Dear friends, Mike totally forgot Time Addicts was Australian not British. It was a while since he had seen it and when they talk trashy them kind of sound alike. It's kind of like when people say Milwaukee is in Michigan. Or that Minnesota is in Wisconsin, or that Minneapolis is in Milwaukee. No one really knows where these places are. If someone says "Blimey!" "Dodgy" or some other word it's "British". And when Mike says "British" he means "Everywhere else in the world except Wisconsin" and as we all know Wisconsin is the best place in the galaxy.
To be fair everyone I know who tries to fake a British accent ends up sounding Australian within 5 words.
Wisconsin is actually part of the Twin Cities
Jeffrey Dahmer likes this!
As some one from the UK ill say we are used to it, it's ok.
minnesota wilwaukee and misconsin all sound like drunk hippies. still my favorite American accent.
Nobody hated Alien Hunt until Mr. Plinkett reviewed it.
He reviewed it?! Or is that the joke.
They're referring to the Phantom Menace review
It shaped a generation.
Don't give a shite that Darth Maul fight and the John William's score still makes it up at the end. Attack of the Clones was way way worse. That was a not acceptable.
it's better than the new alien remake prequel sequel whatever the hell is that's coming out.
At the top of the IMDB trivia for Alien Hunt (2024) at the time of writing is:
"Rich Evans from Red Letter Media has not seen this movie."
Imagine watching a movie in the theater in the midwest and hearing Rich Evan’s laugh coming from the back of the theater
I'd just die of happiness right on the spot.
I’d leave immediately. I don’t want to catch AAAAAAIIIIIIDS
I legitimately wonder if he’s ever been recognized in public by his giggles. I could imagine it happening at a superhero movie or something like that.
I have never read a comment the same as this before!
It happens every night, in my nightmares.
If you can believe it, the Iron Claw movie is TONED DOWN from the real story. They had ANOTHER brother who also took his own life, and the father often monetized each brother's death with a memorial show.
Yeesh.
Jesus.
Yay, Chris had the worst, he had brittle bone syndrome or something, and went the way Mike did.
There are plenty of well made documentaries by wrestling companies for all interested, heartbreaking stuff
Yeah, I understand why the director chose to remove him from the story and he cleared it with Kevin (though the director also stated he made sure he would still be able to move forward with that idea if he objected), but it still really feels wrong for a movie so much about the family. I also heard Chris, the brother in question, struggled with feeling like he was really a Von Erich, removing him completely from the story certainly feels wrong all the more because of that.
Zac Efron looks like an original He-Man action figure.
Only Hollywood people can get into a disfiguring accident and come out looking better. He's not the first actor to get plastic surgery and blame it on a fake car wreck.
Maybe he's getting prepped to star in a Masters of the Universe reboot. 🤔

Hi! Director of Alien Hunt here. Uhh - HOLY SHIT! Consider me honored! You even pronounced my name right! 🥲 Our movie is tiny. Like: barely-had-money-for-bug-spray tiny. So this is badass. PS - You SHOULD watch the movie! It was made to be a fun throwback to the drive-in/sci-fi Roger Corman-esque (RIP!!) movies of the 60s and 70s! We worked hard and had a lot of fun making it!! 🛸

RLM should get Kim's video library
Now that alone deserves it's own channel. Kim's video was the truth. It was my favorite shop on st marks back in the day.
That would be wonderful.
Fun fact: It was owned by relatives of real ninja master ans martial arts film star Ashida Kim and he made some appearances at the store for signings, etc.

RLM's recap episodes have become the state of the union for the decline of cinema.
And more broadly the decline of the entire internet. These guys are one of the last channels to stay as consistent as they were back in the 90s. Oh wait wait I meant the “late two-thousands / early twenty tens”. Oh wait I meant the 1940s.

