- These commercials aired on NBC on January 31st, 1986
1. Wisk
2. Snuggle Fabric Softener (Hey, it's the bear show!)
3. TV Spot for "Youngblood" (0:52 ugh this voiceover is so forced and awkward)
4. "Miami Vice" Commercial Bumper
5. Volkswagen GTI
6. TV Spot for "F/X" (IMO this is one of the most underrated action movies of the 80's. I realize it was successful at the time and spawned a sequel and TV series, but it seems like it's rarely discussed these days)
7. Tyson Chick'n Chunks (Describing your meat as "chunks" is not how you get me to try your product)
8. Dristan (Caffeine is found in many pain relievers because it helps rush it into the bloodstream. Unless you're allergic or sensitive to it, it's stupid to complain about it)
9. Jeep Cherokee
10. TV Spot for "Power"
11. "Miami Vice" Commercial Bumper
12. Promo for "The Cosby Show" and "Amazing Stories" (Mark Hamill meets Gimli the dwarf?)
13. WESH News Center 2 Update (These aired only three days after the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger on January 28th, which killed all seven astronauts aboard. This is also from an Orlando affiliate only around 50 miles away from the launch site at Cape Canaveral...so the Challenger story was also a local one)
14. McDonald's
15. Suzuki Samurai (Notable for being featured in a 1988 review in Consumer Reports magazine where they deemed the Samurai to be "not acceptable" and stated that it "easily rolls over in turns". Suzuki later sued Consumers Union, the parent company of Consumer Reports, and cited this article for poor sales of the Samurai in the United States: en.wikipedia.o...)
16. Promo for "Stolen Dreams" on WESH News Center 2
17. "Miami Vice" Commercial Bumper
18. Benylin DME
19. Lubriderm Lotion
20. TV Spot for "F/X" (6:41 Mason Adams is awesome in this...his character almost makes you forget that he's the Smuckers guy)
21. Chili Cheese Fritos ("Grease" was definitely missing a scene where the T Birds all eat a bag of chili cheese corn chips together)
22. Colgate (Unfortunately the experimental "all toothpaste, all the time" format of this radio station never caught on with listeners)
23. Promo for Taylor Vs. Blake on "NBC Sportsworld"
24. AMC Jeep Renault
25. Promo for "Peter The Great" (Won the Emmy for Best Miniseries)
26. "Miami Vice" End Credits - Развлечения
I will definitely never forget that Challenger day. I was at the DMV getting my license test when we heard about it.
Seeing the thumbnail of the McDonald's McDLT is perfect for this volume. It's good to know that Chili Cheese Fritos were introduced in 1986, & they're still being made to this day. I love Chili Cheese Fritos.
1:06 - “Hit the Road Jack” experienced a huge surge in popularity at this time, as I remember it being used in multiple ads around this time from KFC to movie advertising.
Youngblood-"..Maybe hearing your voice,that's what!"
F/X-loved this film..one of it's exec.producers was Dodi Fayed, boyfriend of the late Princess Diana(R.I.P to both)
Tyson Chick'n Chunks-shh..theyre not chicken...
Power-not a prequel to the Curtis "50 Cent"Jackson series
Amazing Stories-Marvel/Disney What If-Luke Skywalker crossed over to Middle Earth
Stolen Dreams-sounds like a movie about a lottery scam
Chili Cheese Fritos-wouldve got a bowl of that chili to go,for dipping those chips into it
Miami Vice-these end credits were from one of my favorite episodes,"Little Miss Dangerous"..ending stuck with me for a while
I Loved Amazing Stories!
9:47 - Siskel and Ebert were always great on talk show appearances. I definitely would have stayed up for that.
Wisk- Impressive Pixel artwork of the Wisk bottle at 0:14.
WESH News Center 2 Update- I find it funny how they kept the blooper of the newscaster in at 5:13. It certainly made things interesting, I think.
Those sorts of local news updates are done live. If you make a mistake on air there is no take 2.
I wish I saw these in 1986 at the age of 12! I love these!
I see the Suzuki Samurai, and I think of Homer Simpson's perfect car that ran his half-brother Herb into bankrupcy.
Yeah I agree about 0:52, they could have also said "Watch Out For Snakes!" (as that from MST3K was what that reminded me of)
So Mason Adams said $30,000 and a lifetime supply of Smuckers! Sold! LOL
0:52 - I want to personally meet the person on the ad campaign who approved this voice over, so I can personally say I met the most awkward person imaginable…
My fleeting memories of the 80s is that yuppies got really scared about caffeine.
I remember when Reagan said those words. You couldn't help but choke up. 😢
3:39 - Richard Gere with a mustache looks wrong to me…
You keep comin' up with some great ads definitely!
I guess it's the modern take but "Chick'n Chunks" make it sound like imitation chicken, even though they say it's 100% chicken.
The glasses guy in the Wisk commercial would later be one of the hosts in 321 contact.
What great marketing exec came up with the name "chicken chunks"?
I ate a lot of those chikin chunks!
