10 Most Collectable Classic Mopar Muscle Cars | How Much They Cost?
ruclips.net/video/pXjoJ2Iadiw/видео.html
My favorite is 68 charger.R/T.
Talladega, where are they?
The 68,69,70 Charger body style has always been my absolute favorite !
The 1971 Plymouth had the best body style yet.
Same here! 440-Six Pack! I remember watching 1970ish episodes of The Mod Squad. Pete said to Julie: "Honey get the car!" It was a 1970 Charger. First time I had ever seen one! Loved it and her too! lol
About '69 took a used '68 Charger home to see if my mom was interested in it... she liked it, but Dad said too much money... metallic turquoise, white vinyl top, white vinyl interior... gorgeous... 318 automatic... but they weren't "fastest" even with the big motors because of the weight...
@@buzzwaldron6195 Thanks for sharing Buzz. In the early 90s, I almost bought a 1970 Charger with a custom paint job. Came with a 360 (had one in my 75 Dart Sport, so I knew that a 360 in a Charger wasn't correct). The guy didn't want me to take it on the highway. Too bad I thought. I did and it started to shake (tie rod ends?) and the motor had no guts for a 360. Took a pass on it of course.
@@charbon2004 - 360 came out about 1972 as an emissions slug engine, lasted OK, but low on power and a gas hog until 1993 when the much improved Magnum 5.9L./360 came out... I was shocked to see a '90 Grand Cherokee w/ 360 was still only rated 9 MPG city and 11 MPG hwy... Ford and GM had begun fixing their early 1970's emissions slug engines starting in 1976...
I appreciate you're saying that about the style of the second Gen. Charger. My Uncle was head of the design team for that. It was originally gonna get thrown out, but they pushed it through anyway, and the rest is history.
These cars are exactly why i am a huge Mopar fan. I always wanted a Challenger and in 2016 i finally realized that dream with a B-5 Blue Hellcat.
My buddy had a 1970 Challenger R/T 440-6 pack and we had that speedometer sitting at 143 mph. Damn nice car!
No you didn't
bullshit..top speed was 114 mph
Bull shitterget in.my 68 newyorker440 4 barrel he will.shit guranteed
@@chadhaire1711
What makes you say that the challengers top speed was 114?
How do you know?
@@ronbloomberg Because I was there and had the spec sheets...still do......the engine would have over revved and blown up at 143 mph.....or before...all these stories about crazy top speeds are fish stories..same with bullshit 1/4 mile time and horsepower stories......and the fake numbers inflate years after year.
In 1974 I bought my first 1968 Charger 383 4V auto with A/C, PB and PS for $300.00! It had about 65,000 miles on it. Wish I still had it!
In '69 took a used '68 Charger home to see if my mom was interested in it... she liked it, but Dad said too much money... metallic turquoise, white vinyl top, white vinyl interior... gorgeous... 318 automatic...
Judging these cars based on top speed is ridiculous. These cars were geared for quarter mile times, not running full boogie at Daytona raceway. The final drive ratio makes all the difference.
I totally agree! I had a 1969 Plymouth Suburban (Fury Station Wagon) with a stock 318 (230hp) 2 bbl with headers and 2 1/4" dual exhaust and factory 2.94:1 gears in an 8 3/4 open diff. It would top out at 135 mph and would stay neck and neck with my buddies Dodge Daytona Turbo Z which also had a 135 mph top end. It now has a 500hp 440-6 with an 8 3/4, 3.91:1 Sure Grip and 26" tall tires. It turns 12.9 sec. 1/4 miles. I've never tried top ending it with this set up and with the penalties these days, have not intention of doing so.
Yep, all these cars would run 140 - 155 MPH with correct gearing...
In the 70's I built a 32 Plymouth hot rod with a 1957 392 Hemi 10 sec 130 mph 1/4 mile street legal car Raced all these cars great memories great video thank you
Never under estimate the Early Hemi engine, the motor that invented "Top Fuel Racing",get real, get Mopar !
My favorite is 1969 Super Bee 440 Six Pack
Hurst used 68 Dart GTS for the LO23 Hemi Darts and 68 Barracuda for the BO29.
The top speed is related to the rear end, the tires and the body.
