- Nathan's Famous started as a nickel hot-dog stand on Coney Island, New York, in 1916. Today, the restaurant has grown into an iconic global brand with its internationally recognized annual hot-dog-eating contest. Insider’s Jake Gabbard visited the Coney Island location to learn how the first-ever hot-dog-eating contest lured crowds to Nathan’s.
In this video, Nathan’s Famous told Insider that the hot dog eating contest was founded in 1916. However, the first recorded contest wasn’t until 1972. For more the annual hot dog eating contest, listen to Business Insider’s podcast: bit.ly/MakingNathansFamous

How Nathan's Makes the Most Legendary Hot Dogs in NYC | Legendary Eats
From a fellow New Yorker: most New Yorkers don’t eat Nathan’s unless they are at Coney Island
We had a Nathan's in my Community College cafeteria in Long Island. That's the only time I would eat Nathans and I would go for the cheeseburgers, never got the hot dogs.
Ivorene Smith I remembered when I was little we would go to a Nathan’s restaurant that had an arcade in Long Island. Not sure if it’s still there since I don’t live in NY anymore.
i usually just eat hot dogs from street cart, i used to eat nathan but not anymore
True
Papaya King
“You can’t drive through Brooklyn without going to Nathan’s”
yes. Yes you can
LOL I go straight to any high rated Pizza joint instead. DiFara, Table 87, or Totonno's which is actually right there on Coney Island!
Uptown NYC di fara is a rip-off and Nathan’s as well
you shouldn't though
@@UptownNYC di fara is on ave J not comey islan
@@davidweiss9891 The part I was referring to Coney Island was Totonno's.
I love how most food reviews always include “fresh”. It’s a mass produced hotdog…..it’s ok to say it tastes good with a great texture. Not everything is fresh…
If you say fresh I want to see the equipment!
why do you love that
The taste is "fresh and unique".... I don't think he meant the food itself. Anyway, it is true that it is misleading (or wrong if he did mean what you said)
Thank you
I think they mean "made to order"
This video doesn't show how Nathan's makes hot dogs, it talks about history of the place.

When I was a kid, maybe 5 or 6, my dad would come home from work, wake me at around 9pm, we’d go in a taxi to Nathan’s and I could get whatever I want. It’s still some of the best memories I have.

Coney Island to me was a Nathan's hot dog, a paper cup full of crinkly fries, an ear of corn slaked with melted butter, and a drink. Growing up in NYC there were lots of great hot dog vendors: Nedick's operated along the subways and at the entrance to the old Madison Square Garden. Sabrate's were sold from street carts and were everywhere. A decade later, when I worked in Atlantic City directly opposite Steeplechase Pier, there was a Nathans. Almost every day for lunch I had a dog, fries, corn, and a drink. 60 years later I keep Nathan's dogs in my freezer. Nathan's are reliably tasty!
I ate the same thing you describe, but didn't eat them unless I had an orangeaide with them.
Lies again? FNB Money Like Harmless
I want to eat there😢
I am so glad I got to grow up in Brooklyn and experience Famous Nathan's hotdogs and the fries were great too.
you should go to a state fair someday, same thing. except the hotdogs are better because they are real pork dogs not bland beef sausages spiced all the ef up.
Congratulations. What do you think about the food in other countries? I’ve come to realize that US has absolute garbage food. Argentina...delicious steaks very similar to Kobe. Italy...Mediterranean cuisine. Poland...mix of finest culinary combinations. Japan....sushi. Korea...Korean bbq...US...hot dogs, McDonald’s, and chemicals.

Makes me mad that the markets don’t sell the Nathan’s with natural casing at least in small quantities. If you can find a place like Costco back in the day which my grandma always had in her freezer was the restaurant style all beef hot dogs from Framer John. It was Farmer John’s restaurant style hotdog with all natural casing & pure all angus beef & I swear I always asked my grandma for a hotdog as a kid knowing she had those. Nobody else I knew would have those hotdogs but my grandma cause she had the extra large freezer in the garage & the box contained like 100+ dogs so you needed the room plus like Mexican grandma’s that was where all the family went to when hungry so they went.
The best was when she boiled them in beer until the beer reduced down to this rich sticky beer glaze then all you need was a good bun & mustard. Yum.
