I shoot 9mm, I'm a smaller dude at 5'6. that is impressive damage, the 357. I would be curious to see accuracy test on a moving target, would say 3 rounds hit from a 9mm be more damage than a single 357? I'm not a 9mm fan boy I grew up on 357, but now that I'm married, I want my fiance to be able to handle the firearms I keep around.

I love the .357SIG. That stretch cavity is NUTS. I read comments from Lucky Gunner when he was dismissing the .357SIG when he claimed that a temporary wound cavity didn't mean much and that 9mm was equivalent to .357SIG. My question then is the same as now. I want someone to explain to me how all of that energy (that is evident from that stretch cavity) is not that big of a deal. You can't convince me that internal organs being pushed 3 inches by that kind of pressure is not that big of a deal. Results like this are why I carry a SIG P-229 in .357SIG every day.

    • @Lexicologist1971
      @Lexicologist1971 Год назад +7

That is what I was thinking when I saw that presentation. It carried nearly double the energy. It doesn't do the same amount of damage. Yes, some tissue is tough. Some is very delicate. I carry an H&K P2000. The same model in 9mm only carries one more round. I'll stick with 357 Sig.

I love the P229 so much, I have a factory new unfired P229 Enhanced Elite 357 Sig in my collection. I’ll probably die of old age before I get the chance to carry it. The 357 Sig just gives me a tremendous amount of confidence to stop any threat effectively. My 357 Sig carry ammo of choice is primarily Underwood 125 grain and secondary, Federal HST 125 grain.

What people don’t realize is that flesh is elastic and can “absorb” energy. This energy threshold is broken at a minimum of about 2,000 feet per second. No handgun can send a pill going that fast. Temporary cavity size doesn’t matter as much as the flesh returns back to its original state without much damage due to elasticity. The permanent cavity from a .357 and a .38 bullet is indistinguishable.
TL;DR: All handgun rounds will perform the same on a human being due to flesh elasticity. The only measurable difference is the size of the permanent cavity.

The 9mm is still a very formidable caliber, and I'm not just saying that because I have one I have one because it's true, but the .357 Sig is one of the elite calibers as far as hand guns go, the 9 is in the very good but not great category. This is a fantastic video, like all of yours, and it is so nice to see the counterpoints to the 9mm bandwagon's maligning of the .357 Sig! Also, thanks for demonstrating how fast that factory HST is, I had no idea even the boutiques were pushing .357 Sig this fast! I handload mine, and even with a quite mild, by-the-book load, that produces only 34,000 psi, I get 125gr Gold Dots at 1,525fps and TMJ/FMJ of the same weight at 1,535fps. The extreme spread on those is only 5fps for the highest-varying load (only 3fps with the Gold Dots), and once I cracked 1,500fps, I stopped there, closer to the minimum powder charge with 800-X than the max (obvious disclaimer, work up loads properly in your gun and always follow book data), since that was all I need. It is good to know that these ATK (the parent company of Federal and Speer) projectiles can perform well even faster, though, so I may need to push it a bit!

The 357 SIG is my favorite handgun cartridge, and I cannot understand why it did not get the recognition and popularity that it deserved. Perhaps, it was due to the 40 S&W having a four year headstart in the police market. Ironically, the 40 has also entered it's twilight years. It's crazy that SIG no longer produces a gun chambered in 357, and to my knowledge, Glock is the only firearms manufacturer that does. Though Glock is my go-to 357 platform, I do enjory shooting my SIG 1911, 357, from time to time.