My 70 V-code 4-speed Charger had a Dana 3.54 : 1.
I installed a 8 3/4 with 2.94 : 1 and it did 60 mph at 2500 rpm. The top speed was never tested on the road here in Scandinavia.
Superbird and Daytona Charger has the best potential for top speed of the muscle cars.
They left out the 69 1/2 Super Bee, 69 Dodge Charger, and 70 Hemi Cuda with TorqeFlight transmission. I think they would have out performed some of the one's shown.
On the NASCAR racing circuit in 1970 the owners of the Fords & Chevrolets issued formal complaints because they were at a disadvantage against Plymouth & Dodge. NASCAR ruled that Plymouth & Dodge have restrictor plates installed under intake carb to give a fair chance to the other shitty cars.
The Hemi Cuda, 1970 - 1971 models were my favorites. Great video
Cool, thanks 💖💖👌
71 all the way!
I remember doing 135 in a 70' Roadrunner 383.
I would do more
It should be a little faster if it had the standard 3.23 differential.
That 1967 Coronet was the fastest Muscle Car I ever owned! Couldn't keep a motor mount in it. Had to buy a length of wire rope (cable) and Crosby clips to wrap around the mount to hold the engine in place! Fun to Street Race in those days!
Man, no way he just said the fastback was goofy, completely uncalled for, I own a 66, that car was introduction to the car we love now.
It's a very underrated car, especially the 67's, but I won't let anyone put my car down because I know a got a good looking, rare car.
I think they look great!
@@scrapplepig I know right, they are so sexy looking, the 66-67 Chargers.
The announcer is a weirdo, the first year chargers were awesome. I loved them when they were introduced.
@@YeOldeTowneCryer Exactly man, only 37,344 66 Chargers were made and in 67 they only made 15,788.
Here's something to put into perspective, there were more 68 Chargers R/T's made than all 67 Chargers ever made, and the last thing is, there were more 68 Chargers made than all 66-67 Chargers produced.
So next time someone says something bad about the first gen, just say, if there was no 66-67 Charger, there would be no Daytona, no General Lee, no Fast, Furious, no Bullitt. If this text was too long, I'm sorry😅
Meaningless top speed numbers without explaining rear end gearing
Exactly what I was thinking.
all the numbers in the video are crap
My favorite, the 68 Charger R/T, c/w the 440 Magnum Engine, the most beautiful Muscle car ever built !
Thanks I have that same car and love it .
Totally agree. One of the greatest modern automotive designs on the planet. And with performance that equalled its styling. I still recall the first time I saw the movie “Bullit,” where Steve McQueen is at the car wash and the camera pivots to across the street where the bad guys are observing him from their black Charger. That moment where the camera paused on this car remains the most sinister automotive presence in movie history, to my knowledge.
As a street racer in the mid 70's in my youth. The 2 fastest cars in my area of central Ohio were a black 71 hemi cuda with an automatic and a 69 Camaro with the COPO 427, 4 speed and 4.56 gears. Dog dish hubcaps and behind the window on the pillar in blue was "KING KONG". The car was also black. I didn't even try those 2 and I was driving a modified 74 SD-455 Trans Am that ran 12.20's at Street Nights at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio. My guess is those guys were in the 11's.
The 69 Z28 302 6 pack was fast thru the quarter and so were Dusters and Demons with 340. and 440's.
I had thousand of street racing in the 68 thur 70s in ssf cal fast cars l88 Corvette no no no dodge no Plymouth just corvettes
@@tigerboy60 Z28 6 pack NEVER made

great video man ❤
Thanks for the visit
Great video and narrative. Thanks!
Love the 2nd gen. Barracudas ❤
That 117 mph Cuda probably had a 4:10 rear end. I had a 70 GTX with a 4:10, and going 60-65 mph on the hi-way the rpm's we're right up there.
Back in the day I had a 69 Mustang convertible with the 302 engine but my buddy had your number 1 pick, 68 Charger with the 440 engine......he was constantly slowing down for me to catch up.
#1 Dodge charger beautiful, WOW fast!
