In The Thick Of It is extra good for Lily because it helps her get to her second Discipline faster. It's also especially good if you're playing Down The Rabbit Hole because it allows you to put in 3 level 1 cards that you can upgrade (Brand of Cthugha)
Finished a TFA run just yesterday with a friend playing it for the first time. We were Lily and MJack. I know our priorities are usually a bit skewed due to player count, but after this run, especially with Scarlet Keys in, Lily might've reach top tier for me. Her LV0 deck got so much stronger with cards like String of Curses and the easy 1xp upgrade to that dumbdumbbrokenbroken Runic Axe that the first two scenarios were kinda trivialized. Also, it'll take some convincing for me to ever play her again without 2x Scene of the crime + 2x Let me handle this. And once you get your Martyr's Vambrace online, the feeling of ultimate protection and being able to test at 5 foot/brain on a lot of late game treacheries is magnific. Last but not least, a card I could've never imagined would so powerful, mostly because of the promise of Astral Travel's unrestricted movement being so strong: Ethereal Slip is so good on non-rogues that it's ridiculous. Of course you gotta be a little bit campaign savvy about it, and it's not always gonna be better than Astral Travel, but boy oh boy, when it is, it's 4 actions worth of testless "this is for all the autofails you've given me, you mean mean game." Sorry about the giant comment, guess I had a lot of fun with Lily in this playthrough, and it was quite serendipitous to wake up to this video today haha Love the channel! Also, nice bulking, Travis, keep it up!
I've been running a Runic Axe Lily through Innsmouth and it's been a lot of fun. I think Lily works best when you just make her a 5 fist Guardian from the start and give her good weapons to use. Arcane Initiate works really nice with her (esp with taboo'd Renfield) because it can grab Razor, Ward, Deny Existance, and I think very cutely it can also grab Explosive Ward. I have not once played Explosive Ward for the effect, but two fist icons on a spell I can just draw with initiate and commit to a Runic Axe test is fantastic.
Try mind Lily, it`s also lots of fun. Holy Rosary, Renfield, possibly upgraded Bandolier - and her battle potential with, say, azure flames, explodes. Different mind-based spells also help with Dragon pole. Later on, Cyclopean hammer + enchant weapon, and she becomes a weapon of annihilation. Or stick with Dragon Pole, enchant weapon combines with it perfectly Most importantly, mind Lily, in my opinion, is way better for clue finding. Either Sixth sense for solo, or Claivoyance/Rite of seeking for helping your team with clues. Strength-based Lily is much less viable in finding clues, unless you add things like Scene of crime/Drawn to the flame/Evidence/etc, which are... Alright, but extremely unreliable in solo and situational in multiplayer Oh, and the healing. Healing of the mind discipline is just very addicting. Especially in long scenarios. In comparison, it recharges much easier than fist discipline, if you happen to use it
@@ПавелНевмержицкий-ъ6г Oh that's a fair point! In this case, I was playing Lily as main fighter because I paired her with Trish, so clues have not been an issue whatsoever. Right now I've got the upgraded Bando plus Butterfly Swords and a single Enchant Weapon for either the Axe or the Swords. Willpower was the second discipline I took and it has been fantastic as well. Fully upgraded Runic Axe is so powerful on its own- it can be a 2 or 3 damage weapon that heals you, draws you cards, lets you get free move actions, and even gets you clues.
I used Quiescence of Thought in the first Lily deck I built, as the first discipline. It's very strong. I went very heavy on skills, so was emptying my hand frequently. Also ran level 3 Grete Wagner as my ally, so was rocking 4 intellect most of the time and was picking up clues when enemies weren't around. Enraptured was one of my key skill cards too, to drop extra charges on the level 3 Enchanted Blade.
Just a quick note: adding Disciplines beyond the one you start with is optional, not required. The first one is mandatory, but after that, you *may* add one for every 15 xp earned.
I will say in my experience, you should pretty much always add them when given the chance, except maybe the book one. Lily is fine with one Discipline but she really pops off with 2 or 3.
@@StyxTBuferd I agree completely, but some folks want to avoid adding cards to their deck as much as possible and/or adding any weaknesses for the slight bump in consistency, so it's worth noting that additional disciplines are not mandatory.
