    Hi Don, your videos are awesome. What size line are you using to your dodgers? How about your leader when fishing for kokanee?

    • @doafish
      @doafish  Год назад

      For Kokanee, I use 8 to 10-pound test Nanofil braid by Berkley. If I am using fluorocarbon, I use again, 8 to 10-pound test. If using my glide baits for Lakers, I use 14-pound Vicious monofilament. Leader from the Dodger (kokanee) I use straight 10-pound test fluorocarbon, unless they are finicky. Then, I go back to 8-pound test. I hope that helps. Thanks for the comment!

      Yes, I still fish for bass. Usually in the spring and fall but not so much in the summer.

    Great video! I’ll be camping at Mustang Ridge in June. Will be fishing Antelope Flats, Linwood Bay and Mustang Ridge area. Are those areas I could try the glidebaits? I have many of the same glide baits you showed in this video

    • @doafish
      @doafish  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes, but as it gets into June, you must use them in the very early morning (just at dawn) until around 9:00 a.m and then again in the late evening between 7:00 pm and dark. I do not know much about the shallow lake trout in the Mustang area, but Antelope and Linwood are great areas to fish glides. Good Luck!!

    What month was this I’d love to give that a go

    • @doafish

      I start fishing the glide bait as soon as ice comes off and continue through the first part of June. Different parts of the lake "wake up" sooner than other areas. So, find long, rocky points next to very deep water and throw the glide baits as far away from the boat as possible. Then, slowly, slowly, slowly work the lure back to the boat. Be mindful to watch for fish waking behind the lure before they strike. I actually fish the glide bait all year long, but the bite is much more predictable in the Early Spring. Good Luck!!

      Awesome I’ll have to go give it a try I’ve thought about doing it just wasn’t sure of the best time of year to try it out.

    Hey, Don! Glad to see you back at it. We were up there the entire week of Memorial Day. Caught our share of fish, but nothing like the numbers we used to see. At what weight are you releasing the lakers? Typically, I tell folks to release anything over 10 lbs simply because I think the fish aren't as good eating when they are older. I'm curious to hear your opinion.

    • @doafish
      @doafish  2 года назад

      I rarely keep lake trout over 25 inches. Call me crazy, but I do buy the fact that there are way too many pups in the lake. Although I keep a 10-pounder once a year or so, if I am keeping fish it will be the small ones.

    • @austinolsonoutdoors3039
      @austinolsonoutdoors3039 2 года назад

      I've kept a few 5lbers and they are nowhere near as good tasting and the smaller pups (under 25 inch).

    • @doafish
      @doafish  2 года назад +1

      @@austinolsonoutdoors3039 I agree. As I said before, there are a couple of times a year we "bake" a lake trout for the family and the way we smoke it if incredibly good, but I release 99 percent of any lake trout even nearing 25 inches. It's just me. However, when I get into schools of those 12 to 16 inchers, I take the 12 fish limit and bottle them. They are fantastic!

    Great video Don. Could a guy put those on down riggers in the summer and send them down? Asking for a friend….

    • @doafish
      @doafish  2 года назад

      I think there are much better lures to go on a downrigger. The glide baits mostly float, or slowly sink so the action behind a downrigger ball doesn't come close to what happens on the surface or just a few feet underneath. I am certain you could fool some fish BUT, try a J-13 Rapala or other "billed" lures to be more secure in the presentation. I will continue to experiment with my glides and update you if I were to discover other ways to use them.
