"I want you to be the extinguisher of that spark, not kindling" - 1 hour later - "So we've detected a ship in our AO. We've sent them the standard warning, and while we were still talking, a barrage of missiles before they had any chance to respond or react".
imagine: contact... fire missile.... missile away .... captain we got identification of the ship, it is a civilian ship... the ship exploding... captain : shit system malfunction right guy...😅
If you think that's crazy, perhaps hard to believe even, I can point to the Kamchatka of the 2nd Russian Pacific Squadron, which, on the fleet's bizarre journey from the Black Sea to Japanese controlled waters, almost started a war with Germany, Britain and France, by mistaking fishing trawlers for Japanese torpedo boats and firing hundreds of shells at them without any questions asked - missing every single shot.
@@z0ck3r yeah, a trigger happy green commander deciding to shoot a barrage of missiles at a unknown radar track while sending the “identify yourself” message having not waited for a response would send a bad message, even with the knowledge that said unknown track was actually a pirate ship. Actually, does Reynard (the MC) have overall command of the escort force? As the briefing mentions that the Halcyon is commanded by a “CMDR Tara Holt”, so another option would be CMDR Holt being trigger happy and opening fire without orders or consulting Renard.
Bro the balls on those merchantmen to charge straight down AsteroidMcAmbushFace: “Captain! The Carnov is firing missiles.” “Not my problem, full ahead.”
Tactics: Ouch, this young captain is in for a short, possibly terminal and criminal, career if he's shooting before confirming the sensor traces he's seeing are actually hostile - especially in time of peace. Rules of Engagement need to be better understood and followed. 'Shoot first and ask questions later' is a good way to quickly earn a general court martial and drummed out of the fleet in addition to any civil or criminal charges. This was a bit chaotic due to what was going on and how quickly, however I think you might have been able to save the freighter if you'd played your PD ships at the very least more aggressively and moved to keep them between the attacking ship and the freighters - best to have them interposed between the helpless freighters and the threat vector, ideally at a distance of the full diameter of the corvette's PD range, not hugging them at just the radius to maximize the PD engagement time. Unclear if you were able to control the freighters but their best bet would have been to turn away from the threat once detected. I might have tried to form 2 groups myself once the threat materialized - Group 1, the missile frigate holding back near the convoy. Group 2 the PD ships escorting the gun frigate, using group 2 to aggressively engage the incoming enemies ahead of the convoy, the missile ship providing supporting fire once enemy PD was suppressed and targeting with the spotlight... or possibly as one larger group in formation. There seemed to be enough time to engage and possibly eliminate or cripple each enemy group in the pincer movement individually - poor coordination on their part. Editorially, I do enjoy a good campaign/story rather than just random meeting engagements or capture the flag games that the standard game currently employs. Keep up the good work.
Well done captain, shame about the transport ship but she can be salvaged at least. While you managed to deal with these small ambush ships a pair of raines and sprinters might be a bit lacking in firepower for more than light escort duty. If there is some sort of base near-by your going to need some firepower, maybe we can spare you Rail Destroyer to take down any hidden nests. So much red tape, hopefully we can get more ships out there. Hehe.. Sorry bit of fun light RP. Search of the disabled ships, maybe some repairs on the disabled cargo ship to get it back up. Interrogation of the pirate crew for more intel. And some pirate hunting. Maybe start off with current ships repaired and rearmed. Have a CL and a DD burning to your location once the pirate base is found. So you have a bit of a time delay on your supporting captain. Maybe the captain of the support fleet will go down with his ship in the CL and you'll just have to take command of the DD. Whoooo knooooows.
So I rewatched. ANS seems to be under a lot of pressure. They give command of a fleet to a guy fresh out of the Academy. So my guess would be they don't really have people to spare but they do have ships. I would guess some reactivated reserve ships. Otherwise I would guess they should have enough people for command staff. Wars are won or lost depending on the supply line. At the same time they want to appear strong and capable... They just got slapped with the loss of a transport. So I think the next thing to happen would be a decisive strike against the pirates. Possibly with more ships (if they are reactivating reserves new ships could become available). So search for their base of operations if pirates have something like that or they can possibly pull that information from the destroyed ships. But regardless I would expect a coordinated attack on pirates all over because it makes ANS look strong and discourages any others from attacking ANS ships. Politically I could see the attack being used to put the OSP in a bad light, make people more likely to not protest against a war if it should come to one. I could even see the attack being orchestrated by a third party that would profit from a war between OSP and ANS. (I think there is some interesting story potential here)
8:04 iirc the front is the least safe space in a convoy. they are the biigest target because if they get disabled the rest of the convoy gets stuck behind them although that applies less so in a 3d space i suppose
Yeah, I know convoy attacks often hit the front and back vehicles simultaneously-ish so everyone else gets stuck between the dead ends and makes a mess of things. Applies a lot less if your target isn't restricted to a road though
I remember stories from vets coming back from the intervention in Việt Nam saying that the safest place for officers was not at the vanguard or the back
In this case putting your ships with good radar to the front/back would probably make sense. Would Probably also make sense to spread them out above and below so the radar can cover more angles around asteroids.
