 220 slaughter weight.. so If your not a pig farmer you could still fence off a lot, buy a dozen or two 40lb'ers - feed them to 220 and sell them. Repeat until you get a water tight bottom.
@@Thailerr - Or if you have a hog farmer in the neighborhood,, you might be able to offer him a free lot to keep some pigs --let him take care of the feeding.
Money is no object and the final result is all that matters so no need to break their brains trying to work with nature, just get it done how they know how. Any other attempts risk damaging their brand when they fail.
I've built private lake's It's gotta be drained deep tarped refilled with well water and re introduced with plants fish and more plants... the base needs a bolder depth That offers directions for draining. That will not cause surrounding sink or sliding of the over all land in the surrounding area.... for lakes you need big rock's property to withstand and maintain a new natural lake... I'm not knocking the work Just game scout's potential 😎
My god why after such a good result the first time did he choose for such amateurs for the second ‘pond’ it looked pathetic. This new one will be awesome
super excited to see how this will turn out. If you were going to build an earth pool, is the key then to have large hard stone as a layer below the compact clay?
A lot of time it’s added as “insurance” for liner protection possibly protecting against something underneath poking a hole in the liner. Definitely used with rocky conditions but often used no matter what just to be safe
I love Shaq with all my heart, he deserves a good pond/water resevoir! Shaq if you read this... please send me a shaq bobblehead, you cannot get anything good in the UK! ❤

Looking great Ed! Always learn a ton from your videos

Shaq deserves only the Best.
Shaq gotta be the dream customer. Literally no budget probably
This is going to be one fantastic project. But with Ed at the helm. It will be all figured out and will be functional and great.
I really love that Shaq is so into fish it makes me happy 😊!
Im pretty sure shaq is into anything 😂
Shaq is just a wholesome dude in general

It was so nice and wholesome of Charles Barkley to help work on Shaq’s big peninsula

Frickin stoked to see the progress on this project!
Nice to see that his treehouse is still looking good too
Thats awesome Shaq has a beautiful yard
You need to get a submersible pump to drain it and put in a pond liner then refill

Wow. This is a huge job but you're the man to do it,
Hey Shaq! You need to call the Pond Professor first next time.
Shaq did one cannon ball and drained his pond by 20%
I can't believe Shaq didn't have you do that large pond in the first place. What was he thinking? LOL. You'll make it phenomenal.
We said the same thing…..

I hope Shaq learned his lesson lmao. Sorry Shaq, couldnt help it
Well done Ed, never easy, but worth the effort
RUclips algorithm is doing it's magic again definitely keep up with this pond update 👍

Is this because the hogs just pack the soil down so tight?

That’s pretty interesting, and would work for sure. I don’t think I would like to take a dip in a pork 💩 clay pond though 🤣🤣🤣👍
There’s a say in the Middle East “Give your dough to the baker, even if he eats half of it” … This is a perfect example
That pond is Shaqtin’ A Fool
I was doing plumbing and septic work across the street from this house the “basketball tree” outside is crazy cool haha along with this pond
Awesome video can't wait to see the update
The sounds like the “Pimp My Ride” of water/landscaping.
From shaq-pond, love how down to earth shaq is.👌🏽
Look out Shaq! A process server is lurking behind you.

Shaq has a beautiful looking house !
This looks amazing.
You guys are really good at what you do!
You guys should do 1 hour videos buddy of the ponds you do
Around here people use drywall scraps (gypsum) yo seal ponds
Ooooooh exciting. Something to look forward to. Something to watch.
Those investigators for ftx can’t find shaq but he’s literally everywhere
Beautiful work!
Ed to the rescue as always. U do amazing work. Ur mind is so creative sir.
Shaq with that kind of space you need a garden and fruit trees
I met Shaq at Wet n Wild Vegas in the 90s, he was skipping the queues, almost running down the slides and he was Huge... Man that was a good day
It must be fun to be Shaq!
okay shaq is a beautiful wonderful human who gives gives gives, hes a god send
i remember watching the video when you guys build the pond.. time really flies
Awesome project. We too struggle with keeping our farm pond full.
Shaq got a lesson about hiring the right people for the job. You can have it cheap or good. Not both.
Got the Shaq job ... bought all new equipment 😂😂😂

it's there a polymer you can add to the pond that would seal the leaks. another you tuber (bamabass) put it in his pond to seal his 5 acre pond leak.

He also needs help with the lawsuit papers that he just got served during the playoffs😂
When are the rest of the parts dropping?
They may be just a pond to shaq , but to us vertically challenged its a small lake .
just remember. Shaq likes it BIG. Already feeling "small" vibes coming from Mr. Small.

Ed , What is the purpose of having a geotextile membrane under the rubber membrane? Is it needed because underlying soil is to soft?
