  • The Wall Part 1: • Their BEST Album? - Pi...
Today we finally hit the big one...Comfortably Numb...But there are other amazing songs in this half too! Thanks for stopping by for part 2 of Pink Floyd's "The Wall"!
P.S. I was notably inarticulate in this reaction, as I was leaning into enjoying the album over analyzing. :D I think many of you will appreciate that approach on Pink Floyd projects.

In case you missed it. At the very end, you can hear someone say: "Isn't this where...".
This connects with the first words spoken at the beginning of the album: " ...we came in?".
If you put this album on full repeat, it continues like one piece of music.
I like to think it represents the endless cycle of madness the character of Pink is going through.

People inside the wall are horrible to the people outside, even becoming tyrannical leaders in extreme cases. This leads to extreme pain, and other people building their own walls, and continuing the cycle.
For pink, Hitler played a big role in adding bricks to pink's wall, and Roger is getting at the idea that Hitler was inside his own wall.

This album changed my musical life - when I heard it as a freshman in HS, I'd already known and loved them from their 1987 Concert album, but that was just David Gilmour on vocals, and having Roger Waters and the original (not exactly but main run lineup of the band) made it a new level. I used to literally listen to this daily for maybe a year straight, and would write the entire lyrics in notebooks all day long at school. I bought the TAB in book form, as in 1991 that was all one could do, and tried to learn how to play things like the "Comfortably Numb" solo with little skill and on a cheap classical nylon guitar - little did I know I now possess certain unique sounds to my playing as a result, but yeah, tough endeavor. Not sure if this is my overall favorite of all their albums - but - yes, yu know, yes it is. When the 4 members re-united one time in 2006 it was like the greatest moment of my life. The solo to Comfortably Numb is to me the greatest in rock history - not the most technical but Gilmour is a guitar god not for playing fast but creating melodies with his solos and tone and bends that are all his own. Really cool album to hear you react too - super pleasant surprise!

You have good taste. This is their masterpiece... One of the greatest albums of all time. I enjoyed your reaction. Obviously you're a musician and much of your analysis was based generally around the music, but as you delve deeper into the lyrics upon future listens you'll quickly discover this is unquestionably their darkest album - if not most sublime.

On Confortably Numb's lyrics "The child has grown, the dream is gone"... David Gilmoure's solo at PULSE was the perfect expression of how deep those words can go. He makes you feel the whole journey from that child to his grown self, being no longer dazzled by the world,. and missing that feeling like hell. It's a solo you can't just hear, you feel it, inevitably.

It's great that you're enjoying Pink Floyd.
There are 3 singers in this band, and I'll break them down based on what you heard.
The Dark Side of The Moon is mostly David Gilmour(guitarist) singing.
Richard Wright(keyboard player) does backing vocals in Breathe, Us & Them. The only song that Richard takes lead vocals on is the chorus section of Time.
Roger Waters(bass player) sang lead vocals on Brain Damage and Eclipse.
The Wall is quite the opposite where Roger sang most of the songs, because that album was his personal project.
It's easier to say which songs Dave sang since everything else is Roger, and Richard didn't sing at all in that album
Dave sings the humming vocals at the beginning of The Thin Ice, he sang the Mother's parts in Mother(Roger sang as the kid talking to the mother, and then Dave comes in at "hush my baby don't you cry")
Another Brick in The Wall Part 2 is him and Roger singing together.
Goodbye Blue Sky, Young Lust, Comfortably Numb(the chorus sections only, while Roger sings the verse), Run Like Hell(every verse line he and Roger switch back & forth)
As I mentioned, The Wall was Roger's personal project so he wrote and composed just about every song, but, Dave composed the music for these songs off The Wall; Young Lust, Comfortably Numb, and Run Like Hell.

You have to watch the movie, It’s a work of art and it’ll give this amazing album perspective, after all it is a soundtrack about the rise and fall of a rock star who like so many post WW2 children struggled with the consequences of war torn Britain before PTSD was a recognised. condition.
In the UK up to the mid 1980s corporal punishment and child abuse was rife. The main hit from this album “Another Brick in the Wall” was like a mirror we’d hold up to our physcopathic teachers. We’d play it or sing it full blast in the corridors, classrooms and dormitories. Consequently we felt a sense of justified empowerment no matter how hard the teachers tried to ban it!

Both Waters and Gilmour are the vocalists of Pink Floyd.
For instance, the chorus of confortably is sang by Gilmour, the rest of the song (and most of the wall) features Waters on vocals.

i have to be honest, not my favorite reaction video(s) to the wall, but i think it was mostly due to you being more focused on the music rather than the story of the album, which is fine because the music is so overwhelming at times. the story is very intricate, and hard to get on your first listen. i hope you have gone back and re-listened on your own, preferably while reading along with the lyrics. when the album came out in 1979 we were left to figure out the story on our own (the movie was a few years later). repeated listening is the best way to absorb it,and will yield more and more understanding each time.

lol. Thinks David singing is the best Roger has sounded on the album.
2 different people singing on that song. Roger verses, David chorus.

Please listen to Ants From Up There or at least google it and read a review or two before dismissing it. The wall was my favorite album ever for a long time and the thing that got me into music, and I’ve watched all of your Radiohead reactions as i’m also a devout radiohead fan so please listen to me when I say I do believe you will find Ants From Up There to be one of the most impressive albums ever. Rated top album of the year overall on RYM and has received critical acclaim from everyone I’ve seen who has reviewed it
    At least consider it

I’m sorry I never comment but I’ve been watching u for so long and I believe we have incredibly similar music tastes and I wholeheartedly believe you will find so much to love about that album especially because of how much you loved The Trial they’re both incredibly theatric but in a beautiful yet devastating way

Mate, if you want to listen to the song uninterrupted, why not just go and listen on Apple Music? We’re here for the reaction - it’d be pretty boring if he just sat there looking at us!! I for one love hearing him get surprised and excited around every corner.
And, Nightwalk my friend, you absolutely need to do a reaction to the Pulse live concert version of Comfortably Numb!!

Dude, you talk too much. Just sit back and LISTEN and react afterwards.

Well I’m not going to sit in silence for 50 minutes and review it afterwards, and if I ever pause people also get upset. I think this is a pretty decent middle ground.

So many other channels do that... I'm here for Nightwalk's own way of reacting. If you don't like it, move on!

@Nightwalk - Do it your way, man. Don't listen to the ones who complain about how YOU do YOUR content. They can walk if they don't like it.

@@NightwalkReal I think he did it about right. He definitely spoke over some key lyrics but I suspect he was more engaged with the music and production than anything else. Which is okay. You can only take in so much of such a powerful and transcendent album at first listen.

@@flubblert Thanks all! I know it's not gonna be everyones cup of tea but that's alright. I've actually been reading through some of the lyrics and they're really powerful. Will continue to dig!
