generatio zero has overused Easter egg back from the future
Could you possibly create a compilation of all the easter eggs/references in "The Talos Principle"? That game is overflowing with fun details and it'd be great to see them all in one awesome video!
For the mw2r Easter egg it may be a foreshadowing to warzone season 2 in the Cold War era be cuz mw2r released to a time close to that season maybe it was to be a foreshadowing?
But no one found out?
That’s my theory
God, I want some KFC
The stairs in the woods... Its a creepypasta. Part of it is if you walk up to the top if the stairs, something bad seemingly happens, and there is something invisible that will cut you, depending on how far up the stairs you are. Like it could just be your hands if they are out in front of you, or it could be your entire body that goes missing. It's a weird story, hard to explain. I believe that's why there is an explosion at the top of the stairs in the game.
I don't think it's something will cut you, it's more like something bad *will* happen if you go up the stairs. Doesn't even have to be related to you, but something bad will always happen to anyone in the forest when you go up those stairs. It's probably some sort of lovecraftian cosmic wheel of infinite probabilities, every single one being an outcome that is never good for you.
@@ExtrnalSorce2yup!
@@ExtrnalSorce2 I just used cut for lack of a better word. I did say something bad would happen though. And if the story, a part of you or all of you does go missing if you go up the stairs. The one guy got his hand cut off, and others have gone missing completely. And they see the man who looks like he could have been in the Civil War or an old ass Ranger. He was obviously someone who went all the way up the stairs, and "got cut" into a different time.
@@NeonPlanes Ah that does make sense, and it would also make sense in the purpose of the structure, since stairs are always supposed to lead "somewhere", we just don't know where "somewhere" will be.
@@ExtrnalSorce2 Yep, as for all the other weird shit going on, like the Waving Man and all that... Your guess is as good as mine.
Someone said once you were meant to be in the audience, rather than your couch at home, when you blow up that guy's phone for the mission in gta5. Maybe that was the number you dialed and it just never got finished.
That's always what I've thought, was a scrap left over from that mission
The set of stairs are a reference to a story about many paramedics and park rangers finding nothing but a set of stairs in the woods. They say if a paramedic or ranger climbs it, the missing person they look for will end up dead. It’s a great story if you have the time for it. The truth behind it is that stairs where usually the best built part of a building, so while most of it will break and rot away, the stairs stay. Great reference!
ruclips.net/video/mOQ8tQXGLbg/видео.htmlsi=2UuUg4Ydt07cjFnh this is a good video to reference
Thanks
Yeah it's one of the biggest and most popular reddit no sleep posts
@@alexramos7708it’s a long one. I remember back in my bo3 zombies days, listening to one of the CreepyPasta people on here tell it. Definitely worth a read/listen. I think I may have even read a similar but shorter one back when I was like 12-13
Edit; corpsehusband, search and rescue stories
In Lego Jurassic World, all the raptors have their long claws on their innermost toes, except the raptor skeleton, which has the long claw on its middle toes. This is a reference to a movie mistake in the first film, where Alan Grant claims that raptors had the claws on their middle toes during the dig scene, but later in the film, the actual raptors met have it on their innermost toes. It's also an acknowledgement that the dinosaurs cloned aren't entirely accurate to their ancestors.
I think the Hitman Blood Money easter egg may be related to an old proof of shooting skill in the American south (which is where that mission, Till Death Do Us Part, takes place). In the days of the cowboy, a gunslinger might show their skill by throwing a coin and then shooting it while it was in the air. I believe that may explain the connection between 47 shooting the coin and a bunch of guys running over clapping. As for why they're all in their underwear, maybe the "trick shot" was so good, it blew their socks off?
The EMP would still be EMP, the number 3 can be D, E or F when using it to spell out words.
For it to be ‘E’ you’d need to press the ‘3’ key twice, know what I mean?
@@CaptainEggcellent Yeah if you're using it with T9 typing. If it's a phone number, you just press the number based on if the name has ANY of the letters in it.
Agreed with poster. Either EMP or DMP would work as a phone number. Besides, by your logic, it would be DMP DPOP, not DROP. Lol. Love the videos! Keep up the awesome work 😁
@@CaptainEggcellent
When you give a phone number like “1 800 COLLECT” you map the letter to whichever number has the letter. So that C is a 2, not a 222. The phone number for this collect call company is 265-5328, not 222-6665-5555-5332-228. This is how companies make their phone number memorable before websites were a thing.