"Lt Cmdr Alexi Renard, While the loss of the civilian freighter was unfortunate, the results of the skirmish was a major victory in your and the Alliance's favor. With the sensor and video feeds obtained of the battle, Naval Intelligence has determined the pirate group who attacked you are effectively neutralized. Leadership has seen fit to award you a commendation for your success. We expect similar results or greater on your next mission and beyond. - ANS Command" "Alexi, I saw your name on the report about B23-14. Glad you made it out of that scrap okay, but then again, that's why you got the fast track to command and I'm scanning reports here at NavInt. Anyways, that pirate group you fought off? Turns out they weren't just there by chance. Salvaging the wrecks we found evidence they were paid to ambush your convoy by the OSP. Things are starting to get busy around the office, so keep your wits about you. This 'standoff' might not be cold much longer... - Nika"
Maybe you can say that prisoner from the escape pod reviled the pirate base but when you arvived here you find an osp anbush to defend against on a unrelated note good video i quite like your mission briefing at the start.
Nice battle I'd say a simple, but important, follow up to this mission would be a combat patrol to flush out the pirate operating in the region, but it does not go completly has plan, the estimate were off, were intel was expecting a disorganise rabble, from the interrogations of the previous engagement, but again, it was a fairly discipline irregular combat force with outdated équipements but still very dangerous and more numerous then expected. I know this may not happen but it would be a fairly believable scénario has a good follow up to the escort mission, a simple combat mission with a twist that open options for more plot elements to be added following said mission 2... Again i don't expect my suggestions to make it but this is how i see things going following mission 1
Adding neutral merchant ships would add to the immersion a lot. I dont think the new commander would be reprimanded. In ww2 convoy escort was extremely difficult and it was expected to loose ships to raiding. Maybe next mission is taking a small task force and hunting down the pirates? Really cool custom series keep it going!
I really like the inclusion of modded ships here. It’d be cool to see ships from PRISM or NY (SYS) show up, probably just the smaller ones though. Perhaps NY Lanterns or Dogfish’s? As they (especially the dogfish) are known as anti piracy ships. Prism and NY showing up would also make sense as they are ship building companies/factions who aren’t aligned with a particular nation. Regarding that early missile strike, I’d of waited until target ID. In these kinds of situations you need to know what your shooting at. Especially since ships currently can’t be marked as neutral/civilian. Some ideas for including PRISM and/or NY. Perhaps the OSP decides to purchase a few Eulers or even Noethers to provide advanced fleet support (usually PD) to fleets that couldn’t be assigned a Ocello? Or a shipping company having bought (or contracted as mercenaries) one or two Dogfishs to escorts due to their reputation as being highly effective against pirates.
Maybe the next mission should involve some sort of recovery or defense mission for the Flesh and Vigil? The crew seemed to mostly evac safely, so maybe the fleet restored it to enough functionality to haul it to a nearby station for repairs, but then the station gets attacked by pirates attempting vengenance for their fallen comrades.
Given the success of the convoy in driving off the pirates, I'd imagine the budget-minded members of the ANS would still consider this a minor problem. There's clearly a pirate base around somewhere though, those fighters looked pretty short-range. Maybe send a small task force to root out the pirates and capture their base. Seems like this probably doesn't rate a real capital ship, so maybe a CL and some escorts or something so it looks like the ANS is doing something. Possibly also a tug or two, or another cargo ship, to try and salvage whatever's left of the lost cargo ship if it hasn't been picked over by the pirates already
And someone else mentioned this I think, but I'm pretty sure some lifeboats got out from the dead pirate ships. Perhaps they've got something interesting to say
So 3 minutes in. I love it. I love the idea. I love the story is done so far. Now 4 minutes in... I now paused the video (have to get back with my mind fully on the story) xD I want something like this in the game. I love the execution so far. Constructive Criticism: - Music at the beginning is a bit to loud, makes you hard to understand. I think something like 10% quieter music would be nice. So finished the video. But yea thinking and low blood sugar isn't a good combo. So I will be rewatching it and comment what I think could happen next.
Hmmm, one of the escorted merchants is a _Converted Merchantman_ class. And it has cargo containers just like the ones the OSP use as ordnance delivery systems. Well I'm sure nothing will come of this! What would the Alliance do next? Well, I imagine they'd send a force for *maximum* pirate suppression. I'm talking Axfords, I'm talking Solomons, get every ship that isn't tied down garrisoning important systems and deterring other neighbors over to Kribensis. Show the OSP just what they'd be up against if they actually tried anything, if they dared to do more than posture. Show them and any pirates left the full military might of the Alliance Navy! Oh... and check to see if any former Alliance personnel that have sided with the rebels have family still in Alliance-controlled space. They ought to be made to know that their friends and loved ones are being kept perfectly safe. For now.
Great idea to get full narrative. Maybe you should even put a little bit of a roleplay during the battle? :P I know It would be extremely hard to do. GJ Phrosphor!
Cargo ship was salvaged and all crew survived. Some cargo was damaged but enough survived to be considered a success A full investigation must be launched regarding these pirates. They had weaponry civilians should not have had access to, someone has to be funding them or otherwise granting them stolen Alliance equipment
Heaps fun to take part in this. as for direction some of those pirates still remain and with crew to question perhaps the alliance can find their hideout and assault it.

In what universe is the first place in a convoy the safeest? You shoot teh first and last to box in everything in the middle. Any thing i the middle has to maunver to get around nr1 and is so out of position and so forth.

Love watching these

It's still happening! Sorry for the delay!
is this a mod campaign like the osp one or this all your work ?
How can I play this campaign
Have you played Delta V?
I have indeed, just a little. I kind of want to do a chill 'Whisky and Delta V' stream at some point.
Where did you find the map for nebulous fleet command?
And the pirate ships!?