@@user-dnf83n0s8sg9u yeah my theory on how they're still good is because they don't seem to let their audience dictate their content and instead just make stuff about things they are interested in. Alien Hunt was incredible! My favourite part was when the Alien said: "It's Xenomorphin time!"
A quick note for whoever that guy is that I'll always just call Mr. Plinkett about movie gun tropes: You also pump a pump shotgun after you load it because you need to load a round into the chamber behind the barrel. Before you do that, there are shells in the magazine, but the gun won't be 'charged' and can't fire. Because pump action shotguns generally have a magazine which is permanently attached to the shotgun, you keep that magazine loaded without charging the shotgun, and then pump to charge and put a round in the barrel when necessary so that you cut down on unintentional discharges and potential accidents. It's true that once you've loaded and pumped it once, subsequent pumps will remove the existing round from the chamber and put a new one in its place.
This guy guns.

I was almost excited that Mike was bringing up Alien Hunter, a weird and charming small-budget movie starring James Spader written by a clear UFO enthusiast with no knack for storytelling whatsoever. But then I realized he's talking about Alient Hunt, some nothing shot-in-the-woods movie starring nobody.
Sigourney Weaver's cameo in Alien Hunt was wild! Best acting she's done in years!
Cameo? I would call the person in the alien costume a bit more than a cameo.

Not sure if serious.
imagine if they deepfaked every character as Siguorney Weaver, we can do this now.
Mike is wrong about the shotgun. You pump it to chamber the first round after loading. I’m not financially tied to Alien Hunt which you can watch now on Prime Video and Fandango.
You load the first round after loading?
Wtf is that supposed to mean friend
You load it twice?
@@jasongarcia2140You put the shells in the gun. Then you pump it to chamber the round so it can actually be fired.
Maybe it was them pumping it a second time, and they just didn't put it in the video for us to see? I know that's what Jay was referring to at least. When they pump it and go "lets go get that bad guy". Then they aim it at the bad guy and go "freeze!" and pump it again.
@@jasongarcia2140 On a pump shotgun you would load the shells into a tube under the barrel. Then you rack a round - which places a shell into the chamber. After firing the round you rack again, which ejects the spent shell, and loads a new one. So in a way, you do load it twice on the first shot.
Alien Hunt was a cinematic masterpiece. The film in no way was able to captivate the viewer and it honestly fell flat in many aspects related to script but the monster in it kinda reminded me of that movie Alien so I left it on while my house burned down from a grease fire.

Speaking of re-releases, a local theatre had a 45th anniversary re-release of Alien a few weeks back, and when we went it was my friend, and literally only two other people in the theatre, and I want to cry.
While it is funny to hyperbolize saying that all the SW Prequel hate came after the Plinket reviews, you cannot deny the reach and impact those videos had not just on Star Wars fandom, but online critiques and humour in general. The "video essay" as we know it today spawned from those reviews.
For good or bad, not to overfluff it, but it was really like South Park often was. It changed things even for people who were either unaware of it or only knew it second-hand.
And the people who made the sequels undoubtedly saw those reviews and were influenced by them when they made their scidmarks on the cinematic toilet bowl of history.
I'd recommend watching comedy shows from around the time the prequels came out; the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones being irredeemable crap was part of the zeitgeist of the 00's. There are episodes of things like the Simpsons and Spaced that riff on it. While the Plinkett videos certainly didn't help those movies reputation, claiming RLM is responsible for those films' reputation is like saying Rise of Skywalker was only disliked because of MauLer or something (arguably even more ridiculous since at least MauLer and his tedious videos are contemporaneous of the Disney SW movies).
Yeah I’m not sure if they realise how genuinely influential their reviews were.

The Phantom Menace re-release is Disney making good on Bob Iger's 'IP mining' comment.
Re-releasing a "classic" film in theaters for an anniversary is usually a cause for celebration... for almost any other franchise (yes people genuinely like that movie). Even if it was one of the good ones, Star Wars is just so worn out that it doesn't even matter.
Also, this is the second time since the original run that Episode 1 has been re-released. Seeing the 3D conversion in the theater was what made me realize that Episode 1 has some cool stuff in it, but it's mostly just boring.

