Aw Annie, thank you for your kind words. They really do mean a lot to me (there are days when people can be a bit spiteful and your kindness always brings a smile).
I never tire of watching the boys tug the plastic over the polytunnel frame! Seeing them slide along the bars is just oddly satisfying for such an unwieldy job.
Forget the mistake Liz - what a difference a year make. That was so good to watch. Most of it I had seen previously, thank for the time it must have taken to edit all the various clips together. You should feel very proud, Mr J too!
Thank you, we're all sharing this big old earth and I'm happy to live along side them 🌼 (except for the rabbits, they can stay out of my garden and live in the hedges!)

Liz, what a stunning transformation that has started on your new property. I enjoy seeing your vision for the property come to life and to see the progress that can be made within a year. Thank you for sharing your journey with us and for allowing us to learn from your years of experience! Job well done.
I've been here 14 years and growing on 1/4 acre. I have yet to achieve, foot for foot, the kind of success you've done in one year. Simply amazing! Congratulations on all your hard work and accomplishments.
Bare in mind that playing (a better word for working) on our land is my job. I don't have children at home to care for, so no distractions - except creating videos, writing books, photographing.... LOL
Impressive! I’m so happy I learned about your channel from H.Richards ! I’m in New Jersey on the East of America and I have the same weather and soul as u do. Loving your channel!! Ty
Wow what an impressive first year! It is good to reflect on the past year to see how far you have come and how much hard work that you put into your garden. I think that you learn more about your space, problem areas, what works and what doesn't and areas that can be worked on to be improved or developed.
@@LizZorab Totally and i love it! I love end of year Dec reviews too. Anniversaries are a good indicator and motivator for progression. A mid year review is also good to get a checklist going of things to maintain or problems to address. It is also a really busy time as you are you checking to see what crops are ready to harvest. In fact, i would go as far to say that their really isn't an end of season as you can be doing stuff all year round in the garden but it is always worth taking stock of what is going on the garden. It helps with planning and getting ahead of the game.
Hello, thank you for the inspiration! I was mentioning an impressively long to do list to my husband just today. He reminded me to pace myself- adding that we have been in our property for a month. We did the arithmetic and it has been 5 weeks. Well I was so pleased, I have some tomatoes, peppers and squash in. I need to run and go put in some potatoes and beans. Again, thank you so much for your inspiration.
Amazing progress in just one year (as if it's been a year!), just shows how worth while it is filming and taking photos of your space even if it's just to personally look back on all your hard work.
Thank you! It's been so much fun (and quite a bit of effort) to get this far, but the next two or three years should make a huge difference and it will look more mature - yay!
Recently got your book Liz, and I'm half way through. Winter here in the Sub-tropics and it's a great read with a cuppa. Knowing what health challenges you've faced, your achievements are inspirational. Well done Liz. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Thank you so much for buying the book, it's much appreciated. I hope you'll enjoy the second half too. Thank you for your kind words, it has been quite tough here, several of the thyroid issues are back and I'm trying to deal with them. I know that the answer is to get as much of our own food growing as possible, so I can take care of myself in the best way I can.
@@LizZorab absolutely! Clean food is essential and so are proteins. I recently had a scare with insulin resistance and high blood pressure. My doctir put me on a zero carb diet (basically carnivore) for 6 weeks. The result was my insulin resistance was reversed and my blood pressure returned to normal. I'd been on BP meds for several years prior. Low carbs, animal proteins and lots of leafy greens are the go. I wish you great success in your health journey! And, a shout out to Mark from Self Sufficient Me for reviewing your book and bringing it to my attention. 😀
I am realising following a family tragedy two years ago that I need more space. I'm wrestling with myself about it, telling myself to be grateful for what I have, but it's not about lack of gratitude, it's as though I know what I need to heal and recover. Wow, amazing progress in just one year, congratulations! This video is truly inspirational even for smaller gardens. Beautiful journey without any doubt ❤
You both have accomplished so much! Good job, we've been working our tails off too getting settled in a new house and garden. The garden takes most of our attention, but it's because we love it and want our own food.
I'm with you on the wanting our own food! I've piled on the weight in recent months and I'm looking forward to cooking with homegrown food and not just grabbing something quick and easy from the store (as I always choose the 'bad for me' foods).
@@LizZorab Well cooking homemade food is basically what we eat but it really does take time + planning. The instant pot is a really big help! But many many nights we eat tinned coups and add other stuff to it because we just want to eat quick. Just today we got a big freezer delivered and I hope to be stocking up on homemade dinners and fruits and veg. I know you use a freezer a lot. My goal is to learn just what I need to hook up to solar to run the big freezer (it's in the barn). So no worries about the cost of electric or when our power goes out. Your energy levels amaze me and are encouraging though it's -5c here in New Zealand this morning so I won't be early in the garden. Lol I noticed the date and had a double take. In 2 or 3 years time doing a tour and showing comparison it will look to be a totally different place. Thank you. =-)
Thank you! I keep standing at the gate that goes into the veg garden and just looking at it - it's so tidy! It won't be in a year or two, but for now, I'll enjoy the neatness of it! LOL
Amazing! I love seeing what you are accomplishing and it is so cool to see the recap like this! Keep getting healthier and I so appreciate all the knowledge you share!!