@@CaptainEggcellent By that same logic, then, it's neither EMP DROP nor DMP DROP. It's DMP DPMP. Similar to 3 being DEF, 6 is MNO and 7 is PQRS. We only press each button once, so if 3 had to be D because E requires a second press, then 6 has to always be M because I requires three presses, and 7 has to always be P because R requires three presses.
You can't mix and match like that. Either EMP DROP is possible, or there's more wrong than just the E and it's DMP DPMP.
This format is somewhat better than previous ones.
Discussing unexplained easter eggs and finding their explanation is far better than guessing easily predictable easter eggs
The stairs in the woods are a reference to a creepy pasta. Circulated on r/nosleep. It was covered as one of creep casts first episodes here on RUclips.
I wonder if, for that Gears egg, anyone has tried kicking the ball to the other X's in different orders. Maybe the scary music and laugh is a "you did it wrong" trigger.
I bet its been done though.
Yea it's been done, I spent alot of time years ago on the 360 and even on the xbone trying to solve more to it but nothing else is triggered. The knife is a reference to the book where something happens while Marcus is locked up, the blood splatter after the rat is killed also just seems to be a reference to gears 1 when the boomers are introduced. There's a spot on the outside by the ball where you can glitch out the map but will kill a player after a few seconds, but a bot will stay alive.
I really would love to see more of these types of videos.
The modern warfare Easter egg was an early nod that zombies were coming to the game, without letting people know they were coming, one year later we have zombies in mondern warfare.
3:00 It's just a creepypasta story about stairs found in the woods. The stories vary but the short version is that reaching the tip is bad news.
Excellent as always Cap, thanks! I'm constantly amazed by how many easter eggs I don't know about!
6:57 If you shoot the rat before the creepy laugh I’m pretty sure you can hear screams or something after it
Love these vids! Thx Yolk man!
The forest stairs could be a reference to a real life stair case that is in the woods in America. I believe it is Georgia, but I'm not sure about the actual locations, other than there are videos of it online.
The empty room with the blinking phone on the desk within the "Tyger Guard Holding" area at the end of "Arkham City" still feels like it's a mystery waiting to be solved. I know after so many years that if diligent easter eggs sleuths haven't found anything by now that nothing will be found, but a part of me still thinks there's more hidden in the game just waiting to be found!
I think the gta black cellphone is a leftover number from one of the main story missions. There is a mission where you call a phone and it makes a dudes head explode on TV.
Looking for this comment. Thank you brudda
except that numnber wasn't called black cellphone or whatever and also wouldn't explain random explosions in front of you nor the fact of the background of the phone turning black after you call it. Also it was a preset contact not an actual number you had to dial.
that was a prerecorded movie not an actual effect
@@philcrash7176 you still need to call a number for an effect to happen
@@blitzkreiger3395 it’s a preset contact you aren’t actually dialing it.
Green Mile? Anyone remember Mr. Jingles?
Gotta hate Percy.
Has anyone tried "following" the rat?
Sorry to go off topic, but I was just playing Powerwash Simulator, whilst cleaning the tree house, I discovered you can make the cameras spin with the powerwasher, don't know if you have covered it yet, but if you haven't definitely worth a look
The Captain returns with another banger video 🎉
Thanks for the content, Cap!
Don’t know if you covered this already, but in the original Bloodrayne, at the beginning of the first level you’ll come across a church. If you jump on the roof of the church and destroy the cross on top, there’ll be a brief earthquake.
I remembered there's a giant rat Easter egg in Gear of War series, I just don't remember which one.
and the giant golden chicken in gears 3.
There is no giant rat, But there is 3 golden chicken Easter eggs ( 1 after the prologue, 1 where your on the roof going to the gondola ( task for Griffin ) and on the multiplayer map cove. The story missions are only available to do on insane difficulty to trigger these. Idk if I explained that well but hope it helps. 😊
The Stairs are a clear reference to CK Walker's story on r/NoSleep. When a character in the story walks up the stairs an "explosion" of sorts leaves the character seriously injured. I JUST STARTED LISTENING TO THE AUDIO VERSION OF THE STORIES.
