The only one I didn’t know was that mid engine AMC but all the others I did. A weird story. A buddy of mine about 30 years ago he had a next door neighbor and I think it was a Pontiac GTO. I can’t remember if it had been in the family or he bought it new or used but he had it for a long time. Well it was time to rebuild the engine, fine no problem until he was ordering engine parts for it. Nothing was matching up. It got so bad finally he and auto parts buddies contacted GM about this engine and the problem with the parts they were having. Well the guys at GM looked into the issue and it turns out that was a one of a kind engine that was not to leave the plant but some how got put in a car on the production line. GM wanted to buy the car back from him . But knowing this he wasn’t going to sell. I think GM did help with the parts issue but I never heard more about the car because my buddy ended up moving out of the neighborhood. So it’s kinda a funny story that this one of a kind big block made it out of the factory. It was from the outside look just like any other big block in that engine family but inside was the hidden secret. And all those years nobody knew it until he decided to rebuild it.

These weren’t all that rare. They probably are now. But that’s just a function of time.

You're absolutely right! The value of things can change so much over time. It's fascinating how rarity evolves!
