- Concept2 Rower vs. BikeErg vs. SkiErg - The Cardio Gold Standard Trifecta
In this video I complete the Concept2 Trifecta and add the BikeErg to my home gym. I unbox and assemble the BikeErg then share what I like best about each Concept2 machine.

Being a skin cancer survivor myself, I can only wish you all the best in your recovery man! Thanks for you hard work
Thanks so much and great to hear you’re good. I got really lucky because my dermatologist caught it early.
Glad to see you’re okay man! Cardio is so important and overlooked! Need that skierg!!
Thanks so much, LGG! It makes cardio about as fun as cardio can be.
Love the rower. Pre-Crossfit, maybe a gym had 2 of them, but I never had to wait since rarely in use. If someone was rowing hard, you could almost guarantee person was an Ivy Leaguer and on the crew team or club. It took a long time for C2 to really get huge. There were years no one was imitating them so I say amen to not taking a knockoff.
The first gym I worked in (2003-2007) the Rowers were never used. I think we had 2 Concept2 and 1 water rower. Like you said, always available.
The next couple gyms I worked in, (2012-2017) the Concept2 rowers were much more popular and usually all taken. A lot of people playing that dang Fish Game.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews I was just reading about their company history. I didn't realize the company was so young the first time I used one. Probably 1984 (9th grade) at a racquetball and Nautilus health club (a popular way to do a gym back then). Love the rower, but mountain biking even more. Plus it is shady. More importantly, glad you found it early. Be well!
@@briand5047 my hometown has a racquetball club. Up until Anytime Fitness opened a few years ago, it was the only gym that’s ever been in the town other than Curves. It was a cool place to train when I was a teenager…a Universal Station, Squat Rack, Bench Press, and just a couple other pieces of strength equipment, but a lot of cardio equipment.
Thanks so much, Brian. I certainly feel fortunate.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews After I went to that health club, a World Gym opened in my hometown, which was great. Gaspari trained there, but I never saw him. Plus he wasn't always there since he trained a lot with Haney. I was only there a few months, then trained at a friend's for a few years. Commercial gyms are horrible after work,(especially back then with so few hardcore gyms) so switched to mornings - a few ok gyms, a few great ones. I thought all the racquetball places were gone by then! Was that the Universal with the stations?
@@briand5047 if I remember correctly, it had a bench press, shoulder press, and leg press. I think my dad has one in his basement too…but it’s been so long since I’ve seen it.
Great video as always. I also have the Rowerg. It’s great, but like you, I don’t use it all that often. Always feel way better about myself on days that I do use it though.
Hoping for a speedy recovery for you mate!
Thank you and good to hear you like it.
Tomorrow is a day off from lifting, so I’ll use all 3, and like you said, I’ll feel glad that I got some cardio in.
I really appreciate it.
Perfect timing. Been thinking about selling my Rogue Echo and pick up a BikeErg.
The Echo Bike is much more sturdy and unshakable, but over 3 years ago I wished I got the BikeErg instead of the Echo…finally made it happen. If you switch them out, please let me know if you like the BikeErg better.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews BikeErg will be here Thursday!
@@tribaltek I’ll be interested to hear what you think and if you like the BikeErg better.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviewsWaiting for some pedals to show up so I can swap and clip in, but just a few rides with normal gym shoes and I'm digging it. There is definitely a learning curve with the damper. But so far, two thumbs up!
@@tribaltek that is great to hear! Thanks so much for letting me know. Hopefully the new bike pedals make you like it even more.
I have all 3. I like the bike best for when I want to do easy cardio. I love them all though, Concept make brilliant machines.
@@SwindonRunner very cool. Of the 3, I find myself using the bike the most.
The trifecta! Great video man. I've used the rower before but not the others. I had a fan bike and hated it too, and currently have a spin bike, but don't use it often. I just got the Xebex Trekker 4000 delivered today and plan on reviewing it. It looks to be right up my alley because I like doing sled drags and walking on an incline treadmill for GPP/cardio. Btw, idk why I never thought to open the box outside and carry it inside piece by piece. Today, I dragged the 150 lb box inside off a pallet 😂 This is why you're the hackmaster! 😅
I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on the Trekker. At some point, I might try to get that or something similar.
lol! I know we’ve both had our issues with elbow tendonitis and a lot of my flare ups come from moving heavy equipment…piece by piece has become very necessary within the last year.
I use my Jump Rope, Airdyne 7 and my VersaClimber for cardio. The VC is insane.
That’s a good combo.
Sorry man
I can't see paying over 1K for a cardio piece.
I have a $450 stationary bike and it meets my cardio demands just fine.
I paid way more than I wanted for it and feel like I splurged paying that amount so no way could I see paying 3 times that.
Nice pieces to have I guess but I wouldn't know as I will never have one unless someone gives it to me and I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen in the real world. Haha
Great video, you always deliver the info for potential buyers
Take Care
I agree, they are quite expensive. Luckily, they will last me the rest of my life, my wife uses them, and I’ll be able to recoup a lot of my money if I ever sell them.
Thanks so much for watching the video and I really appreciate it.
The bikeerg is on my wishlist. Its just so pricey and you cant find them used. There are too many other things i want to spend my money on so might be awhile before i actualoly get one lol
It was on my wishlist for a while too. However, like you said; there were way too many other things I wanted to get before the BikeErg.
This is great! Are you able to do a detailed comparison between the BikeErg with the Echo Bike and spin bikes?
Thanks so much! I sold the Echo Bike and I probably won’t be adding another bike for a while.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviewssorry I meant just based on your experience. It would help people make informed purchasing decisions and there aren’t a lot of direct comparisons out there. I understand you no longer have the Echo and Sunny bikes.
@@jamestonbellajo I really appreciate your comment. Based on how this video performed, I’m not sure I can dedicate the time and energy to a similar topic.