That was a great way to show the year. We moved into a new farm in March and have finally got around to having enough time to start on the garden. Ours will be around the same size as yours too so it's great to see what I can do with the space.
Amazing video Liz. It's only when you look back on a year, that you realise how much work you've done there already and I love the Drone footage, it really helps to see the different areas and the land that you are working in.
Thank you. I tried to take a set of drone footage every month, but the wind in the winter meant that I couldn't get any for 3 months. Never mind, it still shows how it's changed (and not that much changed during the wet and stormy season in the garden as we were working on the house).
Thank you so much! I was surprised by how much had changed in the last year. Even the poor grass that was sparse and worn out has found a new lease of life and is looking lush and healthy!
How quick that year has gone by! You have achieved so much and its been really enjoyable to be able to follow your journey. Here's to your next exciting year.
Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to the food forest maturing, the veg garden settling into the surroundings and to creating a cut flower garden with prairie style planting. And of course, I'll share it all along the way.
Gosh Liz, you have both achieved so much in one year! We have also been in our new suburban lock, although in the country a year, and have made some progress, but I am in awe of your achievements! Well done!
We moved a few months before you to a previously horsey 7 acres in North Devon 😁 Our potential wildlife 'pests' are deer rather than rabbits and we've also had a fence installed to keep them out of the veg plot, forest garden and copse 👍
Oh Ruth, you have my sympathies. Deer fencing is a whole other expense in comparison to rabbit fencing, I really feel for you. Deer are absolutely beautiful to watch in the wild, but when eating your carefully planted garden - not so much!
Another superb video. Your content and presentation are worthy of mainstream TV (Not that we watch it !) You have been and continue to be an inspiration to me, thank you for your instruction - it's informative, enjoyable and motivational.
I really love your videos, they are inspiring for my *hopeful* homestead in the future, and also so helpful for growing in my small garden space! Thank you for sharing your journey with us all
@Liz your placr is so beautiful. I wish I knew how to grow FOOD as well as you, & has the ability to get the things I really NEED, like a good fence. You should see what I have done to help keep the animals out the garden. I thinkin maybe trying to grow to much in a small space, but I want loads of food. 😆 I want so much I have to sell it & give it AWAY... #Seeds2feed A multitude
Has it been a year already? You've done so much congratulations. Just a bit envious as we're still looking for something in our price range......all the best Nige
I do plan to do veg boxes again, not this year and possibly not next year, but after that - yes. I'm also looking at selling cut flowers, but I'm conscious that there are only so many hours in a day 😂
Thank you. Sometimes compilation videos can be a bit 'clunky' and I'm aware that in some places the music clashes dreadfully, but it was the best I could do in the time I had (a video like this takes around 12-15 hours to edit) and I was starting to go crossed-eyed in front of the computer yesterday!
Hi Katrina, here's a link. mulchorganic.co.uk/collections/biodegradable-heavyweight-film If you decide to buy, please send them a message and let them know you found them via my videos. It's a very lovely family firm and they'll be glad to know where you heard about them.
Thanks you for the tip about where to purchase a growing arch! Now I have a problem - I have seen these arched with espaliered fruit trees on, laburnum (beautiful), roses and a myriad of other ornamentals. I would love to know what you are growing on yours. Have you positioned it to gain full sun cover, or as a walkway? Thanks, and subscribed!
Hi, it's positioned so that we can walk north to south, but more than anything, it is where it is to frame the view and give a focal point from the bottom of the field. The arches have a pair of apples at the top end to grow over and form a living arch and then down the sides are climbing roses. In the beds on each side are bush roses and bulbs to add colour during the spring and early summer before the roses start flowering. At the lower end of the arch tunnel I've put a clematis on each side to create a living frame at the lower end.
Thanks so much for that prompt reply Liz! I currently have two allotments and live in Chepstow, but in the next three years we plan to do the same as you, and start a modest smallholding. So in slow time I am researching a diverse range of subjects. This summer has highlighted the importance of rainwater storage. Was interested to see you sorting drainage, little knowing we were about to suffer the driest summer for decades! Really enjoyed your video. I’ve watched your videos for a couple of years, and recently enjoyed your collaboration with Huw. Going to enjoy both your garden and arch as they develop! Thanks again, all the best, Martin.
Hi Liz, I'm often amazed how well you have planned everything and how much progress you have made. Very inspiring. What are you using in your raised beds, is it homemade compost or something else? If you didn't have your own compost, eg you were waiting, what would you use in the meantime?