Back in the late 60s, to early 70s , Chrysler had a Brochure with all the hot rods and the specs! They said that the 340 cuda 6 pack was the fastest from 0 to sixty, quarter mile and top speed! Not a hemi in anything was as fast as the cuda 340/6pack ! I didn’t want to believe but that’s what it said!
They must have been pulling those top speed numbers out of their ass.
In 1968, my cousin had a 1967 Plymouth GTX with a 440. He might have "hopped it up" a little more, but I remember riding with him one day when he floored it and buried the peg about 15mph past 160!! Those cars would FLY, and a 160mph speedometer was fully used!!! BELIEVE ME!!
It was a 150 mph speedo, " Believe Me "
we dont believe you
The standard 150mph speedometer came out in 1970. It was called " Rally Instrument Cluster".
Rear end gearing=top speed
A fascinating video of MoPar muscle cars. Top speed is largely dependent on rear axle ratio. And horsepower, of course. A lot of these cars had the drag-pak, with 4.10 gears, which severely limited top speed - especially since none of them had over=drive transmissions. I had a '67 GTX, with the 440 and 4-speed, Dana 360 rear axle with 3.54 gears. It would do 150 mph - at least that's what the speedometer read, and it did to go 150. And the needle did reach 150. There was a lot of front end lift at high speed, which made me nervous, and I seldom pushed it past 135. If I was soft on the loud pedal, it would actually get 15 mph. Of course, I was seldom in that mood. I didn't get it for economy. I loved that 440, but always opined that I should have opted for the HEMI, which was about a $650 option. MSRP was about $3500.
Love the Darts and Super Bees🎉. MOPARS RULE !!
The ft/lbs of torque on all of these are insane !! Ck the numbers..
I grew up with these cars when they were new. There are so many vague and erroneous misstatements in this video that I am not even going to start on them. Do your own homework if you are interested in this topic.
I can only guess that some of those lower top speeds are related to gearing. I got my 1968 Plymouth Fury III up to 110mph on Queens Highway 401 back in 1974. And there were 4 of us in the car.
As a boomer I was in my teens when muscle Mopars ruled Woodward Ave.
Even in my small town, a guy could graduate high school and sign on with a local industry, and after a year or so have good enough credit to take out a loan to buy one of these cars.
It’s no wonder a lot of us now want to go back to that era. But wishing will not make it so. Unlike the guys who quit their education at 18, I toughed it out financially to acquire some of the knowledge that enabled the USA to be #1 in that time - whether landing a man on the moon or building cars whose performance was attainable by 18-yo’s here but in Europe required an income in the millions to equal.
It’s convenient to blame immigrants or communists for the abandonment of small towns like mine by manufacturers who either went under or sourced their components globally.
This country bested the Europeans back in the early part of the industrial era, because doing things differently here was not looked down upon in the USA as it was by the aristocratic societies in Europe and Asia.
Now it is the USA’s turn to regain its leadership through innovation, optimism, and the awareness of its younger generation that a well-paying career cannot be taken for granted, but requires a willingness to tough it out and compete on the global market, using America’s huge advantages in geography, industrial/military power, and most of all, its human assets. Our ace in the hole is that our tarnished system still offers opportunities unheard of among our totalitarian competitors. Unlike them, the common Joe still has a say.
If we have learned anything since Mopars raced to the Vanishing Point, it is that isolation breeds bitterness, while innovation is what we do better than anyone. The other side of that coin is we can’t coast on past achievements, but must create our own. As Rocky would say, “Go for it!”
I love sleepers. Very sneaky!
The 64 GTO was THE FIRST muscle car!!............according to GM's marketing department....Yet it did nothing on the NASCAR tracks and little on drag strips......The 64 Plymouth dominated NASCAR, winning the team title and and finishing in the top three spots in the Daytona 500..........
That fury ...is furious mean car ....💯💪💣
What about the “Wing Cars”, the Plymouth Superbird and the Dodge Daytona?
I had a 1986 Charger with a 383 4 Barrel in YELLOW! The paint faded quickly to a sick yellow but it would GO!