AZairgunner thanks for another great video yet again sir. My favorite ones on here. I find the especially interesting as my EDC is a Glock 33 gen4. I'm a big fan of the 357 Sig,but just recently shit a G33 and got one this month.
I'm a firm believer in shot placement and there is no death ray magic one shot stop and the bad guy is instantly dead bullet.i think all of the service calibers work if you do your part. However I'll also say that some work better than others,no doubt of this And as your videos show, along with lots of other data to back this up too. I think a lot of it like much else in life it comes down to feelings and justifying our choices to others and even ourselves at times.
The same applies to handgun calibers too shy is my choice as good or better than yours? And yadda yadda. Shoot it's no different with sports teams And even spouses too. Your videos do a great job of demonstrating bullet performance in ballistics gel.
As to the 9mm doing what the 357 Sig does just as well? No it doesn't sorry to those who believe otherwise, but it just isn't the case. Again all one has to do is watch your videos to see this. Is the 9mm a good round and the HST is a great bullet design? Absolutely. Did the 9mm +p perform well, yup would I carry this round? Yup I do And will I'n a kahr PM9 when my Glock 33 is to big. Would Zi want to take a 9mm +p or not? No!
Does that mean it's as good as the 357 Sig? Again no it's not. I think what a lot of people don't realize is that even out of a Glock 33 a 357 Sig still best most 9mm +p or not or 9mm +p+ even out of a fullsize gun. Besides this and the damage 357 Sig does to the gel and the numbers don't lie. KE on teget is KE on target. And as another person commented most people carrying a 9mm sub compact gun aren't carrying+p ammo. This matters too, because when the 9mm has to be pushed to +p+ levels and at that out of a fullsize gun to just begin to approach bottom of the barrel 357 Sig performance, well again sir we know where this goes. And again this is from somehow owns and has carried guns in 9mm,40,tacp etc. I'm not a basher of the 9mm in fact I like it a lot more than my 40,I like my 357 Sig more than both the 9mm or 40. But they all work. Keep up the great.videos sir. I appreciate your efforts a great deal And enjoy your work.

ammo prices are stupid anymore, I saw that sticker. I started getting it online, the retail stores and gun shops at least where I live charge nearly twice what I get the same thing for online. my local gun dealer wanted 50 for 50 fmj target rounds in 45acp. that's a big negative vector 1. I watched the last test, I was impressed with the 9mm plus p plus 124 gr I believe it was. I like 357 sig to, never shot that one. it's like a big Tokarev, and I like Tokarev pistols. what kind of gel are you using and what's the density?

I would like to add that I love 9mm, I shoot my g17 more than any pistol I have. Price of ammo . I think if .357 sig was marketed as .357 auto, or 9mm mag, or even 9mm plus, or something like that. It would have been more popular.

Unfortunately the .357 SIG was designed when the FBI an many Law enforcement agencies were moving away from the 9mm after the Miami shooting.
Together with the .40 S&W which was developt a short time before that.
So calling it "9" would have chased many people away at that time.
And because the 125 grain SIG was designed to Mimik the exact same performance of a 125 grain Magnum from a typical 4" revolver barrel but as a pistol round, They called it .357 to show everyone:
"Hey we are definitely NO 9mm bro, you can trust us. Were powerful enough for you."
So the choose that name .357
And to show the world that SIG Sauer was developing the round. The just put SIG at the end. Like Smith and Wesson did with the .40.
      Hence .357 SIG 😊

Great caliber. Just remember that practice >is greater than caliber. And it's almost impossible to find .357 sig ammo.
Hence, .357 IS more powerful but reality in daily life favors the 9mm.
Having said this, if you can find lots of range ammo for your .357 sig and actually practice. MORE POWER to you.
    😊

I agree 357 sig will destroy 9mm in a 1” barrel . 357 sig all day above 9mm and that’s with sig mildly loaded . I agree 100% 357sig is a fantastic loading . I love the comparisons that the 9mm fan boys try to come up with . It’s like comparing 10 mm to 44 Mag . Hell a 357 mag heavy load and 41 mag destroys a 10 mm .

The 9mm club is just butt hurt they can’t handle the recoil of a manly cartridge like the 357sig so they try to justify it any way they can. Anyways you did a great job as always!

There is no "done it wrong" when you are making the video. A viewer that dont like it, should just click away. A piece of me dies every time i hear "1250 fps is full power 10mm" when any projectile under 200gr is being discussed. I dont throw a tantrum, I click off and go somewhere else. Same when velocity is measured by manufacturer out of a specific barrel legnth, a channel tests with a significantly shorter barrel and says "falls short of advertised velocity", insanity to me. 😂