It's not homemade compost yet. I had one half filled compost bin that I used in a small corner of one bed. I'm using a peat free compost that I've bought in. I've also used a little top soil from where we had the water channels dug out and some manure from the giant heap that was here when we moved in. I have tons of used duck bedding to put into compost heaps, but have neither the mental or physical energy to do much about it!

Thank you so much! It's a sloping site and quite often very windy, but it's generally quiet and peaceful here and that's what I love about it.
So lovely to see your garden growing up.
Hi from Norway 🇳🇴
It looks so amazing :D
You have both worked so hard
Really inspirational!
Thank you so much, it's much appreciated.
Incredible. Good job!
Thank you! Cheers!
You have been working hard. It looks amazing already.
Just really wonderful and inspiring.
Thank you so much! I was surprised by how much had changed in the last year. Even the poor grass that was sparse and worn out has found a new lease of life and is looking lush and healthy!
What a year
Fabulous. Vicarious experience for me. So satisfying. Such hard work. Although your lovely November section says November 2022. Should be 2021.
It's too late to change the wording now... I'm sure you'll forgive me for the error.
@@LizZorab of course. Such a lovely vid. Really wonderful to see your progress
This is amazing. So much accomplished in just one year. Such inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful place again. Best wishes.
Well done!
Thank you, it's been a lot of effort, but even more than that, it's been a lot of fun!
You are making so much progress and it looks wonderful! All your hard work is paying off! Blessings, TeresaSue
Thank you so much!
I find even old rickety pallets exciting!!
One word...awesome !
Aw, thank you!
❤️I love this!
Another superb video. Your content and presentation are worthy of mainstream TV (Not that we watch it !) You have been and continue to be an inspiration to me, thank you for your instruction - it's informative, enjoyable and motivational.
Wow, thank you!
I really love your videos, they are inspiring for my *hopeful* homestead in the future, and also so helpful for growing in my small garden space! Thank you for sharing your journey with us all
Magnificent! A grand end to my day.
I want so much I have to sell it & give it AWAY... #Seeds2feed A multitude
Thank you so much!
Has it been a year already? You've done so much congratulations. Just a bit envious as we're still looking for something in our price range......all the best Nige
Love the new homestead ❤ God bless you more 😊
Thank you! You too!
Amazing work 👏 Are you planning on doing veg boxes or a different business endeavor like education? such a beautiful space 💚
I do plan to do veg boxes again, not this year and possibly not next year, but after that - yes. I'm also looking at selling cut flowers, but I'm conscious that there are only so many hours in a day 😂
@@LizZorab That is fantastic, good on you 💚💚💚
I really enjoyed the format of this video.❤️
Thank you. Sometimes compilation videos can be a bit 'clunky' and I'm aware that in some places the music clashes dreadfully, but it was the best I could do in the time I had (a video like this takes around 12-15 hours to edit) and I was starting to go crossed-eyed in front of the computer yesterday!
Absolutely wonderful Liz, welcoming and engaging as always, thank you for allowing us in and for sharing your journey with us
Wow; you sure had a productive first year!
What’s under your raised bed? What’s the cloth called?
Your videos are very enlightening..New subscriber from Kenya 🇰🇪
Thanks for subbing!
@@LizZorab you're welcome 🙏
Wow, Liz !!! You must be so proud of yourself !!! Well done !!!!
Good good work indeed
Thank you! Cheers!
I loved your book really much - but I love your videos even more :) So great!
Glad you like them!
Congratulations 🎊🎈🎉
Liz I don't think we have reached November 2022 yet.
Oops! Ah well, mistakes just show that a human made the video 😂
@@LizZorab the thing is I had to really make sure it hadn't come and gone without me realising it. Lol. Great video Liz . You are amazing
@@margaretsofocleous8137 Liz lives in the future! :-D She is guiding us xx

Congratulations! So much progress and it looks great! Just want to ask what was the base we saw on your raised beds? Was that biodegradable?
Yes, that's the heavy weight corn starch roll from Mulch Organic.
@@LizZorabthank you, it looks like great quality. We just used cardboard but this looks like it would compost more rapidly.
Loved seeing the transformation. What is the weed barrier that you said was not made of plastic? I don't see it in your Amazon links.
Hi Katrina, here's a link. mulchorganic.co.uk/collections/biodegradable-heavyweight-film If you decide to buy, please send them a message and let them know you found them via my videos. It's a very lovely family firm and they'll be glad to know where you heard about them.
I should love to know where those corrugated, rounded sided, raised beds come from please?!! Many thanks x
good video
Thank you Caroline. I hope you are well and enjoying this lovely weather.
Mmmmmm Rabbit stew!
WoW
Thank you Tony!
@@LizZorab thanks Liz, I'm with you on the energy front!! Lol!
Roasted rabbit!
