  • Vernon Reid is best known as the guitarist for Living Colour, but his resume is as interesting as his guitar playing. He's recorded with other unique guitar legends, including Bill Frisell and Ronald Shannon Jackson, and produced several James "Blood" Ulmer albums. Across his four-decade career, Reid has shared session and stage time with an array of artists such as The Roots, Mick Jagger, Santana, Public Enemy, Jack Bruce, and Mariah Carey. For his episode of EQD at Home, shot and directed by his daughter Idea Viola Reid, the versatile guitarist shows us his digital and analog hybrid pedalboard. Watch as he uses his Line 6 Helix and several EQD stompboxes, including the Data Corrupter, and Aqueduct the "secret weapon" to his vibrato. Reid also professes his affection for the "freaky" reverb and modulation of the Astral Destiny. There are also pedals by Alexander, Chase Bliss, Eventide, and Red Panda and Reid keeps to all running smoothly with the EQD Swiss Things. Dig his cool jazzy Data Corrupter-laced solo over a walking jazz rhythm and, check out how many weird guitars this legend has in his house!

    Vernon Reid balls out live with sounds that other guitarists are too afraid to even think of. Love this!

    You really should ask Vernon if you could follow this up with a "Show Us Your Junk!" episode. I'd love to see the rest of his collection.

    Burnin' Vernon! I'm taken back to '89 when I was a kid trying to learn guitar in a pre-internet world - it was the guitar magazines that held the only option for me. I went to see the Stones in grade 9 where Living Colour opened and they scared the hell out of my little suburban mind. When I read Vernon's tabs in the guitar magazines, they really made me sweat. So glad to see he's still leaning into it.

    I'm glad to see that Vernon is still just as creative in 2021 as he was in the late 80s and truly has his own voice on the guitar.

    Vernon Reid has consistently evolved with the times in terms of playing and gear. Glad to see that hasn’t changed.

    I remember as a senior in high school-I was obsessed with Living Colour and especially Vernon Reid. His playing was like no other and when he spoke-I just loved hearing what he had to say. I remember mailing a letter to Guitar World and telling them that Vernon Reid deserves a feature article. Years later he finally got on the cover and had a feature story on Vernon and the album Stain. All these years later-I’m still a huge fan of him.

    Vernon's "Mistaken Identity" album is one of my favorite albums. Such a great mashup of metal, jazz-fusion, and hip-hop - and I really don't like hip-hop at all, but what Vernon does with it is really cool.

    I’m curious to know how the EQD Swiss things co exists with the Mission 3 way expression splitter

    • @skeenj
      @skeenj 2 года назад

      If understood what he was saying, the Swiss things organizes his pedal loops (some pedals have their own loops built in, and this helps route them). The # way expression splitter is used so that he only needs on expression pedal plugged in to the splitter, which then goes to expression input, on three different pedals. Sounded like he was using the expression on the Astral Destiny, Data Corrupter, and possibly something else.
