@@ebisliva7700 Do you remember Rhodesia? It was the bread basket of southern Africa. Exporting wheat, tobacco and corn among other crops to the world. Improper management of Zimbabwean farms, the mass printing of a noncompetitive currency and sanctions from the Global North has left Africa as a net importer of those products. Now Ukraine supplies most of the wheat to Africa. The return of African owned large commercial farms is one of many ways to raise Zimbabwe's GDP and make the currency competitive in the Forex market.
@@harmoniousfrenchman8775 That is exactly what I was saying. Remember Rhodesia thrived even during sanctions so obviously the country is conducive for creating wealth. @@ebisliva7700 Land Value Tax as opposed to property taxes. It could somehow work as suspension into inflation. Just the zimbabwe central bank should carefully consider how much gold the country has. Its OK to peg the money into gold, so the government will know when to stop printing money, which is when a lot of gold already circulated as zimbabwe gold coin.
They should make 1 gram coins for the regular folks. To make them less likely to get lost they can make the majority of the coin out of base metal with a 1 gram gold pellet embedded in the center.
Lol, what has the price of gold done in the last 10 years? Absolutely nothing, holding gold the last decade means you actually lost purchasing power due to inflation
This has 2 effects: producing a currency for the rich (savings) and easy way to leave the country for another one (no transfer money just a purse). If these rich people go to america to exchange it for dollars, for example, then the states increses its gold circulation. For the states, this is actually good 😂
Inflation cannot be controlled only by using different material in transactions. Its capabilities of the state to balance the supply to the peoples demand on different time series.
Very disappointed by the Governor of Zimbabwe Reserve Bank for failing to find a better solution than this gold coins..... the problem in Zim is political and as long as the Reserve bank is not independent to freely make monetary policy decisions and implement them then the results will be the same disastrous.... Zanu pf or the President of Zim should not have influence in how the Reserve Bank is run... 🏦 The Reserve should be independent and thats why they do not want to use other currences because they do not want to follow and implement the good monetary policies other countries have. I do not see anything coming out of any idea they can try as long as everything is controlled by Zanu Pf.... They know exactly that for an economy to move in a better direction there is need of increasing production and consumption simultaneously but is this gonna improve production or consumption? Is this gonna influence investors local or outside to start businesses in Zim and employ people.... they should not focus too much on politics and power but focus on bettering the economy and everyone will follow them.
Anx u good sir... All these people are saying good move bt in truth , this is an initiative has been designed by those "the government and their supporters" to curb any potential lose if the USD continues to decline in value. What ordinary Zimbabwean can afford to buy a gold token, especially now when a grt percentage of the country is operating on a hand to mouth manner.
for those complaining that life is hard in Zimbabwe, they don't pay mortgage, they don't have house repairs, they grow their own food, they basically own whatever they have and they complain, while in Switzerland, there is mortgage, car loan, and many other things that people take by credit. God gave Africans good weather and land, but the perennial complaint and begging is what is their problem here.
Just to note, the government is now in the works of adding denominations to the coin so that it can be traded further! 1 oz (standard) = $1800 1/2 oz = $900 1/4 oz = $450 1/10 oz = $180
Well, though the country might be experiencing severe liquidity issues, coming up with new currencies might not be the optimal solution. Focussing on local solutions for local problems would be the best approach.
You don't understand economics. Do you? Inflation is rising in Zimbabwe because there is too much printed currency notes in circulation. Gold coins have been introduced as a storage of wealth. So that people can trade Zimbabwe's currency and other foreign exchange for these gold coins. Zimbabwe govt. Is trying to withdraw all the currency notes that are currently circulating in the market. You are not allowed to use these gold coins for transactions.
So, the opposite of printing more money ? A deflationary effect by taking cash out of circulation ? Or just avoids having to print enough bills to keep up with inflation ?
At this point, their problem isn't bad policy, but no trust. No one trusts the local currency, that's why it keeps failling even though it doesn't print money to pay for loans anymore.
Printing paper money from thin air stokes inflation. Central banks have been printing paper money like confetti since 2009. Now the chickens have come home to roost. Inflation is now going to destroy our economies, savings and futures. Prepare for chaos.

Let's not be cynical. It means that soon their currency will soon be backed by gold. So, ordinary citizens will have paper currency backed on gold. You don't need to own the coin.
The problem with this effort is, it is self defeating. America prints dollar out of nothing and is printing so much and will buy their gold. Now America has their gold and they have a paper money. To be effective, they must not accept currency exchange if not backed up by gold. It must be a collective effort of nations though to switch to currency that is backed up by gold/silver to have major effect on inflation. In my opinion, they are just simply selling their gold to get more dollar reserve.
The primary cause of inflation in Zimbabwe is the reckless printing of money by the central bank. Gold coins will do exactly zero to address this problem. On the other hand, a genuinely gold backed currency - i.e. a real gold standard - would be an effective solution.
Wrong. The primary cause of inflation not only in Zimbabwe is following a failed monetary system of the few. A system only design for the benefit of the few who control this failed monetary system.

It could somehow work as suspension into inflation. Just the zimbabwe central bank should carefully consider how much gold the country has. Its OK to peg the money into gold, so the government will know when to stop printing money, which is when a lot of gold already circulated as zimbabwe gold coin.

This has 2 effects: producing a currency for the rich (savings) and easy way to leave the country for another one (no transfer money just a purse).

A gram? I think you mean an ounce. Way too big to be a gram.
for those complaining that life is hard in Zimbabwe, they don't pay mortgage, they don't have house repairs, they grow their own food, they basically own whatever they have and they complain, while in Switzerland, there is mortgage, car loan, and many other things that people take by credit. God gave Africans good weather and land, but the perennial complaint and begging is what is their problem here.
Just to note, the government is now in the works of adding denominations to the coin so that it can be traded further!
1 oz (standard) = $1800
1/2 oz = $900
1/4 oz = $450
1/10 oz = $180
They could also start a silver coin for day to day buy and sell. And also I think it’s a wonderful step.
God save them from evil people .
And may they prosper
So, the opposite of printing more money ?
A deflationary effect by taking cash out of circulation ?
Or just avoids having to print enough bills to keep up with inflation ?
At this point, their problem isn't bad policy, but no trust. No one trusts the local currency, that's why it keeps failling even though it doesn't print money to pay for loans anymore.

The problem with this effort is, it is self defeating. America prints dollar out of nothing and is printing so much and will buy their gold. Now America has their gold and they have a paper money.
