I don't know why you are saying Yemen as if it is one country. Remember, Yemen is now split.
You have North Yemen which run by the Houthis and you have South Yemen run by the STC
South Yemen is rich will natural resources, it's just getting it up.

Good: Good quality of life. Good economy, plenty of subsidies. Very cheap oil and water prices. Stable country. Friendly people (in general, although some might be prejudiced). Not many taxes as an expat (you won't feel like getting ripped off just like anywhere else as an expat). Great scenery and outdoors. Lots of culture mixed in (highly expat-central country) so everyone speaks English except for some folks of the interior, but mostly all can speak a conversational level English. (Almost) non-existent crime. Strong national currency.
Bad: A bit more than normal (expensive) groceries except water, milk, and bread. Virtually non-existent public transport (you have to have your own car to get anywhere). While it has great scenery it loses in entertainment and city life compared to its neighbours Dubai and Abu Dhabi. As a result of being a highly expat central country for decades they have made it harder for new expats to come. Hard to get driver licenses (you'll probably fail the first times and then try again).

Hinduism Was The Largest Monotheistic Religion In Ancient Times, But When They Added The Trinity And Polytheism, The Religion Declined. The Holy Kaaba was recorded by the Greek historian Diodorus Siculus before Christ Era.
In John (4:21-24) Jesus Christ also told that woman that neither at Jerusalem nor in its mountain God will be worshipped, why?
CLEARLY, THE PLACE & DIRECTION OF WORSHIP WOULD BE CHANGED TO THE FINAL TEMPLE SINCE THE HOUR IS ABOUT TO COME!.
Because God is Spiri*t, therefore, the *true worshippers would worship HIM as spirit & not as God Incarnate in human form.
The Kaaba, a black cubical building at the center of the Grand Mosque of Mecca; it is the most sacred site in Islam.
The Jewish Tefillin [Prayer Leather Box] With The Seven Straps Around The Arms, Relates To The Seven Circumambulation Around The Kaaba.
They Witnessed The First Human Period Rain, Which Becomes The Zam Zam [Named By Hagar In Egyptian - Stop Flowing] Well.
Then God Sends An Asteroid From The Heavens, Which Lands, Which Is Later Placed On The Corner Of The Kaaba [First Temple].
The Kaaba Akin To King Solomon's Temple, As Been Destroyed And Rebuilt.

All The Prophets Of God, Went To Becca [Now Mecca] For The Hajj [Pilgrimage]
Adam & Eve Built The First Temple There, With Witnessing The First Rain From The Heavens.
Akin To King & Prophet Solomon's Temple, It Has Been Destroyed And Rebuilt.
It Was Destroyed After The Flood Of Noah, Then Abraham Rebuilt It, With His Second Wife Hajar, Whom Founded The First Spring Again, After It Was Lost In Time [Called Zam Zam - Egyptian For Stop Flowing].

Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
who have set their hearts on pilgrimage [Hajj].
As they pass through the Valley of Baca [Now Mecca],
      they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
They go from strength to strength,

      Quran [Last Testament]:
      95. Say: "(God) speaketh the Truth: follow the religion of Abraham, the same in faith; he was not of the Pagans."
      96. The first House (of worship) appointed for men was that at Bakka [Now Mecca]: Full of blessing and of guidance for all kinds of beings:
      97. In it are Signs Manifest; (for example), the Station of Abraham; whoever enters it attains security; Pilgrimage thereto is a duty men owe to God,- those who can afford the journey; but if any deny faith, God stands not in need of any of His creatures.
The Word Tefillin Derives From Tawaf, Circumambulation Around The Kaaba.
Adam & Eve Were Sent Down Separately, They Both Meet Up In The Valley Of Becca [Now Mecca].

The underworld as a pit, hole, or a place of darkness into which one falls point to a hell.