I'm curious about the xebex ski erg
I would definitely like to see the two side by side.
Try getting diy Olympic flat bench press and diy vertical leg press
The vertical leg press really bothers my back. In one of Levergym Hack videos and one of my Smith Machine videos, I show a vertical leg press hack, but it’s not something I would do on a normal basis.
ooohhh...you sold the hip thrust?? and the wife didnt whoop you?? lol..
I had been trying to sell it for a while. I asked and asked until she finally gave in. As soon as she tried the bike, I got the impression she wasn’t too mad at me.
Another great review, thank you
Really appreciate it. Thank you.
Unfortunately, I'm extremely disenchanted with Concept2 machines, i have all 3, the rower never gave me problems so i can only praise it but the bike has given me problems, after many attempts of fixing it with Concept2 directions they decided to replace it, great, unfortunately the replacement also has problems, and now the monitor (wich is from the 1st bike) is also giving errors and doesn't record lifetime meters, in the meantime the Ski erg i had ordered before the problems has arrived, great so i can use it while the bike doesn't get fixed or replaced, well not really because theres also some sort of loud clanking/ banging sound and vibration inside it when i pull the handles, so cant use it either, im waiting for Monday to spend another week of trying to fix this one that one and the other with Concept2, or replace it... all in all either Concept2 isn't as good as they're supposed to be or im the unluckiest guy ever, 3 defective machines back to back, praise to the rower, the most used one and not a single strange sound or any kind of defect, knock on wood.
I’m really sorry to hear that. So far, all 3 of my machines have performed without issue.
I hope Concept2 gets everything taken care of for you, but I know the machines getting fixed won’t change the headaches they’ve caused.
@HomeGymHacksandReviews hey brother thanks for your reply, yes I've been extremely anxious as this was an enormous amount of money to try to improve myself but cant use it and only have headaches, I have spent more time disassembling and reassembling that bike than actually using it, and then replacing the new one and now the Ski... im very sad and wish I never bought them, anyway hope yours doesn't give any issues and performs as it should.
Thank you for the video 👍
@@20Kilogram since starting this channel, I’ve had a couple of frustrating purchases, so I know where you’re coming from. And you’re right, any Concept2 piece is a major purchase with the expectation the money you’re spending should result in defect-free performance.
If you have a chance, please let me know how everything goes.
@HomeGymHacksandReviews Yes, I also got a Rogue Echo V3.0 with a clunking pedal just 2 days ago, i cant deal with it and i just put it for sale cheap, i dont even care about the money i just dont want it in front of me reminding me of more bad luck and failure.
I'll get back to you in a few days, from Monday I'll be talking to Concept2 again, i'll let you know the outcome 👍
Update, spoke to Concept2 again, now I just speak directly to one of their employees on a WhatsApp number since there's so much happening, it was agreed to replace the SKIerg and also the PM5 of the BIKEerg, there's also a new pop sound on the BIKEerg but I didn't even mention as I'm quite simple tired and sick of mentioning problems and issues with these machines, keep in mind the BIKEerg that has a sound that I didn't mention is already the second one, it's a replacement as the first one was also giving problems, I admit I regret buying these, although gotta give credit where credit is due, the ROWerg has been a champion, the most used machine is the one that never ever bothers me, not a single hint of a issue not a single sound nothing, perhaps Concept2 should stick to rowing machines., anyway I hope the Ski replacement is working as it should... im tired of assembling and disassembling Concept2 machines and opening them up to try their solutions...
Cheers broski
I don’t know why, but I hate riding the bikes. I’ll walk/jog on a treadmill or use the elliptical, but the bike cardio always seems so boring to me, so we got rid of our spin bike and got a rower. Great video man!!
I would definitely take the rower over the bike. Thanks so much!
I echo your sentiments on the Rogue Echo bike EXACTLY! It was a happy day carrying out of my basement and onto the flatbed of the buyer's truck! Great review!
lol! That’s funny to hear. Thanks so much, TB!
Its funny how different people are. I dont mind spinning or walking on a treadmill. I do 30min 5 days a week. AND before giving myself off weekends I use to do it 7 days a week. If you get tired of those remember me..Ya know...Birthdays Xmas and whatever other days lol..
I remember you got that really good deal on your bike. I will definitely keep you in mind 🤓
I commend you on surviving skin cancer! That is a tough battle. I appreciate the insight from this video. I have the SkiERG and the RowERG already, and I am very torn on whether to get the Rogue Echo Bike or the BikeERG as my third piece of cardio equipment.
I appreciate that. Luckily, mine was caught early so I only needed surgery.
It’s a tough call. I like the BikeErg because there are some days when I want to completely rest my upper body. However, if you want one of the hardest forms of cardio ever and an absolute tank of a machine, it’s the Echo.
All three great options that can have wonderful benefits especially for those rehabbing injuries or in need of cross-training options.
Very true. It’s nice to finally have a cardio machine that excludes using the upper body (hopefully I won’t need it for rehab) but it’s great to give the upper body muscles a rest.
The one thing I did without regret to my bike erg is replace the seat with a more comfortable and wider option. Game changer!
I find the seat more comfortable than the Echo Bike’s seat, but if I ever decide to extend my rides, I will definitely follow your suggestion and swap it out. Thanks so much.
What do you think is the best cardio for cutting fat as a bodybuilder after bulk?
The one you enjoy to do for an extended period of time. For me, that would probably be the bike.
Walking on a treadmill at an incline or simply walking outdoors is another good option.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews it's really hard for as a skinny fat genetics. 100% of sugar, fast food and oily food directly goes to the love handles. And I cannot burn out myself so I recover within 24 hrs.
I've built a good chest, delts and back. Now I also have to work on conditioning.
