This is one of the best scenes ever. I never laughed so much in my life . Only discovered All in the family this year and am binge watching . Thank you to RUclips 👍
I love how Archie loses it all and screams "We're gonna start this whole transfaction over!" He always had a way with words, or rather malapropisms, he was the grand master of them.
I'm such a Huge fan of All in the family. I have been since I was a child, this shows shows the true family dynamic the way it was when I grew up. Not like now where men run out on their families and everyone's so consumed with Material things and everyone's such a phony. I raise my children with Good old fashioned values. With above all else Love and Respect
I haven't seen this since its original air date, more than 30 years ago. I remember laughing so hard, I fell off the sofa. It's still the funniest extended comedy bit since "Who's On First". And, as usual with "All in the Family", impeccably performed. Thanks for a wonderful post!
The only thing I don't like about this scene is that Gloria and Mike are being straight bums! They both live in Archie's house, why does Archie have to pay her back for using a plumber to fix something that they ALL use. Mike also is relying on Archie to foot the bill for the ball game tickets...stupid. Still funny as hell though.
All in the Family is the greatest television show of American television. It is nearly 40 years later, and the topics are still relevant and the humor is still funny.
"Transfaction". Ha Ha! Archie's malapropisms are just classic! You just don't see shows like this anymore in this day and age. Now it's just contaminated with political correctness.
For those that have asked what episode this is from: The episode is called "Pay The Twenty Dollars", Season 4, Episode 23 (March 1974). Certainly one of the Top 10 All In The Family episodes, and one of the best scenes from the entire series.
As always, this show was simply great! Great and talented cast, always made people laugh (except for the serious episodes) and overall one of the best shows ever made. Thank you for all the wonderful memories growing up!!!
I love it 💕 I never get tired of watching it's timeless I watched every episode this is so clever you really had to be a genius to write these episodes it was simply great.
I think that you guys have said everything already but I just have to chime in on this one... This is absolute classic television. Early 'All In The Family' was some of the best TV ever.
I am crying with laughter. This trailblazing show had one of the finest actor's ever in Carroll O' Connor. So many episodes that I love from All in the Family.
I totally agree with you. The 70's, economically speaking, was very tough for the majority of the population. There was stagflation-high inflation and low economic growth. There was the energy crises caused by the arab oil embargo of 1973 that caused high prices at the pump. Various stategies were employed by Nixon, Ford and Carter. Ie. wage and price controls, deregulation etc. There was a big recession of 1973 and 1974. Things didn't really turn for the better until 1983.
Mike and Gloria shouldn't even stick their noses in it. Archie and George were happy with the way they resolved their problem. That should have been it. The plumber, the Mets tickets and all that other stuff had nothing to do with this particular issue. Shaddap Mike and Gloria.
Well, he did pay Archie back for living expenses with interest after he graduated (sort of in lieu of student loans), plus he did pick up a part-time job during Archie's Union strike to help out with bills. You are right about the declining quality of TV though.
cheers 2024 BECAME a BIG FAN, from UK best COMEDY SITCOM I EVER seeing I swear, just discovered now andd Iam 58 years old, thoughted I seeing it all ( as I am French /British citizen)🤩🥰💯💌👏👏✌My best CHARACTER OBVIOUSLY IS ARCHIE, Missed these ERA, LIKE HERE IN UK they dont do anymore good old stuff 😥🥺😳🤧
Last night my college math teacher showed us this video to illustrate how knowing math keeps you from getting ripped off, but what I mostly got was how cheap things were in the 70's. $2 for cleaning services? It now costs more than that to go to the laundrymat! $3 for groceries? $5 for pizza? $10 for a plumber? $7 for a baseball game? And they say inflation was bad in the 70's!
...Seemed Meathead always forgot who's roof he was living under & food he was eating..."I'm Gonna Pay you Back Arch!,I'm Gonna Pay You Back Arch!", Why did Mike throw a fit and get so defensive when he ran into money & Archie suggested he pay up a little!!!
This skit was pure comedy GENIUS!! One of my Favorite skits in All in the Family history!! God Bless Carroll O'Conner!!!
35 Years later and still hilarious
This is one of the best scenes ever. I never laughed so much in my life . Only discovered All in the family this year and am binge watching . Thank you to RUclips 👍
Agree, watched them live from television city in New York. Funny bunch.
I loved this show. There isn't anything that is on tv today that can touch this comedy. Genius work.
I love how Archie loses it all and screams "We're gonna start this whole transfaction over!" He always had a way with words, or rather malapropisms, he was the grand master of them.
Mike: Now everybody's square.
Archie: We are?
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great scripts and great acting.
it is impossible to imagine anyone ever playing that role anywhere near as well as O'Connor did. It was a great show.
I wonder how long the actors had to memorize and rehearse this 5 minute scene?Very clever!

From a TV era where writers really knew how to write good material..
Basil, Manuel, Michael Scott, and Archie are still my favourite sitcom characters!!! )))
Fawlty Towers, All in the Family and Yes Prime Minister are the greatest sitcoms of all time.
Easy come easy go. Now this is a TV show worth watching.

RIP to Carroll O' Connor -Archie was the best ever character on tv alongside Redd Foxx in Sanford and Son. All in the Family is so loved and missed.
How on earth is that the same guy from 'In The Heart Of The Night'? Great Actor.
LMFAO....."HOW IS EVERYBODY PAID OFF!!!....."
One of greatest show ever on TV right after the honeymooners
Mike and Gloria shouldn't even stick their noses in it. Archie and George were happy with the way they resolved their problem. That should have been it. The plumber, the Mets tickets and all that other stuff had nothing to do with this particular issue. Shaddap Mike and Gloria.

Great writing on this show.
This video shows you how both parties work: The speak, they argue, they tell you what to do, they don't listen and people have to pay for their mess.
One of the best series ever
And don't forget he lock Archie and himself when they were putting beer away at the bar.
Great show !! They sure don't make em like that anymore. .R.I.P.jean Stapleton. .you will be missed :-(
I love when Archie goes off with how is everybody paid off???? The great Carroll Oconner.
HOW IS EVERYBODY PAID OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A challenger to "who's on first". Oh my God this is good

I've always thought that Archie Bunker was the poster boy for how not to be socially.
Ditto, rofl. one of the funniest scenes ever; TV at it's best.
Great show!😆
Nobody has a fit better then Archie.
Omg Archie is the man. Why don't they make shows like this no more ? Lol
Wonderful! Vyborné!
Yeah, because it is the 20 dollars Archie gave to Edith and he asks for back just before this whole thing.
...Seemed Meathead always forgot who's roof he was living under & food he was eating..."I'm Gonna Pay you Back Arch!,I'm Gonna Pay You Back Arch!", Why did Mike throw a fit and get so defensive when he ran into money & Archie suggested he pay up a little!!!
Brilliant! Absolutely Brilliant!
