- When ice fishing season is wrapping up, it's time to move on to the next season. That's ice-off season. So we travel to Buckboard Marina on the Wyoming side of Flaming Gorge where the fishing can be off the charts. So we head out with biologists and the guides from Buckboard to talk lake trout, Kokanee, and what anglers need to do when they come up to Flaming Gorge this year when targeting laker pups.
New to fishing Flaming Gorge (first time will be in one month!) but not new to Lake Trout. I've developed techniques that work for shore casters but it requires that you can read a lake! I must say I think the absolute best tasting fish on the planet is a 16-20in lake trout or a Kokanee of similar size. If they want to kick off a derby they should have a camp out event for the weekend of the derby where they have food stands, a car show, live bands, best smoked trout contests, other events ect.....
I remember being told in the nineties by Marina owners to release all fish as They thought I was catching too many. I told them ..ok I will release them..but these fish are going to eat you out of house and home and they did. Main reason was they put Bass in the lake which ate all the lake trouts food source except rainbows and Kokanee.
I love ksl outdoors and flaming gorge so this one is a double win!
So riddle me this Batman. Why is there any limit on pup sized lake trout? If they really want them gone or significantly reduced it seems a limit of 12 is counter intuitive.

I would dare to say Mr. Valdez is a minority with a last name like Valdez. The host is of Mexican heritage. My mom is Mexican. So every time you watch the show you are watching a minority.
How about you focus on the fishing and not how you can make yourself a victim in every situation.
