    During that period of time the Doobie Brothers lived next door to my place, well one door down. We got along great. My roommate was a jazz drummer so music was everywhere. They did piss me off before I let it go. They parked their big truck, trailer on our road in our little dirt road town of Montara, south of San Francisco on the coast. We couldn't get around the big rig to drive up the hill! They were nice people all in all. Also used to see Neil Young come down from his mountain ranch to buy perogies at the little Italian Mkt. The cool thing was none of them wanted or were treated special. They just wanted to hide away from the public and be real. It was a great time to be alive.

    • @BC25citizen
      @BC25citizen 4 года назад +2

      That's right, we did. The actual DJ would answer his own phone. One time I requested a song the guy didn't have, but the next day he dug up another record by the same band and played it just for me. (Thanks, Al Otero at KABQ!)
      Many years later I called a Bay Area DJ and asked for Rush..... That did not go well. He couldn't give me a straight answer as to why, but basically corporate HQ had decided that "that music" wasn't right for "this demographic ". Psssshhhh.

    This song is very emotional for me. The tune came out about a month before I started my freshman year in college. I was in the dorm room and my roommate takes out his Gibson SG and plays the intro from China Grove. I was a big city kid and he was from a farm near a town of 100 population. We were from two very different worlds and music brought us together for life. I live in MN and lives in CA. We had lunch together a couple of months ago.

    Jamel I was so fortunate to be in my late teens early 20's in the late 60's early 70's. I got to see so many of these bands live, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, ELO, Meatloaf, The Moody Blues, The Guess Who, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath and the list goes on. I wish you could have been with me, you would have had the time of your life!

    I just found your channel!! You understand me!! I just turned 63 yesterday and what a gift you are!! Grew up in rural wa state in the 60s listening to all these "oldies" dancing and singing.... A hard hard time with riots, Vietnam war, assassinations, birth control pills, free love, o man .... The doors! Supremes! Beatles, so many... All of them together made it magical. I'm making a list for you. Start w Martha Reeves and the Vandellas Dancing in the Street. Lightening Strikes, Polk Salad Annie Tony Joe White best version ever. Blue Velvet Bobby Vinton. Unchain my Heart Joe Cocker. Ronnie Wood 7 days. See if you can find the video of Freddy Mercury's mom and sister telling his story. I found your channel as I was listening to Steely Dan songs, hopefully seeing them live 6/4/20 with my high school bud Courtney! 45 years since we graduated, 1975!
    Anyway, I'm hooked!! How about the band Yes??? Close to the Edge! The album Swiss Movement Les McCann and Eddie Harris 💙💙💙💙💙 music has saved me!!

    The reason you like these suggested songs are three fold. 1. Because they are truly fantastic songs... from the best time in recording history! Recording studio technology had risen to a level past its infancy of Elvis and The Beatles and while still recorded in analog, these technological breakthroughs inspired incredible creativity from many bands and sound engineers. These songs come from the peak in recorded history IMHO (not that other music geneations aren't written or recorded well). 2. Because it's absolutely not by mistake or luck that these songs were hits. Literally millions upon millions of die-hard critical music lovers scrutinized every song from their favorite bands and theses are the songs they (we) LOVE to this day. Lastly, it's a credit to you, Jamel, to devise a channel by which you are told what to listen to by subscribers and in doing so, you actually listen and react with a microscopic ear to the melodys, rhythms and nuaunces that made these songs f'n great. Kudos to you for your ingenuity and your channel's success! Guitartec

Then he suggested we should turn the volume way up. I was blown away immediately. I never tire of hearing China Grove (or any Doobies for that matter).

    My boyfriend loved this band, particularly "The Captain and Me' album from around 1972. I too became such a fan! So much so that he bought tickets and took me 125 miles away to a concert in Dallas. This was in my senior year in high school (73-74). We married that spring and here we are 46 years later still rockin' on.