      Gospel [New Testament]:
"But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8
"And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell." - Matthew 10:28
"And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” - Matthew 25:46
      Quran [Last Testament]:
"Fear the Fire whose fuel is men and stones,- which is prepared for those who reject Faith" (2:24).
"Enough is Hell for a burning fire. Those who reject Our Signs, We shall soon cast into the Fire... For God is Exalted in Power, Wise" (4:55-56).
"But he whose balance (of good deeds) is found to be light, will have his home in a (bottomless) Pit. And what will explain to you what this is? A Fire blazing fiercely!" (101:8-11).
"Those who reject Faith, and die rejecting,- on them is God's curse, and the curse of angels, and of all mankind. They will abide therein: Their penalty will not be lightened, nor will they receive respite" (2:161-162).
"They are (men) whom God hath cursed: And those whom God Hath cursed, thou wilt find, have no one to help" (4:52).
"Those who deny (their Lord), for them will be cut out a garment of Fire. Over their heads will be poured out boiling water. With it will be scalded what is within their bodies, as well as (their) skins. In addition there will be maces of iron (to punish) them. Every time they wish to get away therefrom, from anguish, they will be forced back, and (it will be said), "Taste the Penalty of Burning!" (22:19-22).
"In front of such a one is Hell, and he is given, for drink, boiling fetid water" (14:16).
"In its midst and in the midst of boiling hot water will they wander round!" (55:44).
"Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. It is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire.
The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils. Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire" (37:62-68).
"Verily, the tree of deadly fruit will be the food of the sinful. Like molten lead will it boil in the belly, like the boiling of burning despair" (44:43-46).

Compared to the other GCC countries, Oman is still very slow and calm whereas other GCC countries like Qatar and UAE are miles ahead but still the peace and hospitality you will find in Oman is something you just cannot find in other GCC countries. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos was a legendary man. Under his reign, Oman boomed SO MUCH and he played a very important role in maintaining not just peace within the GCC but around the world.

My father and our family got posted there in the late 90s and when my grandfather visited us he couldnt believe his eyes. Ok, but what I understand from this is that the real definitive factor for Oman stability and success was Sultan Qaboos, and his radical position of minding his own business in the international community, believing that his subjects, all if them, were people with hopes and aspiring, snd happy subjects won't try to kill you, and that hoarding wealth hor himself is just stupid. The late Sultan was definitely partially responsible, but the fact that Oman has been an ally to the West since the mid-1800's has also played a great part in their prosperity. Oman is an example of how Western secularism and Muslim fundamentalism can be balanced and used to bring progress to the region. The ideals and values espoused by Islam need not be at odds with secular life. Much of the region would do well to emulate Oman.

Borders are arbitrary, cruel, and relatively modern human inventions designed to horde wealth on some pieces of dirt and not on others. Whether you belong to the wealthy pieces of dirt or not is sheer luck and meritless. It's not realistic to suddenly get rid of borders but should the Earth have borders in 1000 years? No, definitely not. A more ideal world than ours would not have borders. Self-governing provinces or city-states without physical barriers between them is much better

To say that a country needs to exist without external influences is like saying that a person needs to exist without being influenced by anyone else in the world. It's unrealistic. As long as there are people around you they'll always try to influence you one way or the other. Sometimes they do it to further their own agenda, sometimes they do it thinking it's for your own good, sometimes they do it because they feel their own survival depends on it. Either way, no country can be free of external influence because countries are ultimately made up of people. And people will always have an agenda. A country's success or failure depends on its ability to further its own agenda without getting derailed by those of others. That's also true of individuals.

