Something missed about Daring specifically for Diana (also relevant to Mary) is that you can also use it on the "use head instead of fist/foot" tests from spells, useful for mixed-stat builds.
I would say, not every cancel or ignore effect is equally good for Diana. You want mainly stuff, that works early in a scenario. I agree, Dark Prophecy is great for that. But cards like Flesh Ward I would not consider for her. Too expensive, if you put it in the basement on first use, and not that great of use, in particular spending an arcane slot for it. But in general, this was a very good video for my favourite investigator.
Idea: what about making another video like staples series, but only for Mystics and spells for fight/investigate/evade? Those spells will probably be every mystic video in this series (_maybe_ except Lily Chen). They're all just the same, but you could also discuss the pros and cons for different investigator. It would also be a nice video to share to new players who want to play Mystic for the first time.
For Terrible Secret, you may only use Deny Existence on one of the choices, essentially ignoring 1 of the horror you would take. (The card presents a choice for each card under Diana, so it “cannot be resolved simultaneously.”)
Fun little thing: based on dark insight and terrible secret she is not magical and is canceling effects via the silver twilight. Especially since she's just a store owner, she might not be as redeemed as she appears and might be falling back into her old ways as she's tempted to do whatever evil ritual she does to activate ward of protection.
Always happy for Extended Deck Guide video! :D Even though I don't like Diana, because she looks like my ex-gf (who has cheated on all her boyfriends) - but the experience in watching your videos still was more important to watch the video! You're amazing, guys. I love the content!
One thing you should really consider with Delay the Inevitable is the fact that after you have you blade in play, you can Delay the Inevitable every turn, because DtI cancels damage not at the time of playing, so dagger's restrictions won't apply.
The one time I played Diana (in Excelsior), Empower Self did serious work. I didn't draw cancels (outside of Dark Insight) until halfway through the scenario, so investigating at 5 let me at least do something.
You likely didn't have enough cancel or ignore cards in your deck. At least not enough, that can be easily triggered with not too much opportunity cost.
@@FlarkeFiasco Yes, you can use for instance Empower Self: Stamina on your Shrivelling or Azure Flame to ignore that it would be a brain test, then put it in the basement. However, an asset, that costs 3 resources and a playaction is not the best option to enable her ability.
Is it just me, or did you completely miss the Dragon Pole & Bandolier (2) combo? It`s an awesome combo on Diana. It does most of your fighting for you, without charges, at reasonable XP cost. It also increases your willpower. And you want to play the spells anyway and love the additional spell slot. And most of the new multi-class spells are great on Diana. Because you usually have the option to use a better skill as long as your willpower is low.
I’m playing a true solo Return to Circle undone with her and I’m getting punished! Especially if the difficulty of the tests at the start of the scenario are 4+ and I didn’t get lucky with the initial draw, it feels like I’m losing a couple turns just to get her ready.
(edit because I totally didn't post the wrong comment).. was thinking if teaming her up with joe., but the both dip blue.. which I don't like in 2 character games..
Someone may correct me on this, but I believe because it's an asset in your hand and when you play it, it never has an opportunity to become a treachery card.
@@PlayingBoardGames A weakness with a player card type is never considered an encounter card, just a treachery or enemy. (Or a location, scenario card, act or agenda. But we don't have these kinds of weaknesses yet in the game.) That's why Agnes can't deny existence the horror from her Dark Memory, because it's an event. But Dark Insight specifies Encounter Cards OR Weaknesses, so it could shuffle in weaknesses with player card types as well, like Dark Memory, a tarot asset or Winifred's Arrogance. It's an interesting question. RR Apendix III says: "There are no action windows during setup. Players may only trigger player card abilities or play cards from hand during setup if the card or ability's specific triggering condition is met." But fast events don't need an action window, and the ability specifies: "Play when an investigator at your location draws an encounter card or a weakness.", which would be technically true in step 8 "Draw opening hands", if you draw a tarot weakness. So, I guess, it might be. The question is, if a player card can activate at all before the game starts, if it is not specifically stated, it can. (Like Stick to the Plan does.) I doubt it, but am not sure.
Diana's one of my top 3 favorite investigators, and I just searched her on a whim and found this video, so I decided to give it a watch. I will say it took me a while to figure out what you guys were talking about. Brains and basement... I don't get why you don't use the actual words for these, but maybe it's a local thing or maybe it's just a meme I'm not familiar with. Once I made the adjustment I was able to follow you guys a lot better. Oh willpower! Oh sanity! Basement took me longer until I got the context you were talking about cards placed beneath Diana. Sheesh where's my glossary for this stuff? LOL! Anyhow, nice video for talking about how various cards interact with Diana.
I don't think deny existence would work on terrible secret because it ignores an effect on an encounter card. Terrible secret isn't an encounter card because it isn't in the encounter deck.
@@PlayingBoardGames got it. Thank you for the clarification. I should have checked the Q&A first. Keep up the great work guys. These expanded guides are great.
Diana, one of my favorite investigators, happy to see her here!

This is a great idea.
Upgraded sixth sense plus eldritch inspiration is kind of cute, because you can choose 2 locations to be investigating in addition to your first.
And you have a lot of ways to draw multiple tokens so it’s not like it’s magical Christmas land to draw a face token.
My girl ❤️

Yes, that is case now, but not when this video was recorded and released.
No mention of Summoned Hound? I think the card seems like a lot of fun with Diana and the cards she wants to play anyways.

Could dark insight cancel an opening hand tarot weakness? I had never noticed it cancelled weaknesses so I hadn't thought of this before.
