Thanks for this video! I have a problem with pronunciation also for example for serbian "č" and "ć" and the russian "ч" is between this "č" and "ć" in serbian. Still hard for me, and I heard about that IPA also and I tried to apply that in this specially where to position my tongue. Now I'm learning Russian and Spanish and I'm improving my pronunciation every single day ❤️ You are an inspiration to me to strive hard more to learn new languages! 😀

People ask me what the key to speaking a language really well is and I tell them "obsession." I love the IPA and I also do a lot of shadowing, recording my voice and asking everyone to correct me. It's great to find a language partner who is also super demanding and you can both delve deeply into the nuances of the language and what is slightly off or sounds right on!

As an ABCD in Taiwan, I really related to your story about learning Italian! Every time I ask Taiwanese people to correct me, they're like "well, I can understand you, so it's fine." But I want to be native! Maybe it's just because I want to be accepted, and learning Chinese really gives me that sense of belonging. Still, it's really hard to find people who'll actually correct me and give me the feedback that I need. Few people really seem to get what I'm going for.

super interesting comments on the psychological factors when learning a language. you need to have a motivation to get the proper learning experience, you shouldn’t learn a language ‘just because’. here’s my story: I never had any interest in Germany or the germanic languages or its history or anything of the sort, but I had a german girlfriend once and suddenly german was, to me, the language of love! 😄, hence I could only be focused and in a good mood while learning the language, this made it so much easier to learn, and I can say that my german pronunciation is definitely accurate . thank you for sharing language content, it keeps us language geeks motivated 😁. salut!

Thank you for the good advice. I'm an American studying Mandarin, so sounds are difficult. Some sound the same to me (shao/xiao), while others are similar to English but different (b, d, g). Good point about listening not being enough. I've found some websites describing the right way to create "sh/xi" and other difficult sounds, and I would never have guessed by imitating.

Great video! I had no idea about Kraschen's theory Luca talks about how adults tend to have a harder time acquiring an accent because they feel like getting out of their tribe and discarding their identity. I kind of feel the exact opposite haha. I always found it fun to try to imitate the sounds of different languages and even accents within different languages and also really focus on trying to sound like a native. What you said about growing up as an Indian born and raised in France and having this yearning to be accepted really resonates with me, since I'm half-Ghanaian, half Swiss German grew up speaking French in Geneva at school but English at home and then moving to the Swiss German part of the country as an English-speaking half-African Genevois in my teens. Anyway, j je digresse, great content and continue comme ça! :D

Hi, I'm from Brazil and I can teach you more portuguese if you like; I am so impressed by your fabulous skills, besides you are so nice! Did you know that the trickiest letter in portuguese is X? Because it can have four different sounds; for example: in the word Xícara ( cup ), the letter x sounds like sh; in the word tórax, x sounds like ks; in the word exemplo, x sounds like z, and in the word exceção, the letter x sounds like ss. Nh always sounds like gn in champignon. We tend to think that portuguese is mostly pronounced according to the rules, however, at least in Brazil, we add sounds that aren't written or we change m for n at the end of words that end in m. For example: the word muito, people pronounce it as if there's a brief "n " sound between u and i, so it sounds actually " muinto ". The word também ( it means also ) is pronounced tanbéin ; just observe how brazilians don't usually close their lips at the end of words ending in m...

As for me an asian, I've been learning some of languages for number of years, particularly asian languages such as mandarin, Japanese, korean, etc. Even though they have a complicated script/writing system, I've never had any trouble at all since I was used to write it on my own language (my mother tongue has also its writing system). However when I decided to start learning european languages, I was shocked since they have a gender for every single words that I've never learned yet in advance as well as it didn't even exist in languages I learned so far, and I eventually gave up and stoped learning it. After a few weeks, I wanted to try learning arabic with my friends, and arabic also has a gender but because I was into at this language, I was keep learning without any complaint. It turned out arabic was totally helpful me in learning european languages then, So it's kinda a bridge connecting me to european languages.
Thanks for sharing your experience and tips in learning languages. I love this kind of content so much since it's motivated me...💗💗💗

it's best to study one at a time, maybe two, however; if you want to learn multiple languages at the same time, some people recommend starting with one until you already have a base, and then you go to the next one, and so on. But to start three, four or five languages from scratch at the same time will only confuse you. I personally do just that, when I feel comfortable with a language, I move to the next one. Hope it helps!

Everytime I hear a sound, a phonetic, I can do it without problems, and if I am confused with some extremely similar sounds, I hear them many times with audio and written form of their most similar word, an example:
    In Korean:
풀-Pul is the hardest like stressed P
불-Bul is a bit less harder like P
뿔-Ppul is the softest like B
And btw, learn IPA, it is made to make a prononciation easier for you
