  • Buy the ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WiFi: amzn.to/3DLbZuq
    The ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-E is here to impose its premium-self, and it does so impeccably.
    The manufacturing is gorgeous, giving us one of the most beautifully executed upper-tier gaming motherboards available today.
    So much so that I start to seriously worry for its more expensive HERO variant which won’t do much more than what this board can.
    Enjoy!

    Well, it is a nice MOBO. Got a question tho. I wanna upgrade my PC from I5-11600KF to a I7-13700KF or a I9-13900F. Well the wattusage on fully load for both I7 and I9 are 235 watt. My GPU on fully load almost 400 watt. It is a Rog Strix RTX 3080 OC White Edition. Total usage of watts on fully load on what I can see on almost every chart when benchmarked both GPU and CPU are between 628W to 653W at it's most. Having a 750W PSU so that means I can use I7-13700KF or I9-13900F plus Asus Rog Strix RTX 3080 OC White Edition. Or am I wrong?
    Don't want to change the PSU because of the very good cablemanagement. It is a pre-built computer I got and the company I bought it from did a monstergood cablemanagement and I don't wanna screw that up.

The B650E version of this model is 400€ (and had an additional 45€ cashback) - and is pretty close in features. I am wondering what you are thinking about that one. 08:50 If you running a 4090 you will bottleneck it down to 16gbps by only giving it 8 channels at gen 4 (since it uses a gen 4 bus). It's better to give it full x16 channels with access to 32gbps (64 at gen 5), of which it will only use 20gbps. In short don't put anything in the M.2_1 slot. If you running any less powerful card its probably a non-issue.

    Have had this since launch. My only gripes are it should have had dual NICS. Plus, there are 2 fan headers dead center that are almost useless if you have a air cooler that just sits over them. Also, realize that the lanes when adding nvme's mean you should not put a nvme drive in I think it's the second slot AND the pcie5 slot. I'm going by memory here but the lanes are tricky. You actually need to use slot 1, and 3 to not impact your gpu.

    • @Aesopx

      Isn't it Slot 1 you should avoid?

    • @iris4547
      @iris4547 10 месяцев назад

      nvme in slot 1 will drop your gpu from 16x to 8x, but thats pcie5. so 8x is equivalent to 16x pcie4, which will not bottleneck anything since even a 4090 will not saturate pcie4 16x. so its perfectly fine to run a pcie5 nvme drive and a top of the line graphics card and not bottleneck either.

    What's up with Asus? The last mb I bought and still use is an older Hero Maximus board. All I had to do was screw the damn thing into the case, plug everything in and it worked fine. Now, I go to their site and get an assistant on the horn and he proceeds to give me the 8000 steps to get this mb here that your reviewing up and running. Good grief. So after a half hour of crap, a new browser just to get a damn file. Another program to rename files, renaming files. Intel Me. Good grief. We have gotten to the point once again where tech is so advanced we are going backwards.

    According to Asus tech specs he is incorrect. He states it only has 1x PCIE 5.0 16, 1x PCIE 4.0 16 x4 and 1x PCIE 3.0 16 x 1 I have just double checked Asus specs and it has It has 1x PCIE 5.0 at x16 and 2xPCIE 4.0 16 at x4. So last slot isn't a PCIE 3.0 16 x1 it is a PCIE 4.0 16 x4... i.e. a better spec that he is reporting.

    • @vincentsantucci2478
      @vincentsantucci2478 Год назад +9

      I faced the same choice but still went for the Strix E-Gaming for 2 reasons - 1. You need to use the add on M.2 PCIE card on the Hero to use PCIE 5.0 M.2 SSD whereas the Strix has it onboard. Issue with the add-on card is that it would severely block airflow to the 4090 fans. 2. Hero comes with inbuilt Thunderbolt 4 ports which I will never need at the cost of USB A ports, of which I need as many as possible (even though I also use powered USB hubs). The superior audio codec on the Hero would have been nice but overall the compromises didn't make sense for me and ontop of that would have had to pay extra for it.

      @@vincentsantucci2478 the strix however if you use the gen5 lane with a gen 4 or gen 5 you cut the gpu bandwidth in half to x8. While on the hero you can put any gen 4 anywhere and not suffer the same consequence. Then user a vertical mount for the gpu and place your hyper expansion card on the third slot
