It is so funny, because throughout the year I was doing exactly those things you mention in your video. It is super difficult to move forward once you plateau. But on the other hand, it may be healthier sometimes to get to terms with the fact that continued growth is simply not possible.
Photography is more than just capturing moments - it is an art form, a means of communication and a way of experiencing the world more consciously. In a digital world where cameras are always available, it is easier than ever to take advantage of these benefits. And yet people miss out on sooo much, just enjoy the process of photography
The interdisciplinary approach to photography has been my credo since years both in my professional and also my private photography! It's so refreshing to go to a museum (even those where old masters are shown) to watch a play or an opera. Watch movies and most of all try to either get introduced or introduce yourself to places you have never been before. Even the worst places will evoke/provoke and consequently enrich your perception! Great topic! Great video! 🙌🏻
Tried the 28mm lens for the first time this year and I can say it's a great one. It does differ a lot from a 50mm (obviously). So it is getting a bit used to it. Finding new ideas is something huge. Trying new techniques and new lenses, talk to other photographers and see how they work, and hear what they think. Love the many ideas you gave in the video. I'm sure I'll explore them for a long time.
I like the suggestion regarding street portraits. I get a much better response from people on the street that I want to get a good photo of if I ask them “Can I take your portrait” than if I ask if I can take a photo of them. Don’t know why that works better, but even in New York it gets a decent response.
I just bought a 28mm on boxing day (albeit it's living on my crop sensor body, so about a 45 FF equivalent), and I am loving the new perspective it's giving me!
Another great video Tim. Your videos really are helpful and really engaging and help motivate me. Here's to 2025 and hopefully the continued success of your channel. Clive x
Lovely reflective video, Tim. I really enjoy following your journey. For focal lengths - 21mm and 28mm for urban/street and 40mm for rural scenes for me! Happy New Year and excited to see what you produce in 2025 😊
It's so wild you mentioned the 28. I've shot a LOT of 50 the last few weeks, but I'd picked up a vintage Asahi Pentax SMC Takumar 28 that I had purchased, tested, but never took out for a walk. And then you mention it, so it's like a sign from on high that I should take it out tomorrow, the last day of the year. Who knows? Great video and here's wishing you a great 2025 ahead. I"m planning to do one "anchor" project a month in 2025 to try and push my learning forward even more.
I was gifted a Chinon 3001 which shoots flash by default… being that noticeable is not at all my style but it has definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone in a positive way. Happy New Year, Tim! 🙏
I just got a 28mm lens for my new (second hand but new), sony 6400, and I just played with it for the first time yesterday and its great! I was walking along with my camera at my bellybutton height and I could just click as a I walked by and capture all sorts of things! I've never shot like that before! Very fun. Happy new year from Sydney!
I find that shooting another genre helps to keep street fresh. I dabble in wildlife and its a completely different approach to using my camera. I typically shoot street with a 16mm (24mm full frame) but recently picked up a 50mm (75mm full frame) and have used that several times. Lots of fun and forces me to see differently on the streets
@@timjamiesonphotos @Sean-Smith-Photos Same lenses (almost) for me - 16mm (24mm) and 56mm (84mm). I've NEVER shot with such a wide lens before (16mm/26mm) which I recently purchased and it really made me challenge my lack of confidence in getting close to subjects. But that's it - two lenses. Done. I only ever take out one lens at a time to reduce complications. You have to shoot with what you've got. I find that otherwise my focus and purpose of shooting diminishes with too many options (I do find I'm more relaxed using the 56mm and get way more shots, but I'm hoping that will change for when I use the 16mm too by forcing myself to repeat, repeat, repeat).
Totalmente de acuerdo Tim ,no es buena idea cerrarse a nuevos enfoques ,si ya te gusta el trabajo que haces , hay mucho campo por explorar . La Fotografia es juego y desafio . Buen video .
I shot with a 85mm equiv lens for almost a year and have recently moved down to 50mm equiv , hoping to go even lower to 28mm equiv. I also shot almost always in BW but have made more color shots since moving to the 50mm. So in 2025 i want to get more comfortable being closer to my subject and maybe incorporate more color in my photography.
Some great insight and ideas Tim! I'm wedded to my 27mm pancake which is c40mm equivalent. Tried a 35mm and it was way too heavy. Maybe 18mm pancake in 2025 🤔 P.s. what's on all the post it notes stuck to your bookshelf?? HNY!
I first started street with Nikon and a 24-120mm lens, then got braver with a 40mm - today I use a Leica with fixed 28mm and love it. I do street and street portraits and 2025 won't be any different for me but trying to expand my 'street eye' will be my focus (pun intended). Have a great year Tim. 🙂
No need to change. Just got a Nikon Zfc, full manual control set up. Just three lenses (16-50, 24, 10mm) and ready to get out there when that horrible grey mass finally disappears. Just let the sun shine on me and I am good to go.
YOUR WORK IS GOING TO DRASTICALLY CHANGE WITH THE 28MM! 28 AND WIDER IS THE BEST FOCALS FOR STREET... ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU GET UP IN IT!!! I REALLY DIG THIS VIDEO! LOOKING FORWARD TO WHERE YOU GO WITH YOUR CHANNEL IN THIS NEW YEAR!!!!🤘🏾🤘🏾
Literally the video I watched before this was a walkie talkie with Aaron Berger, where he says "worst advice I ever got in street photography: you have to be working on a project" 😅: ruclips.net/video/hIHMBUCyUtA/видео.htmlsi=d91C72sEPoVJE_rw&t=1393
Yeah I’ve seen that and all of Paulie B’s Walkie Talkies. It really depends what you want to get out of street photography: single shots of moments? A series of connected images? Take it seriously? Just do it for fun? - it’s individual. Projects work for me and give me impetus to shoot so I’m passing that on. It won’t be for everyone just like Aaron’s advice not to do projects won’t be for everyone either :)
@@timjamiesonphotos sure, it was meant as a joke and not criticism to your video. I think it is personal as you say, but also different depending on one's level of expertise and ability in photography
🔴 Thanks for watching! What are you going to focus your photography on in 2025?
50 Rolls of Film.

Thanks so much, Clive! Hope you have a great year!
I love taking street portraits, especially when I get to talk to my subjects and find out something about them.
It’s a lot of fun! I definitely went to do more in ‘25
Food for thought. Cheers Tim, continued success in 2025.
Thanks mate! Same to you 🙏🏻

@timjamiesonphotos thank you! You too!
Just noticed the girls ripping balloons at 3:50 😂
Haha classic Notting Hill Carnival
I want to do more street portraits. I keep saying it...
Only one thing for it mate, just have to get out there and do it
I've tried street photography with most of my prime lenses (except for the 85mm) and my favorite is definitely the 28mm...
Dang, I really need to try it!
