    As a contractor that has been fixing a house that was on love it or list it years ago... I can absolutely testify that this is true! Customer spent double what they should have, only to have our company come in and fix it year later.

    To be fair, a drunk driver could just as easily crash into anyone's house, unfortunately. It doesn't have to reflect the area's income level for that disaster to happen. There are many cases of rich people crashing into their wealthy neighbour's houses, pools, etc. too.

    I'm trying to figure out why anyone would allow a show to film without paying? These shows make MILLIONS off of advertisement. Surely, they can foot the bill

    • @ukan.536

      It's not Waco they were referring to. It was the neighborhood.

      Sometimes when the Gaines "flipped" a cheap house in a poor neighborhood - the city raised property value on the other poor houses, more than what the poor people could afford for their shoddy unrenovated homes & it hurt them financially VERY much. For the Gaines to pick 1 home on the block & flip it, was not good for that neighborhood.

    • @jeanetteshawredden5643
      @jeanetteshawredden5643 Год назад +8

      @ukan.536 but that's what the Gaines would do: choose a crappy $35,000 home in a low income neighborhood & flip it - turning it into a nice expensive home. THEN YOU HAVE A DREAM HOME IN A LOW INCOME GANG-INFESTED DANGEROUS HIGH CRIME AREA. #### WHATS THE POINT OF THAT FLIP ####

    Why would you spend 200K on renovations for a house that cost less than 50K to buy?

    • @jschwarzb07
      @jschwarzb07 8 месяцев назад +2

      all depends on the ARV in the area. If it brings the value of the home to over $250k, you have just put in $200k of equity.

    I do t get the law suit against the Gaines. It's not their fault if the neighbourhood is "loud" or has hostile law enforcement

    • @jeanetteshawredden5643
      @jeanetteshawredden5643 Год назад

      It was a high crime drug infested area low income area. They took a house, say $35,000, with a big renovation budget - then what you have is a nice house in a high crime gang infested neighborhood. DUH.

    I urge anyone who elects to entrust their livelihood to these "charlatans" to at the very least please have legal representation and a professional financial counselor or manager a phone call away. They will help you navigate the numerous pitfalls, possible legal and financial troubles, and hefty tax fines and liens.
    It may cost you, but legal and financial professionals will at least help you from being sunk for sums of money that could easily have been put to giving you a quality, up to code home, and a tax bill that you can budget.

    I would like to see a show with modest ,starter homes being renovated. I don’t want to see a $50,000 kitchen redo . I want to see them saving the cabinets ,redoing the flooring ,painting and replacing appliances. I like watching the sorry girls they make things look high end wit thrifted items and find less expensive alternatives to achieve the same look .

      That was the historical premise of This Old House and Hometime. Then they turned into "blank check" home renovations. Got to meet Tommy Silva once at a home show where the talked about the actual cost of the projects on TOH because so much of that is "donated" by companies as advertising. Such that a $200K job would really by over $1M because of all the "donations."

    Your comments about Flip or Flop really had nothing to do with the quality of their remodels; they were about other ventures they were involved in. It’s kind of misleading to include them in this video about HGTV remodels gone wrong.

    How the hell is a drunk driver driving through the house HGTVs fault? Most of these people are just nit picking. I just built a really nice new house and I have tons of small things I have talked to them about. No house on earth is going to be perfect with 40 contractors coming and going every day. I could write a book on it.

    There are some people never satisfy for anything and looking for something to blame. (e.g. interfering the process and changing mind in design and color.) Mostly that was caused initial problems. Studio should do mental assessment and investigation beforehand.

    Most of these home reno shows are 100% BS and everyone knows it. The only reno show
    I can stomach is Bargain Block because they appear to share the negative as well as the
    positive and as such at least come off as credible.
