Mexico went through something similar in the early 90’s and my parents sometimes tell similar stories, I started collecting coins again and through the years I was given a huge bag of worthless peso coins from that era and I’m figuring out what to do with it
I was born in Zim and when I was younger I remember seeing a 10 billion dollar note on the ground and people just kept walking past it...that's when I knew it was worthless😂😂😂
When I was in high school circa 1990, one of my friends went on a school trip to Poland. They were having a slightly less epic hyperinflation event at the time (they ended up doing a 10,000-to-1 redenomination of the złoty a few years later), and I remember my friend came back with a 1-million-złoty bill. It wasn't _completely_ worthless, but at the exchange rate in effect at the time he was there, it had cost him something like $20, which he figured was worth it to be able to tell people he was a millionaire. :)
i am from Poland and barely remember this period as i was just a few years old. New banknotes started appearing in 1994 but old ones were legal tenders until about 1998 I think (with their 1:10000 conversion ratio). Hyperinflation was stopped in about 1992-3, it remained in double digits until 2000-ish but it was a far cry from 1989-1990 craziness. Even though getting salaries in the millions (a common salary in mid-1990's was about 10 million old PLN or 1000 new PLN) was pretty short-lived people got used to it and liked it. They were often expressing their income / spending in millions well into the 2000's. The bad side of high inflation was running out of money before you'll receive your next paycheck. Normally people were used to living on a monthly wage and could plan their spending, but when this inflation came into place this was no longer possible. You realized that it's still 10 days to next paycheck and you ran out of money. You have nothing left, not even for a single pack of cigs or loaf of bread. People started demanding employers to pay them twice a month or even once a week. At least we didn't reached completely uncontrolled inflation levels like Germany in 1923 or Hungary in 1946. In those cases prices were doubling every few hours. Currency was completely useless and people were paid in raw goods instead.
If WE had a dollar for everytime WE’ve been told in the last three years that the monies ( RV ) going through this week or next week or this weekend, or Monday, we would all be millionaires right now. The new war will serve as another excuse to KEEP the RV from happening.
@@3ybh3lloll3hby3 Just because it's there doesn't mean you know it exists, you probably wouldn't have seen it because schools normally keep it in the staff room or a room easily accessible by teachers, not students.

I watched this again (after a few years), and I found this quite an informative video! Also, the first two minutes of this video is an excellent explanation of what hyperinflation is. Thanks for the video! I'll subscribe now!
Had to be them going through the motions of trying to pretend it was legitimate money, rather than being actually worried about counterfeit. Anyone making counterfeit money at the time would surely have been making foreign currencies, no way that making fake ZWD could have been worth it.
Probably cost way more to print the ZWD than they were worth, anyone trying to 'counterfeit' the bills would have been doing the government a favor really.
The hyperinflation and the hardship it caused people, not so funny; but having a watermark and microprint with the wrong number of zeros on a bill with so many zeros that you can understand how they would lose track, kind of funny.
I remember, dad told me, what happened in Romania. You need to understand, some years back, Romanians actually had to cut two zeros off their prices and bank notes, because things got a bit out of hand... So what happened to my dad? He went to local exchange office to sell some 50 West German Marks (this was in like eighties). My aunt told him, he absolutely has to take something to carry his money around. Like a plastic bag... or three. Well, she was right. Dad claims to this day, to have brought back about fifteen kilo worth of money.

@AndyAndromedaArt Actually, the note can sell for at least $80-90 on eBay in Uncirculated condition. I have the 10, 20 and 50 trillion banknotes myself. Some $100 Trillion notes command a very high price due to their serial number and grade (condition). But I opt to spend my money on collecting notes from other countries which are rarer and have more security features.
As a South African myself, I have never been as embarrassed by my birth country as today, and tomorrow the same statement will be true. The misery that so-called social progress in Southern Africa has caused is incredibly devastating.

I watched this again (after a few years), and I found this quite an informative video! Also, the first two minutes of this video is an excellent explanation of what hyperinflation is.
Thanks for the video! I'll subscribe now!
The anti-counterfeiting features seem a bit unnecessary.
Yea, paper is worth more without printing the value on it
@@murilo7794 on certain cases, though, its value could also go up when you print a number on it, in this case, it just devalued itself
So Zimbabwe is like Monopoly but with real money
Sadly the whole world is like monopoly
You were sent the notes for free because they are worth $0
I’m sure they’re worth something to collectors
They cost about 30$ for collectors
Shipping costs money
No it's worth trees
Even paper costs so its at least 12 cents
I remember, dad told me, what happened in Romania. You need to understand, some years back, Romanians actually had to cut two zeros off their prices and bank notes, because things got a bit out of hand... So what happened to my dad? He went to local exchange office to sell some 50 West German Marks (this was in like eighties). My aunt told him, he absolutely has to take something to carry his money around. Like a plastic bag... or three. Well, she was right. Dad claims to this day, to have brought back about fifteen kilo worth of money.