Originally posted under the user name Searchandrescuewoods, and the loose inspiration for Season 3 of Channel Zero
The staircase in the woods could be a reference to the "My Property Isn't Normal" Creepypasta, which is a funny listen on youtube. One of the middle episodes has a random staircase in the woods

stairs in the woods is a creepypasta. they themselves dont do anything but when a park ranger looking for a kid stepped on them they never found the kid and his coworkers told him that was why
a detail you forgot to mention for the black cellphones is that when you call it the background of your characters phone also turns black.
For someone who Is a massive gears of war fan, the Easter Egg symbolises the cutscene In gears of war ultimate edition where the boomers stand on the rat, I also believe you see a boomer at the far back to where the ball is put through, and the locked door is also from gears of war comics of the moans from the imprisoned criminals. Or the first mission on gears of war ultimate edition where Marcus is saved from the prison cell.
Don't you hate when you take a shit and run out of toilet paper?
Yeah that is annoying to be fair
@@CaptainEggcellentIn Scribblenauts Unlimited if you type Lie into the notpad it spawns a cake as a reference to Portal and the iconic qoute ”THE CAKE IS A LIE”.

@@MrSnake9419 WTF 😳
Just dip your bum in the toilet!
Maybe the Hitman one is an Evangelion reference. Shooting a money (coin) - try reverse the words, then people applauding around you... yeah, seems plausible.
Black cellphones literally makes the cellphones black..... The explosion is just there to denote it was input correctly. Michaels default phone is blue, franklins is green, etc
Love this video idea!!
Season 3 (Butcher's Block) of the show Channel Zero also had a "Stairs in the Woods" type of story. That season came out in 2018.
Channel Zero was based on Creepypastas. I had a weird obsession with the Candlewood Cove story at the time that show came out. As others have pointed out there is a Creepypasta story about stairs in the woods.
@@silicabeastmaster1175 I only mentioned that show because another show was mentioned in the video. I apologize for being late to the comment section.
@@frontrownegative Not your fault, friend. Just thought I would help set the record straight for you. Not everyone knew Channel Zero was based on creepypasta's...and not everyone realised the Channel Zero show was a thing...in my country it was shown on a very niche channel that went bust a few years after it started.
only a fools walks up the stairs in the woods. Honestly one of my favorite internet stories of all time.
Personally, I think calling the "black cellphones" number was originally intended to be a phone bomb thing, like what Lester did to that one dude. Jay something. But somewhere along the way, the devs, either in a half-assed effort to remove it or they inadvertently made simple bug or something with the coding makes the explosion happen above you.
D and E are both on the number 3 on a phone keypad. So to say that DMP is more accurate than EMP in the GTA one is (probably) incorrect. EMP definitely seems more likely.
Agreed, because if the E is wrong, the the R and O are wrong as well
The stairs in the woods is a real world thing.
Info on the Stairs in the Woods:
Observatory - Sculpture Trail, Forest of Dean Observatory by Bruce Allen, commissioned for the Sculpture Trail in 1988, is a stair-like structure of blackened construction. It is set in a glade amidst fairly young beech trees and stands beside a remarkably still pool. Underneath the staircase there is a cave-like room which is designed to recall the mining heritage of the area.
there's another one on Generation Zero, I forgot where it is exactly, but it's near a bunker (I know, I know, there's tons of bunkers in the game) it's an old barn with Christmas lights and decorations, has a second floor, has instruments and gear/stuff for your typical teenage/young adult hangout, me and my friends came across it and got really really creeped when suddenly the whole forest became foggy, some distant booming sounds suddenly started and a weird woman? or young girl voice/whispers coming from the forest will also start happening, it's really really weird, I can try to find where it is if I get reminded of it when in the game.
Sounds like a good time 🗣
I remember Oddheader talking about the Gears of War Easter Egg in one of his videos. I think he even showed a Twitter thread where someone got in contact with a developer, but they either didn’t have the information or the developer’s tweets were deleted.
