  • In this video, I start my journey with my Porsche Macan 2015 rear subframe replacement.
After 9 years of ownership, driving in Winter conditions with a lot of salt on roads, my subframe is done. I got a slightly used 15,000 miles subframe from a 2021 Macan Base from eBay.
In this first part of the video series, I focus on preparing the new subframe and removing the old one.
Stay tune for upcoming videos, where I prepare and install all components back.

You totally sold me on that table you used. I was able to drop the subframe with a rolling jack but not as stable as the table. Also, I could not get the cardon shaft off after removing all of the bolts. I ended up dropping the cardon shaft along with the subframe, but had to support the shaft with jacks.

Yup… that table is incredible. Not only did I used it to lower and raise the subframe and exhaust, but also to bring the subframe to height level so I wasn’t working with my back bent. It is truly a back saver, for us older people….😊. On the cardan shaft, take a look at my cardan shaft removal video. Mine was frozen shut as well… there is a trick that I show there in the video that loosens it. Thanks for watching!!

Excellent video with very clear instructions! Any advice on how I can get my hands on a reliable PIWIS system? Which one do you use for diagnosis? Any links will be appreciated. Thanks!

Noticed some rust on my 2015 subframe this weekend. I wonder what the best steps are to keep it from getting bad enough to require replacement?

Yearly pressure wash, especially if you live in states or countries where it snows and road salt is used. Do the wash after snow season, and try to get it into a car wash during snow season that has undercarriage wash. Prior to snow season, treat problematic areas with rust dissolver and paint with POR15.
      Thanks for watching!

That lower shock bolt, I tried to remove mine, saw it was tightening up, so thought I’d reverse out and wait until I had an M14 tap on hand to clean up the threads. How was your bolt, just tight or did it damage the aluminium on the way out?

It was just tight. I was able to insert new bolt and torque to specs with no issues. It was a bit hard to loosen, but not as bad to take out afterwards. As you’ll see in future video, I used a torque multiplier wrench to get them back in… you can actually see the wrench in use when I loosened the CV Shaft bolt to hub.

I have to do the exact same thing. I already bought the replacement subframe from ebay. I have PASM, so I'm nervous about the air springs. I'm wondering if you can put the air springs in maintenance mode without the official Porsche tool.

You can certainly bleed the air springs with other tools like X431 or Autel.

VCDS looks like it’ll do it, not tried it but I can see the functionality on mine. Also ThinkDiag has it, again not yet used it.

Hi Santirx, have you encountered broken rear shock absorber? Thanks. My 2018 GTS's OEM warranty expired earlier this year. I have had a couple of issues in the past year from 30k to 38k. I love driving my Macan. But the tradeoff between the great driving dynamic and ownership inconvenience is pushing me to sell it🤣

Rear shock absorbers are fine. My ownership experience had been fantastic. A few minor issues… this subframe thing is the biggest thing I’ve encountered. The driving compensates for all that in my opinion, but that’s just me.

I was seriously considering buying a Macan, but as soon as I found out that 80% of its components are Audi/VW, there's no way I want to pay the additional $20K just for the Porsche badge. Thank you for your videos.
And look how shit the subframe is. It's an Audi frame. Garbage!

I can’t argue with you. True, a lot of components in the Macan are Audi, but this is true everywhere. Lamborghini has VW/Audi components, heck, even the Murciélago has Ford Fiesta side markers. The McLaren has a lot of Mercedes Benz components… etc… you name it. Even my 718 Cayman has Audi logos in many places…. What makes the Macan special is really how these components are put together to make the driving experience unlike any VW or Audi can do…. But, can’t argue with you as I said… the subframe is crap, although it lasted 9 very salty Winters…. BTW… thanks for watching and thanks for the support.
