  • Aquascape Tutorial: Tabletop Endler Riparium / Aquarium (How To: Step By Step Planted Tank Guide)
In this video I build a tabletop riparium / aquarium for my endler guppy fry. I've been experimenting with emersed plants recently and had good success so thought I would continue on with trying out different plants and seeing what does and doesn't work.

fun fact...endlers are not from asia at all and I know nothing 🤣🤣🤣😂👌 (i think the reason I thought they were is because I've seen lots of asian guppy breeding videos and just assumed...never assume people...it will make an ASS of U and ME!...oh well, not to worry)

MD, I would very much like to see how the tanks progressed through the months from when they were first set up to 2 months afterwards and then now
Just a small clip with a few of the best tanks, even though all the tanks are mad and would be very difficult to decide which ones are the best ones hahaha
I don’t usually comment but it’s insane the way your channel has grown, from the first small shed to now practically having a full house for your fish hahaha
    Keep up the great work!

I thought about the longevity of the tanks, but then I thought that this style of aquarium design doesn't require the tank to run for ever. It's the excitement of the new build, trying out new ideas and seeing how they turn out. The materials are all re-used when the tanks get taken down, so nothing is wasted. I don't think these tanks need to, or are intended to last for ever. That's what I like about these builds.

Going to try my first fish tank in 2021. You've inspired me! I'm going to try mixing it up with my plant substrate experiments. Plants i've been growing in water and Leca are going to get a new lease of life! Thank you for sharing your fab studio and knowledge.

That palm is a Dypsis lutescens, native to Madagascar. They need a slightly humid substrate. But I'm pretty sure right in the water the roots will rot and it'll die off.
But I ❤️ your experimental style where everybody can learn from. Thanx SO much !!!
And btw: You're firing out so many videos, have to take care of all the tanks, which are really nice, all the cutting work... But I'm wondering how you can manage all of it. Are you really sleeping somewhen? Hope you take care of yourself enough! ..And your family! 😉
In the former version I was mistaken, native to the northern mountains of Mexico are the Chamaedoreae species, I did correct it.

    • @jobkaashoek
      @jobkaashoek 3 года назад +7

If by guppies you mean reticulated (or fancy) guppies, you're right. They can hybridise and produce fertile offspring because their genomes are strikingly similar, meaning that they separated from each other relatively recently. Not all livebearers can hybridise and produce fertile offspring. Only species that are extremely closely related are capable of that. Most endlers sold in the pet store have some fancy guppy blood in them, and many fancy guppies, for example Panda guppies have endler blood in them. I hope I was clear in my elaboration on this topic and that you've learnt something from it!

Lovely, calming video; I just came home from a hard day's hike in the desert foothills out here in Arizona, so this was the perfect thing to watch. I have a 20-gallon tank I'm setting up (expanding a little 11" cube into bigger surroundings) and this gave me all sorts of ideas about substrates... I've been tempted to try Endlers; my guppies are mostly Platinums and Elephant Ears, but those are really pretty! Thanks for a beautiful video at the end of a good day.

Actually if I wanted to I could just set one and a colored pot on top of the filter and on the edges of the fish tank cuz they're not too heavy but not too light I did that and I looked pretty cool

MD I'm watching this some 2 years after you filmed it. Question - would you still use soil fro outside? or is that a bit risky? I know we learn and change our views on things so I'm curious to see if your view on using natural soil as substrate has changed

Love the scape, video idea, why not try and implement some black lava rock or some different elements into aquascape. I know you like the way all your tanks look and at the end of the day if your happy thats all that matters but, I thought you’d like the challenge of such

Yes please do "Lava Rock" only tank. You can mix fine crushed, coarse crushed, small / medium / big chunk of lava rocks that can give a Volcanic theme. This rock is really underused in scape :(

If you create a wall of rocks at the background near those hanging plants, the roots of those plants will start to take over that rock wall and they will go underneath those gaps between and it will look kinda natural. Hang some which are actually trees instead of ferns. Cause after some days those roots will start to get woody and broader. Actually you should do this thing in a bigger tank.

Hey MD. Love the videos. Chilled and relaxing. Think I saw a Sun-Sun canister filter in this video. Was wondering your take on them. Cheers and keep up the good work mate 👍

I’ve recently started to watch your videos and been inspired and plan on buying my own aquarium possibly either a 30L or 90L. I was wondering if there are any periods during the year when the price of aquariums/equipment are reduced or go on sale? Your videos really encourage me to wanna have a little planted tank with a pair of fish. I’ve began research on a few possibilities but I’m unsure if a 90L would be enough to house either a pair of German Rams or Dwarf Gurami or Apistos... with a bunch of beginner plants and drift wood. Thank you for your beautiful and fantastic videos 🙏🏻

I’m curious about the baking soil part, Ik for house plant when you bake soil to “sanitize” or you actually kill the microbiome and nutrients in to that the plants need. (That’s coming from multiple soil scientists) soo I’m curious how that’s not the case when put into an aquarium but is the case when used in terrariums.