Personal additions for this starting deck: 1) In The Thick of it is an extremely great permanent for starting Lily deck - not only it speeds up getting the second discipline, it also allows to take some busted tools (upgraded bandolier, upgraded safeguard, etc) which may help her and her team a lot. Or just reliably get the Stick to the plan after the first scenario, for the build stability 2) Two "Prepared for the worst" seems to be an overkill, better to replace at least one of them with Machete/Runic axe, or other suitable cards. Even if you leave one copy in the deck, it`s probably moreso for the Stick to the plan as you gain the necessary experience, so that you get your weapon reliably, especually if you aim for the cyclopean hammer centered build Same with emergency cache. Most of the time you will not be spending resources that much to make two of these worthwhile. Personally think Uncage the soul is better, as it can be used as 2 pip mind for finding clues, etc. 3) Two enchanted blades seem to be an overkill. Its not that bad of a weapon, but mostly just a replacement for dragon pole, unless A) you don`t get your arcane slots filled ASAP, or B) you have bandolier as well 4) I also personally like the azure flame. Base value goes to 4 with the discipline and to 7 with a combination of holy rosary, david ranfield and upgraded bandolier. Overall, it is great even with one rosary, for example, and perfectly works later on with the foot discipline for numerous attacks in one turn. 5) There are some variations depending on whether you want to play solo or in multiplayer. For solo play Sixth sense works much, much better than Clairvoyance, but it just doesn`t work as well in multiplayer 6) Deny existence - personally find it unnecessary. With Lily`s mind discipline, she can soak some damage without being overly cautious about surviving. Other effects are overly situational to take extra cards that may clutter your starting hand 7) I would replace Promise of power with Guts. Yes, you may find it harder to pass certain foot or book skill checks, but barely ever you need it that much, especially with the curse token that may screw you later. Card draw from Guts, in comparison, works spectacularly and really helps in early game 8) Wait a second... "Knife"? Not a "Survival knife", at least? Just... Why?
I'll go against some of your suggestions. I think Deny Existence is invaluable in Lily, at least if you're starting out with the fight discipline, because her 7/7 is somewhat vulnerable for a fighting character. Deny is a lot like Ward in the right deck. I also think that In The Thick of It is kind of just overkill- it's worth taking in pretty much everyone and I think it'd be a bit silly to include it in every list unless a gator cares about trauma, like Vincent/Carolyn. E Cache is also a solid card because of Stick to the Plan, though I like Initiate + Voice of Ra. I definitely agree with dropping Prepared for the Worst- I usually think running 2 more weapons is better than digging for a weapon. I had Sweeping Kick, Ever Vigilant, and E Cache 2 on my STTP, and between Runic Axe and Butterfly Swords (with bando) with 2 Spectral Razors in the deck I didn't really need to worry about not having a weapon. I also agree Guts > Promise of Power. And yeah, not sure what Knife is doing here haha.
@@StyxTBuferd About Deny existence - you have a point. Judging from the starting deck presented here, I understood it as the Mind discipline-based build (mainly because of Claivoyance, also Holy rosary, David). If you build her as fight-discipline based main fighter, abilities of Deny existence are much more important. But I feel like in that case, quite a number of cards here should be swapped as well (for example, replacing Claivoyance with Scene of crime, Holy rosary with Grete; etc.) In the Thick of It is a bit of an overkill on other characters, but on Lily getting that sweet-sweet second discipline, say, one scenario earlier, may just be game-changing E. cache - true, i also like to run it with the STTP, although second copy in the deck is certainly overkill. Also, if i`m going for the runic axe or cyclopean hammer centered build, Prepared for the worst becomes viable enough to put one in the STTP - just to reliably get that monstrosity in your hand
Great video love the approach of comparing best cards to the investigation by campaign. Can you do one of these for Ashcan Pete? How about adding investigator cards from the standalone adventures?

Hi, Neil! They actually already have one: ruclips.net/video/4MKnv2cwlDM/видео.html
Wish Eater seems soooo good... but I never find room for it.
I've run Wish Eater in Lily and can confirm it's awesome.
Lily is quite the puzzle. Not quite as gimmicky as Lola but far more complex than most.
