Regarding your septic tank, it's important to clean it out every 3-5 years, depending on your family size. Especially with 3 boys! I'd build a hidden trap door you can remove on your deck so you have access to the tank lid and don't have to move that entire deck section.
Your yard work is looking good. Huge change from when you moved there in February.

Watering your plants less encourages them to grow deeper roots looking for water. Those deeper roots help plants survive a drought. Hanging plants don’t have room for deep roots so need more water.

Hi Rae. Just wanted you to know you aren't the only one who uses fake flowers. The deers kept eating all my flowers so I started using silk flowers outside. I got so many compliments about them that I started bragging how they were disease resistant and drought resistant and had a long blooming season. Hated lying to my friends but it was fun! 😉

The plant you crushed and the deep purple one in front are called coleus...if you pinch off the very tiny leaves in the middle of the big leaves the plant will bush out more!!

You might have to make an access hatch, like I have to go down to my basement. Yours could flip up to give you access, and drop down onto supported frame… but I’m you’ll have a much better design than mine.
I know many posters are saying those flowers in the smaller pot are impatiens, but they are called vinca. I plant them every year in front of my house next to the porch in full sun.
Agree they’re Vinca (some people know them as periwinkle)definitely heat tolerant, they’re colorful in the summer temps with a variety of colors all season possibly into the next season if they are covered in the freezing weather
The one plant is Man da villa (Mandavilla trellis)
They come in some varieties of reds and a yellow
Cannas come in many different colors both drawf and full size generally in the back of your garden or planted in a pot with small flowers around the edges and are very hardy, they will grow all season
they do need to be fertilized regularly for them to thrive
I strongly suggest that you get Miracle Grow in liquid form so that you can water all your plants with it…
I generally hook a sprayer to the hose and water the entire plant or shrub every few weeks during growing season especially with your new plants, shrubs and trees so they can develop a good root system..
You will be amazed at how well the plants grow and thrive even during the summer heat with the miracle grow

An idea, we used river rock instead of mulch so it would not attract insects and does not have to be replaced constantly. We laid the river rock on a weed mat layer. It has been down 19 years and is the best decision we made in our landscape. It is a little more up front but a lot cheaper in the long run as well as less labor demanding. Just an FYI...

The red creeping plant is a Mandavilla. Good job Chad! lol Rae you will love that plant. It is considered tropical but is forgiving if not watered often. Great in the wind and loves the sun and even part shade. I have them as hanging baskets on my porch and put them back every spring. FYI I believe the other pot of pink flowers are impatience. But you will grow to love the Mandavillas.
I love the American flags that Allegiance sent to you. They look good mounted where they are. I also like the look of the pea gravel and the pavers. The plant that got squished by the dropped windmill blades looks like a Coleus to me. In the back by the pool, the plant next to the Canna lily, the red flowering one, is Mandevilla. The pot of multi-colored flowers are Impatiens. I am used to seeing Impatiens growing in shade or partial shade, but that was in Florida, so these might do well in full sun in your part of NE Oklahoma. There is a species called Sun-patiens that are meant for full sun. Things are really looking good around your place. The floating deck in the back above the septic tank sounds like a good idea to me. Well done, Rae and Chad for all your hard work. It's really coming together!
In 2007 we moved from the city to a new manufactured home and our first experience with a septic system. Before we moved in we had a 10x 20 ' deck built out the backside of it...then later discovered we had built just over the edge of our septic system. My huband cut out 'lids' on our deck and the two septic tanks and also the pump tank are accessible for the county inspection which is required here every 3 years. Originally my husband screwed the lids down, thinking it would be easy to open them up every 3 years, but the screws rusted. We discovered that none of the 'lids' wiggle or tip when stepped on, so we just leave them available. If you make access lids, make sure they are directly above all the tanks and would not be at an angle.

The house looks awesome. Pressure washing the wood was the best idea. It really improved the outside. The flower beds & walkway looks clean & neat.

That side of peagravel looks super nice! I'm with Rae, I'd do big planters in a grouping against the wall.. everything looks so awesome tho... way to go! I'd build a hatch, just put one of those handles that go flush and just pull the hatch🤷♀️

I think the “floating” deck is fabulous; that’s how I built be small deck and stairs of the garage door. This way it could be moved whenever needed

Uncover the septic area and leave access in your floating deck as Septic’s should be pumped out every 2-3 years ❤ They can go longer but for top performance that’s what’s recommended

Hostess are extremely hardy to damage and weather. Mine flowered in there second year and in the 13 years before I sold the property I split them four times, giving me enough to line the 1/4 mile driveway on both sides…
Hostas are very sturdy plants and they propagate ! Love them and you don’t need to water a lot!

Looks really good. I am crazy about the plants and flowers. I bought a beautiful big made in America flag and my husband would not put it up so I gave the flag to my church. Most of my Uncles and brothers fought in wars. I had a grandfather who fought in the Civil War and I found his grave.and another grandfather who fought in WW1 and played in the Army Band. My cousin fought and died during the Normandy DDay push on the Germans. I love our service men and women. Just sharing my I love America family. 😁❤❤❤🙏Pray for America.

The side bed is fine. You are correct, Rae, you watered too much. They will dry up, don't worry. Our Septic is outside our back door, it is in the way when you want to go out into the yard. Where did Pool Duck get to? Did he fly away in the storm?

The plants look like impatiens and if in the sun will need to be watered in late afternoon after out of sun if they droop. If in shade, not so much but can droop when in need of water.

@angelpony1657 Pompass Grass might look alright, but it is heck to take care of. One thing you don't do is rub your fingers up and down the leaves bare handed. It will cut the tar out of your fingers and hands.

A little hint for your plants or trees that are planted in the buckets. Simply drill a few holes in the bottom of the bucket for any excess water to escape by and you won't have to worry about drowning your plants.

Here's a tip from a horticulturist DON'T USE WOOD MUCH around the house! It'll draw more bugs and critters in! Use the pea gravel you'll like it much better and it doesn't fade in the sun.

We built a planter box 3'x5' off of one side of our deck over the septic lid. We used 8x6 posts stacked and pegged horizontally and had a guy weld up a pair of 6 inch deep flower box inserts with handles to fit in the top. We could fill it with trays of herbs for the kitchen. But if there was a problem (we had six kids, so we knew septic problems, lol) we could remove the herb trays and our local septic guy could hoist the planter boxes up by the handles and pump out the tank in under 40 mins. We eventually just had him pump yearly and reinnoculate the tank to keep the leach field clog free. Cheap $60 bucks of preventative maintenance.😊

Once a month I put 1 gallon of Bleach in the final tank of our septic system. This helps with the smell of the water being sprayed in the front area. This is per the installers instructions
