I really liked my bottle. It’s different than your typical Smokey woody notes. I tasted a fresh picked grape note. Definitely different than any other bottle I have. Great video, I’m always interest in your take on things! Cheers 🎉
Thanks for the honesty. I like malt and hope a local bar has a bottle so I can buy a pour. Your review is actually prompting me to try it. I'm sure the distillery appreciates that.
Matt, legit review. So cool Rabbit Hole sent you the bottle, but even cooler you set aside their coolness to be even cooler with your transparency. Well done sir.
Thank you for your honest review. Been curious about this distiller, your take is helpful. You are also funny as hell and that is appreciated too. Cheers man.
I like the Rabbit Hole Heigold myself. The only Bourbon where I get clear strawberry on the nose. Which is neat. But I would agree it does have a different taste profile than many other bourbons.
That's a hard balance to maintain. You want to have good brand relations, and set a good precedent for other distilleries. but you always got to be true to your viewers. Props for putting out an honest review. If the distillery really wants your feedback, they'll take this and improve the product. And in the end, any PR is good PR.
I also don't want to say, 'I don't like it.' But... I uh... maybe I just need to try it again? Or maybe I could say, 'I want to like it'? Honesty is always the best policy... except when it comes to the wife... so kudos brother on becoming a risky destination for distilleries to send free bottles. Love the videos. The wife and I are big fans.
Thank you Matt both for posting this, and for the content of this video itself. Refreshing and entertaining. The way in which you tell this tale involves us in the internal struggle, really well done.
Just saw you got merch. MAN, you have to work the closing catch phrase onto an ADHD tee. A graphic of you, cigar in mouth, playing the piano with a bottle spilling down the side into your Glenn or something would be hilarious!
I have tried the rye and the Cave Hill bourbon. They were good but not great. I really like the story behind the company. Real American dream type story. I would support the product for that reason .
I love rabbit hole. But I think it’s from the whole experience at the distillery and knowing that they are still a very young company. Give them a few years and their stuff will be what people are hunting for.
I think you're right. I've tried a couple different bottles of Rabbit Hole and I enjoyed both. Poured Rabbit Hole blind for friends and they enjoyed it as well. I was curious about this rye. Good review. Thank you.
I’d be interested to hear how this opens up. Not that I’d expect it to become amazing, but it could develop some of the promising character you noticed on the nose.
I was thinking the same thing. Some neck pours are deceptive. I dislike Woodford Reserve Double Oaked from the neck, but absolutely love it past the shoulder.
Thanks For Keeping It Real Matt....Diesel Cigar's Aged In Rabbit Hole Bourbon Barrels Are Yummy.....Looking Forward To Tonight's Live....Cheers Brotha...
Nice review! I pulled out more fruit on the nose in the review I posted back in March but definitely found those corn and malt qualities too. I'm actually heading down to this distillery today, so your timing is impeccable! I will say, I think the malt notes may be more familiar for scotch drinkers.
@@ADHDWhiskey thanks Matt I hope too! If I can get my hands on something they've got you might like better, I'll reach out. Might be worth a sample swap or something :-)
@@ADHDWhiskey I’m hesitant to purchase this brand as well and you just confirmed my feelings- glorious! I’ve seen videos on Instagram of the owner and he seems a bit snooty like he is trying to reinvent the wheel. It sounds like it’s not working.🤷🏻♂️
Taste is very personal and subjective to the individual. However, I may change it up a bit and try ice or a few drops of water before I would totally push it to the back of my shelf. That said, sometimes it just doesn’t work for you and you need to just step away and tell it like it is. Great review.
I have a bottle of Rabbit Hole Cavehill Bourbon that is pretty good, though I agree with the price point issues. Cavehill is a four grain with corn/wheat/barley/honey malted barley, "matured over 3 years." It does taste a little young but the sweet notes are nice. I do believe that this distillery will be releasing some better things with age in the future, they're just new for now.
Thanks for the honest review Matt. I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on Rabbit Hole but have yet to do it due to it's price point and knowing how many great whiskey's there are around that price and even cheaper. I may still some day but it'll be even longer now....lol
Thanks for being honest. I bought the Rabbit Hole bourbon finished in PX Sherry Cask to pair with a Deisel Rabbit Hole cigar. Paid $75. Not one of my favorite finished whiskeys and would not buy again.
I greatly appreciate the honest review. Being a young distiller I do think there is room for improvement. I'll wait a few years and give it a try. Maybe a 10yr bottle.
I saw a rabbit hole bottle at Meijer for $60.00. I saw it was a 3 year old lower proof non finished bourbon and I thought why would I buy this over 1920 or EJBP, literally the same two you said.
I tried the whole Rabbit Hole line on the recommendation of a local store employee I trust. I liked their rye (Boxergrail). It was also young, but had a lot of spice and really strong dill and caraway flavors (95% rye mashbill) which I enjoyed. Many bourbon drinkers would not like that profile, but I really did. I didn't love the Heigold or the PX finished one. It is worth noting that the PX finished whiskey improved dramatically after being open in the bottle for a month or so; It was a bit musty with some sulfur notes at first but those dissipated with air and time.
Dude, I've watched all your videos and our tastes are similar (I loved the EC toasted, you're crazy lol), and thanks for being honest. Been eyeballing Rabbit Hole and now I'll wait to try it at a bar. Cheers!
I appreciate honesty. Great video. Ok some constructive criticism for Matt. Place your ad blip more towards the middle of the video. Like the part between the nose review and the first sip. At the end seems off timing for me. So keep up the great work pal and ill keep watching. Love the channel

The others didn't really speak to me either. I think you're on track in they have a love/hate taste profile because I know people who are big fans.
Derringer is $80 in my local store. Can buy great sherry finished scotches for that price. I have looked at their bottles multiple times but never pulled the trigger. Guess I may take a chance..

I'll buy a bottle just to support Matt, his honest review, and a young distillery.
