    This is totally priceless!!!! Today's TV just doesn't even begin to hold a light to it. I'm so glad I grew up in the 1970's. I have been collecting my favorite TV shows from that decade on DVD. Glad to have the complete set of "All in the Family" seasons in my collection.

    The writers were actually terrified to write Archie's dialogue for this episode, fearing they would offend Sammy Davis Jr. He assured them "I toured with Sinatra for years; you can't say ANYTHING that will insult me!"

    • @sjames304
      @sjames304 7 лет назад +31

      And Sinatra LOVED Davis Jr. Sure, he made off-colored remarks to Davis at times in jest, but he was instrumental in getting Davis into Vegas hotels and showcasing his talent. Man, the world is a lot less good with those two monster-talents gone.

    Carroll O'Connor was a brilliant actor, and Archie Bunker exemplified that. He made Archie an endearing American icon. Everyone loved him. He may have had some ignorant prejudices, but as the series progressed, we learned that they were prejudices that were ingrained in him from his upbringing. He always had a heart of gold. Sammy doing the show was great! Sammy knew the show was a statement about society's prejudices. I wish shows today would be as "politically incorrect", but honest. Great TV.