No one expected my dad's '68 polara convertible to be a muscle car, but little did they know when he bought it, he had the dealer swap the drive train from a (coronet?) wagon demo that an older lady had bought from the showroom. She got the "standard" 383, trans and rear end from his Polara and in return, he got the 440 magnum from hers. A slight modification later to the six-pack carb, headers, and fully independent dual exhaust and he had the fastest car in the neighborhood when I was growing up in the 70s/80s. Unfortunately, it was ripped apart by the catastrophic failure of the front u-joint that dropped the drive shaft into the pavement somewhere around 50mph.
That 440 six-barrel was kill!
I had a few of them.64baracuda.65belvaeder.wagon too..66satlite.67satlite
67polara.65dart.
Gotta have my Mopar!
You better get a taxi voucher cause mopar doesnt make a car
My 67GTX 440 easily topped 150 on the speedometer and was still climbing on the tach when I ran out of freeway, it was my favorite American car, including my 69 Super Bee and 68 Chevelle 396,350hp.
130 maybe
@@adcoxrobert3786 my 440 was overbored .60,holley 750carb and Holly single plane manifold, headers and Mallory dual point ignition, with far more power than the stock 440

68 charger I had one but mine was a base model wish I still had it
SUPERBIRD / DAYTONA HELLO ?
Quite right. He mentioned them is passing but 503 Daytonas and 1935 of all variants of the Superbird did not make them qualify as volume cars
It's likely that any Daytona or Superbird with highway gears would crack 150 mph
I owned a goofy looking 67 HEMI charger for 20 years. One night I toke it out on I70 and opened it out, 145 mph and I had to get off before I got in trouble. This was in 1970 right after I got the car. 426 auto on the tree, no center console.❤
I like the 1971 Hemi Cuda too.
Had a 68 RR 383, put headers on it straight pipes with GTO resonators at the end of the exhaust, Installed 430 gears and a short Hurst shifter. Rebuilt carb, Installed a Mallory distributor and all associated parts. Installed 12" ripple Walls in the rear. Had it dynoed and was putting out 410 hp at the wheels. There wasn't a 440 around that could touch me and I beat most auto hemi's! Track times were in the low 12's.
410 at the rear wheels Hahahahahhahaha.....bullshit
We should have bought big block motors by the crate load back then. Probably get a complete engine for $1200-$1500 actually I would have bought a bunch but I was 4 in 70’. I’ll never forget seeing all types of muscle cars running around, there was a 426 Belvedere that sat on the turnaround on my block forever. IDK who’s it was or where it went
I absolutely LOVE the 66-67 Chargers. Shame on you for calling it goofy. (Although I'm a sucker for the 68 Charger too)
Got back from Vietnam In Dec 1968. Went a bought 68 Road Runner Hemi for less than 3 k. No Chevrolet ever.passed it
I got back in "69 & could only afford the 383. At least I was able to order any option I wanted because at the time the cars were built in Los Angeles.
You forget to mention both Aero cars, Daytona and Superbird. They topped at around 165 mph in Hemi engine and it's the fastest muscle car you can buy during that day.
he mentioned them by saying he wasn't going to add them because of how limited they were
Just for info I bought a 1967 GTX in 1969 if I recall. It was a 440 an automatic and had a 323 sure grip 8/34. Coming back from Nevada when I don"t think they had speed limits in certain areas> i pegged the 150 MPH speedo. Doesn't mean I really was going that fast but probably close. Though it did cost me a kind of broken torqflite. But at the time the 5 year 50,000 mile warranty was there. Got new or more likely rebuild tranny form Chrysler at 46,000 miles😊
Think that was the shift that would cast the block, at the foundry..
68 hurst dart “hold my beer”
A 383 4 speed Dart would be the perfect granny road burner 😆 them groceries are in a hurry !
1968 Charger. Sleek, elegant, looked fast even sitting parked in a driveway.
I had one, red with black vinyl roof. Loved that car. Should have kept it but oh well. Now I can buy one for about 200 times what it cost me new.
Thanks for selling it I have it now.

68 and 69 GTX went 170 mph. I know cause I owned them. 440 six pack for which we put the two 4 barrel carbs. Was a monster.

The 1968 Dodge Charger was one of the most beautiful and powerful cars ever made. A 1968 Charger with a Hemi engine is automotive perfection.