The show Channel Zero also did a reference to the stairs in the woods leading to an alternate universe with evil cannibals, which is based on a creepypasta called Search and Rescue woods
The gen 0 staircase mystery I’m 90% sure is an Easter egg about the staircase in the woods creepy pasta in the creepy pasta some people would try to climb the stairs and get hit by lightning or get cut in half or something like that so I’m sure it’s that but who knows
That GoW easter eggs its complicated, i dont remember how It go, but It have to do with shooting the rats, active some showers AND recolect a knive, also theres was some ligthing hitting a pole outside... Like i said It was complicated,
very good ester agg
I'm curious about an easter egg in poppy playtime. in the updated ch.1 there is a limon on one of the catwalks after Huggy's defeat, it can even trigger a death screen. it then reappears in ch.3 hidden in the school. I have no idea what it means or why mob games even added it.
For gears of war, shoot the rat on when it crosses the X, after that go open the door and a boomer will walk out, let him follow you and shoot other x’s, after that a little surprise happens,
Surprise no one knew this
The cod modern Warfare 2 remastered easter egg was a trailer to cod cold war zombies that came out the same year
Remember that some devs just like to put easter eggs into their game because they tried something and it worked but had no use, so they made it an easter egg. Like you said with the the hitman easter egg, it could be the devs trying to see if they can make NPC interact with 47, scrapped the idea but didn't want the effort wasted so they made it an easter egg.
Or if a dev finds a funny bug that they make it an easter egg. Like if someone was messing around with the models, and one of the characters got a huge head by doing something, they could make that bug an easter egg because how funny it is. Easter eggs don't need meaning, they can always be effort that the devs didn't want to go to waste.
A nuclear explosion high in the air can create an emp (or nemp) puls the higher/bigger the explosion the wider affected area, that may be what's emplied by the explosion
Rat in prison can be a ref to mouse from Green Mile
2:00 ish emp fits. Look at a landline, or old t9 cell phones. You'll find on the dial pad each number is associated with 3 letters except 7 and 9 which are four letters each and 1 which is skipped entirely. Meaning 3 can be expressive of d, e, or f.
Perfect time for bed, I work 3rd shift ;*
I thought a gears dev came out years ago and said it was a part of a bigger easter egg but they couldn't finish it in time?
7:14 - I do not have the Gears of War 3 game so I am unable to try, but is there a possibility of bouncing or moving the ball near the other X marks? If the ball can be shot at and still remain intact you may need to use that method to get it to bounce. (Other games physics engines sometimes impart more inertia to objects struck by bullets.) My theory is that by bouncing or moving the ball close to the other marks other parts of the egg will be revealed. It may be that the target hole is the final destination and they coded it to not do anything unless the other parts were unlocked. There may also be other objects on the level that need to be moved to those locations. I would also consider the order in which the marks are unlocked.
Imma guess the stairs is O.O.P. (Object of power)
I thought the staircase was reference to the battlefield stairway to heaven easter egg
Long time fan, keep up the great work bro
That gears Easter Egg feels like something to do with The Suffering.
Generation Zero is a stairway to heaven. They have plenty of Easter eggs in that game far east of the map there is a spooky island. You've probably covered that before already.
Most easter eggs arent specifically thought out unless its a call back or effects lore. Usually they are made as a cheeky little signature, for testing features or so assets arent wasted. If i had to guess id probably say the stairs were left in by accident and when someone saw them they added the explosion as a joke to mess with whoever left them. The reason so many of the same easter eggs keep popping up in games is because they tend to be quick things people can do to have a break or its something they already made like during the interview (red balloons for example) thats why whenever i see the annoyingly repetitive ones i actually kinda like it because it can be something nice for new hires. The way easter eggs are so personal to certain devs is also why when you ask other devs about a specific one they often genuinely dont know what eggs people mean or there isnt a crazy deep meaning behind them.
the rat and the sound of pain and thunder in Gears of War, that could be references to the book and movie The Green Mile, where a rat escape a isolation cell like magic and a prisonner on the electric chair is sadly fried due to a malfunction. no idea for the red crosses and the knife, maybe other prison movies ?
