  • All fotos and videos are private recordings taken in May 2023 by myself in Japan. The 4 fotos in the outro were shot on the premises of the Todai-ji temple complex.
    The map of all wonders in the beginning was created by GL.Grabwespe for this video.
    This video is the beginning of a series, in which my brother and I try to visit the real life locations of all AoE2 wonders.

    Annotation 1: The destruction in 1181 occured in January. So actually a snowy landscape would have been historically accurate but I thought about that too late.
    Annotation 2: As an experiment I ran the script of this video through an AI auto-video generator . The result really resembles the style of much what you see nowadays on TikTok, shorts etc. Crazy how with literally 30 seconds effort a "modern viral" video can be made. Outcome: ruclips.net/video/C1eIcgkVc-c/видео.html

    Junge! Machst Du phantastische Videos!

    I was surprised when both fires turned out to be acts of war. Usually when you go to a historic site there is always a "great fire of 12something". Here they must have paid a lot of attention to the temple. It's rare to have such an old structure, even with taking the reconstructions into account.
    Great video 🙏

    This reminds me of the Slavs wonder the Transfiguration Church at Kizhi Pogost. It's a great building to look at but totally anachronistic considering it was finished in 1714.
    The Dormition Cathedral makes so much more sense and even has a model in the scenario editor. I don't get why they don't change it.

  • @SvanTowerMan
    @SvanTowerMan 9 месяцев назад +3

    I think the devs used the modern variant, despite being too late for the game, because it is the most recognizable. The Burmese Wonder should not have a gold roof, and yet, it does in-game, because that's the most recognizable version. I think the devs often just use the most recognizable form of a building, rather than an accurate one.

    • @armchairsaurus
      @armchairsaurus  9 месяцев назад +3

      that is a beautiful and benevolent interpretation. Much more beautiful than the alternative explanation, which is they simply didn't bother to research

    • @SvanTowerMan
      @SvanTowerMan 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@armchairsaurus It's possible they didn't do research, but given the game was made before the internet, I'll give them a pass. The modern devs have no excuse for such shoddy historicity.