When my father was alive he was probably America's top expert on Oman. There were only two other competitors but he deserved it. He loved exploring their caves and took many photos of their mountains. He wrote a tour book, met the sultan one and a half times, had ambassadors call him with questions. He discovered a geologic formation akin to New Hampshire's late Old Man of the Mountain and dubbed it Old Man of Oman. He was in the process of giving tours to Hollywood set location scouts and he worked with the Omani government to promote tourism too. Then a thing happened about 20 something years ago and nobody wanted to go to the middle east on vacation, ruining my dad's dreams.
He said both on 9/10 and 9/12 the Omani didn't care to promote themselves. They were great. They knew they were great. They figured they didn't need to shout about how great they were. They thought people would just naturally want to come see their prosperous, happy, beautiful, peaceful nation.
Talking about Oman isn't like talking about most minor countries that nobody can seem to find on a map. When i told people my dad was an expert on Oman they didn't say "where's that." They would say " what's that." Oman is a country so obscure people don't even know it's a country.

I gotta qualify this. I'm someone who hates ads so much that I get angry whenever anyone brings them up, be it sponsors or plugging their own videos. I immediately skip them as soon as I smell the ad, which usually happens before they drop the name.
However for this video, you integrated it into the content so well that I didn't notice up until I was already interested in the "plot" of the ad, so I actually watched it till 41:45 when it turned into a canned ad.
What I watched was infinitely more effective in making me consider the service than the canned ad, which I didn't even give a chance. I hope they pay you and other people skilled enough to do this more for doing it, b/c it is effective and far less irritating.

The most important reason is the religious tolerance of Oman, the peace-loving people of Oman in addition to brilliant and peace-loving leaders. I am an Indian who lived there for 25 years.

You know how chip bags usually arent 100 percent full?
Near the begininng, talking about the HDI scoring for Yemen and Oman, Yemen's score is like opening a bag of chips and there's only half of a broken chip (less than that realistically) while Oman opens their bag and its a little more than 80 percent full.

Maybe it's youtube, or maybe you optimized for cell phones, but on headphones on my PC the narration audio sounds very compressed - once the audio gets above a certain tone, there's a clear crunchy sound, every time.

I just came to the comments to see if I was imagining this. I wasn’t sure if it was bad audio compression or it’s even slightly sped up. I’m having a hard time listening to it. I felt like I noticed the same thing a week or two ago on new a Legal Eagle video. I wonder if it’s a RUclips issue rather than something the creators are doing.

I did a report on Oman in Eighth Grade. I don't remember much of what I wrote by the details, but thinking back, I remember feeling like it was an unremarkable country with pretty buildings.
Now, I know it's a perfectly functional country, and it being unremarkable is a built-in feature.

As a drug nerd, I want to contribute to this video by talking about khat. The drug contained within khat is called cathinone. Cathinone is, speaking somewhat loosely, natural amphetamine. Amphetamine itself doesn't occur in nature, but cathinone has the exact same chemical structure as amphetamine, with the addition of a single oxygen atom. (You can compare the diagrams of cathinone and amphetamine on Wikipedia to see what I'm saying.) Cathinone is a lot like amphetamine, just...not as good.
Chewing khat in Yemen and East Africa, which has occurred for centuries, can be directly likened to the chewing of coca leaves among Andean peoples in South America, only instead of getting a bit of cocaine by chewing coca leaves, you get what you could call speed's little brother by chewing khat. When the video creator says that widespread use undermines productivity, I wouldn't be 100% on that. In a more stable environment, people regularly doing a stimulant that's more powerful than caffeine but is still being used in much greater moderation than, you know, actual cocaine or amphetamine abuse, could actually potentially be a boon.
I'm not advocating for khat, or any other drug for that matter. I wanted to provide a little context for those who are curious.

    • @houndofculann1793

Well I mean cocaine itself gets abused as a productivity enhancer by many people so I'm not that surprised about the possibility here either.

Lived in Oman, Salalah for 21 years (2001-2021), grew up, went to school and made genuine friends there and I absolutely love that country. One of the safest countries as well and the Omani people are some of kindest people I have ever met and there are so many beautiful places to visit as well like wadi darbat, mughsail and more. I most definitely would love to go back for a visit someday.
And also Sultan Qaboos was one of the best kings, absolutely LOVED by many.