The stairs could be a reference to that battlefield Easter egg that had invisible platforms
I wonder if the mouse was from green mile mr jangles or jingles
I remember spending a stupid amount of time trying to solve that Gears of War 3 easter egg, but got nowhere. I and others boiled it down to an unfinished easter egg, but seeing as another easter egg from the same game was only solved a few years ago maybe there is more to it…
So the stairs in the woods could be a reference to the stairway to heaven and being thrown back is you being rejected stretch for sure but better then nothing
Banger video
thx for the stair tip XD
The staircase in the woods is a reference to a series of stories written by a redditer called "Searchandrescuewoods" 9 years ago that became a creepy pasta.
2:02 i think its supposed to activate something after you blow it up, and it's perfectly aligned for the button it needs to hit.. somewhere on the map- The vault on ocean floor ? Who knows, Even those acid missions off your head with the aliens 👽 maybe ?? 🤔 but i always felt like its to blow a certain small something or activate a button
What if the phone number for gta5 was meant to blow something up above you
the stairs in the wood is just a visual representation what we have in Pittsburgh PA....a lot of random stairs in the middle of some random woods
The Easter egg of Noita. like, damn eyes and ciphers.
Always avoid stairs in the middle of the woods that lead to nowhere in real life
2:59 its Stairway To Heaven 😂
Or maybe Stairway to Hell 😁
1 - It does say "EMP" not "DMP". Typically when you are giving someone a word to spell on their phone, the letter can be any of the three on that particular number. This isn't true in reverse though such as typing a word using old texting methods, where you have to type the number multiple times to switch it to a different letter. That wouldn't work though when trying to type in numbers for calling however, since you'd have no way to tell whether two numbers in a row were say "DD" or "E".
2 - My theory is that it's meant as a "stairway to heaven" sort of thing, and you're not worthy so you get rejected with a blast of light.
3 - My guess is either it's random for the sake of random, or the faces of the guys that show up match up to members of the dev team and they're congratulating you for finding an obscure easter egg. If that's the case, the underwear is just because it's funnier than showing up fully clothed.
4 - No idea on this one beyond it either being an unsolved Easter Egg that has more to it, or it being one they forgot to implement part of. My guess is probably the first of those two, and it's just so specific or random no one's tried it yet, and it probably has to be done in a certain order.
5 - Yea, most likely just a Easter Egg just for the fun of it, given how much people like zombies.
MW2 was meant to have a zombie mode, they scrapped it. does this easter egg exist in the oringal?
The stairs are maybe the stairway to heaven
The stairs in the woods is a creepypasta reference
The staircase in the woods could also be related to the staircase in the woods here in scotland we have an actual staircase in the middle of nowhere
what if the GOW3 egg requires you to push the ball to all of the X marked locations before kicking it under the fence?
Hope you have a good day
D and E are on the same number on a phone tho?
I can dig this
Stairs in the woods is a reference to IRL stairs in the woods thing
Why did the title of this video change overnight?
i think the zombie in mw 2 remaster is a hint for the newest mw 3 which got a zombie mode
3:00 its my career ladder
That comment about generation zero having a big map with not a lot to do is true of 99% of open world games.
I think that phone number could be connectet to the part of the story where you blow Mark Zuccerbergs phone up on live TV.
I'm pretty sure the rat easter egg is a callback to the rat that gets squished when the boomers are introduced in Gears 1
Nah, bit obscure for that. As someone else pointed out the Green Mile Mr. Jingles reference may be on the money...but there is still likely more to it
The stairs in the woods are clearly a reference to the creepypasta that they based that one season of that Channel Zero show on.
The black phone maybe the number u call in the life invader mission 🤔
The rat easter egg in gears 3 could be a reference to gears 1 when you are first introduced to the boomers, when that scene plays you see the boomers step on the rat then they laugh, just a thought but that's what came to my mind.
Yeah your right ✅️ and the screaming in the door represents the first mission in gears 1 or the comics.
I am probably wrong, but I thought the stairs in the forest were a reference to stairway to heaven. You walk up it and you die. Too simple?
What if the devs put deliberately vague easter eggs into their games to mess with youtubers who make videos showcasing them?
I think the phone was supposed to explode in player's had, but the explosion's origin wasn't set properly.
I think the gta one is a placeholder for the cheat items to spawn
The first gta one is probably a leftover interaction from the story mission when the steve jobs/tim cook guy is assassinated.
actually if it think about it more that even makes more sense because the explosion happens above the player head which corroborates with the theory as the npc actor in the story mission is on a stage at the time.