Why no one mention the e49 or hemi pacer which i own one stock as a kid in the 80s i used to punch it off the end of the speedo and its only a 6 cylinder they were hated buy gm and ford and even mopar history wants to forget them :(
All the Hemis..were monsters but there were other monsters out there as well not just hemis..
68 charger is Sophia Loren bo Derrick and Margo robbi with ADDITUDE nothing is prettier I was a senior in high school 1981 and I loved her,383 magnum my brother told me never sell this car of course i was broke I sold it . He was right.
I like the 1971 Hemi Cuda
well I have a 1969 so I believe your story.
The '68 Charger is the prize of the pack.
Okay. Two things: The 426 hemi Mopars from the factory were disappointing for street racing. They had only average low end torque and needed to be specially tuned and adjusted by a mechanic who knew how. They didn't get going until after 60 mph and from stoplight to stoplight the 440s beat them, as did the big block Corvettes and several others.
You left out one of the very quickest factory muscle cars of the era; the 1970 Buick Gran Sport GSX w/the 455 Stage One engine. It had 510 ft/lbs of low end torque for exceptional off-the-line acceleration. But the problem back then were the tires the muscle cars came with; not nearly enough traction to deal with the power.
I had a 72' Roadrunner where the speedometer went to 150 MPH and I had it bouncing past that number several times. It only had a 340 engine but was geared for high speed. Did great on straight roads not so good on curves, When I went to sell it a guy wanted to buy it for his sons first car and I would not sell it to him. I did not want to read about his sons death in the papers.
A family member has a '70, or '71 Challenger ...same color as you have here ...383 engine 😅
1968 charger i had one
I had a friend with a Super Bee. It had a 440 Six Pack and a Hurst shifter! It wouldn't sit still!
Really miss my 69 Plymouth Roadrunner in Blue.
'70 Challenger is the best looking & fastest 0-60 of these 10 cars. All of these are so HUGE. Yopu should've listed curb weights of each !
I need to make more money. 😅 Love to get a Hemi '68 Charger. Swap a cam, lifters and re-jet the carbs and terrorize the neighborhood.
In the 80 a was 17 years old n I got my first car a 69 charger rt 440 4 speed pay $65 dollars 😂 good memories is the one on the photo now I am 60 n I still driving the rt

I still like the 67 Charger better because we had one.
I had a 68 Charger with a 440 that did right around 150 mph on the highway. A Roadrunner challenged me and I would not let him pass my front door until paranoia from thinking about police dropped me down quickly. Virginia was no place to get into that kind of trouble. Also the narrator fails to mention rear end gearing which many guys went to the Dana 60 or something like that.
Theres no way a 71 Hemi Cuda is slower at 117 than a 70 Hemi RT Challenger at 134.. cars had identical drive trains and same weight..

Barracuda ...best name ever 😅
The '69 'cuda just did not have the looks of the '70 and later models !!.
If a hemi cuda top speed was 117, it must have a low geared rear axle. My 68 charge could push the speedo past 125 but it had a 323 rear axle,
My brother had a 69 barracuda coupe with a stock 340 that could easily bury the 160 mph speedometer.
bullshit
Back in the early seventies my brother liked Chevys. He started driving cars home from auctions for a friend. He happened to get behind the wheel of a 69 Barracuda coupe with a 340 4speed. Coming back on the Interstate he opened it up and quickly buried the speedometer. When he got home he bought the car and became a Mopar fan. I was with him on short stretches of rural roads where he would hit 150. I am not a Mopar fan. I use to drive a street/strip 69 Mach1 that would turn low 12s in the quarter.@@chadhaire1711
Who did the research, I had a '73 340 Duster, I got into a race with a '71 Road Runner. My speedometer went only to 120.His went to 150, he said we topped out around 135. I know because I was there.
Does this guy know that you can get different rear axles in cars??????????????
Cuda of course 😊
Speaking of the ‘68 Charger, I learned on another video that the Mustang driven by Steve McQueen in Bullitt needed some performance upgrades so it could keep up with the bad guy’s Charger on the highway which was equipped with the 440 Magnum instead of the 426 Hemi.
68 dodge charger hemi was king
What about buick gsx stage 1

Top speed is very dependent of rear differentials
I didn’t think the 66 and 67 Chargers were ‘goofy looking’.
