    Your plugins tutorials, theoretical aspects and practical applications are exquisite!!! Best on RUclips.
    Please continue and revisit some older waves plugins and groups of selected plugins that work good together.

    I had a chance to use those Chandler compressors, before they were released on sale. An old school friend of mine works at Abbey Road and is pretty good friends with the owner. I think he may have been involved in the process, somewhere down the line.
    As I was more in the "composing/playing" mindset, I took the gear for granted, But he had a few different pieces of hardware that we used in recordings.

      I like the Acoustica products in general for single tracks. I find that they fall apart a bit with complex program material though and the CPU hit makes them a bit too difficult use on larger sessions.

    • @willogburn6158
      @willogburn6158 3 года назад

      @@mixingwithmike I have found using the DAW Reaper helps significantly with the CPU hits and allows you to use many more instances of the Acoustica plugins, Aquas are most of my favorite plugins and I end up using them on everything, I would love to see you review more of them on your channel. Anyhow, thanks for your content, it is consistently top notch. Cheers!

      @@willogburn6158 DAW CPU efficiency always comes with a tradeoff. I cannot speak specifically for Reaper, but every other DAW I have used that runs more efficiently than Pro Tools with plugins sounds worse.

    Great review! I will test this out! Question...did you get a chance to compare this to the “Royal Compressor” from United plugin? Apparently it’s also an emulation of the rs124.

  • @khalilroukoz
    @khalilroukoz 3 года назад +1

    Thanks Mike much appreciated! ,looks like another comp for the collection! I'm just intrigued almost every analog plugin emulations that comes out is referring to 60,70, hardware etc referencing pink Floyd Beatles etc is there any other music groups or genres that these plug companies can reference, feels like always the same pitch ,! just saying

    • @mixingwithmike
      @mixingwithmike  3 года назад +3

      The market is saturated for sure. Ultimately, the best selling point you can have is sound quality. That said, I like having a few versions of the same vintage emulation because they all sound different and that gives me more options in a mix.

I've been using Audio Hijack as a secondary app to record 24-bit PCM audio in parallel with Camtasia since it only records audio in AAC these days. Nice review as always! Hi, I just compared with my old 32 bit original RS124 plugin from Abbey Road. The attack is much better present with the first original RS124 plugin. Can you make a A/B?

    • @mixingwithmike
      @mixingwithmike  3 года назад

      Is that plugin even available anymore? I think they have turned everything over to Waves.

    • @reknefeu5955
      @reknefeu5955 3 года назад

      No, they don't upgrade it to 64 bit because Peter Cobbin, the technical director from Abbey Road validated the plugin version as a perfect emulation and when Chandler released the Hardware Version they don't wanted a 64 bit upgrade to do not stop the selling of the hardware ;-) I still using it with 32 lives...Sorry for my English

    • @reknefeu5955
      @reknefeu5955 3 года назад

      @@mixingwithmike I noticed something, the first plugin endorsed by Abbey Road and Peter Cobbin is not calibrated as the Waves Abbey Road. In the wave version the input is 5 db louder than the Abbey Road. For the same setting there is around +5 db Gain Reduction. After several test, the distortion and color is 99 % same, the 3D and the attack is different. The Attack is more transparent with the Abbey Road but the 3D is more pleasant with the wave

    Hmm, this compressor does sound really nice, but is it just me or does it add a considerable amount of noise (white noise) if the Auto Hold function is switched off? I mean, maybe if Auto Hold is on, it reduces gain, but how does switching off Auto Hold add so much noise?
    Then again we're in the box, so it must be coming out of the plugin? At the same time there is no 'noise' button.. Also, is it possible this noise is added again if 'fuse' is on and thus the Auto Hold doesn't necessarely work??

    • @mixingwithmike
      @mixingwithmike  3 года назад

      I got a bit happy with the pumping and breathing of the compression. Also, the hold was not kicking on the vocal track and that was adding quite a bit of the noise you were hearing.

    It has a huuuge boost on the top end, would this feature be some kind of scam? Or does the real unit has this “EQ” behavior too? Anyone who has tested the real one here? Thank you!

    • @mixingwithmike
      @mixingwithmike  3 года назад +7

      Just ran a series of frequency sweeps through this plugin in a variety of settings. The biggest difference I could find in the high frequency response was + one half a dB at 23K. Not so huge!

    • @Clarity-808
      @Clarity-808 3 года назад

      I didn’t hear that. Maybe you were hearing the drive or the gain difference?

    • @SaturnVoyager11
      @SaturnVoyager11 3 года назад

      @@mixingwithmike I´m using it for mastering and it´s giving me a huge boost in the most higher frequencies which I liked. So I run it through doctor plugin and yep, it has a boost of almost 14db starting from 5k and finishing on 22k where is the bell of the boost. and it takes a little from the bottom end. but definitely it´s a beautiful sounding plugin.

    • @mixingwithmike
      @mixingwithmike  3 года назад +2

      @@SaturnVoyager11 How did you set up the plugin settings? You can't run a frequency sweep because you will get heavy compression on the lower frequencies and none on the higher frequencies. That would fully explain the curve you are seeing.
      Run pink noise into a frequency analyzer with ethe RS124 in between and compare in and out with any setting. You will see a minimal boost at best on the very top end of the spectrum.

      I a/b’d this against the Kush AR-1 and spent time getting each of them in the ball park and also detected a bit of hard or ‘s’ syllabic hype in the upper register with this Waves release. I was able to duplicate that syllabic hype with the AR-1 by pushing the ‘lifting/dark’ pot - obviously in the direction of the ‘lifting’. Otherwise, I felt they could both essentially cover the same ground and both offered that vintage vibe. I thought the Waves was pretty good and I know they aren’t 1 for 1 models but didn’t feel like I was missing too much without it since I have the AR-1 via subscription. They each have particular features that are unique beyond the the original unit(s).
      Mike, that was a killer track you used to demonstrate this plugin. Loved it.