Regarding cocking shotguns. Many people load their shotguns with the action closed and store them that way for safety purposes. That way it is as ready as it can be without it being able to go off if someone happens to grab it and just pull the trigger. In such a case, you have to cock it to load the first shell before firing. It would not eject a shell because there is not yet one in the chamber. So the cocking of a shotgun before using it is not only cinematic, but does actually make practical sense in the case laid out above.

Love your output regardless, thanks for all the laughs and insight.
Not ashamed to admit I went and seen Phantom Menace in theaters again. Probably my favorite SW movie if not, tied with 3!
Thank you for spreading the Holt McCallany love, Jay! I was that one kid who was waaaay into Alien³ when it came out. I read the novelization, memorized all the prisoner's names (just like I did with the previous film's Marines) and went out of my way to follow up on a lot of the amazing cast that was featured's other movies, before and since. Holt is one of many favorite actors from that film and has been my personal Clu Gulager or Cameron Mitchell growing up.
Love these catch up videos because 9 out of 10 times I haven't seen the movie
Dusk till dawn I had no idea it was about Vampires, I loved the surprise.
I liked the part when the alien hunter looks right at the camera and says "It's time to hunt the alien."
ABIGAIL felt like the greatest remake that Dark Castle never got to do. And seeing it in a nearly empty theater without having seen that much of the trailer was heaven on earth.
The thing from Alien Hunt looks like the love child of a xenomorph and pumpkinhead.
Last Stop in Yuma County is a solid 90 minute slice of film making. Great characters, great tension and definitely feels a bit like a 90s film. It’s weird, if it had been released in the 90s it would have been lost in the mix, but being made and released now it feels like a breath of fresh air. Highly recommend.
the amount of people thinking Star Wars prequels are disliked because of Plinkett's video is insane. It's usually terminally online 20yo who weren't alive when the movie came out. I was a shitty teenager so I liked the movie but pretty much every parent was talking shit about the movie, same for the nerds who ordered some merch from abroad (there weren't many stores for geeks in my country in early 2000s, pokemon cards was the only thing we were able to get on a regular basis) and tried to cancel their orders after watching the movie
Alien Hunt is getting more promotion than their Smiling Friends appearance
The fact that they keep ignoring Dune's existence is proof of their commitment to trolling their audience.
I love it.
What's a dune?
@Ripcookiethief It's a hill made of sand, but this is not what's important right now.
they completely ignored Godzilla Minus One. I thought they would have plenty to say about that one.
They are leaning heavily into the fartsy of their artsy-fartsy phase.
@@sdzhchannelI hate sand! It's coarse, rough and full of mind altering S P I C E
Many of the surviving tapes and DVDs from the Kim's Video library have made their way back to NYC. They're now on display at the lower Manhattan Alamo Drafthouse, where you can browse and rent films from the collection for free. I haven't watched the documentary yet, but am curious if this detail is included at the end.
"the zone of interest" was excellent and fits into mikes philosophy that not every movie needs to be lite or make one feel good.
Happy to see the Jim Cummings call-out!
Y’all should watch Thunder Road if you haven’t! It’s his best imo.
He was also prominent in the Barry finale.
CORRECTION YOU FUCKS: The main Kim's was open well into the 2000s and 2010s, I had friends who worked there and it was a great place to run into famous weirdos. It was a pretty uh...funky place and it did indeed have an insane amount of movies. The one in the East Village, where my friends worked and which was kind of the main hub, didn't close until 2014, so it was an iconic thing well into my young adulthood in 2000 and 2010s NYC. Sorry about the fucks thing,
Can't wait for the Half in the bag episode about Alien Hunt
Thanks again for the clear shot of the door! SOon all other things will fade. There will only be a door.... It's like poetry...
I love the scene in Alien Hunt where the alien goes
"It's Giger Time!"
So, the alien also can't pronounce Giger properly?
Somehow, Phantom Menace got back in theaters...
Just got the two disc bluray of Alien Hunt. Can’t wait to dig in , thanks for recommendation !
