Honestly, I expected this to be a 30 second video with just an intro and then you say, "nope" and then the Patreon credits would roll! But yet you still crammed in some good humor!
I've never seen a bottle of Elmer yet. I passed on a bottle of Blanton's a while back. I think they had $140 on it. I'd rather buy two bottles of 1920.
Recently hit the TriFecta here in VA. ECBP, Blantons, and Eagle Rare, all for retail. (Passed on the Buffalo Trace) We may not get much here in VA, but it's always retail.
Anyone willing to pay 900 for Blantons, please call me. Seriously call me!! LOL I enjoy both of these very much. Hard to find but I feel worth the work at a realistic price. Blantons SFTB is well worth the work to find. Another great review from Matt and Jiminy!!
The cricket is one of my favorite characters. I wish they would do more with him in the series. Well done, Sir! I would never buy either unless I stumbled on them at retail, but nice to hear your notes. Especially about blouses and ski lube....
All I can say is you made this video the day before my birthday 2021. I got both of them for retail like 2 weeks ago 2022, so f that price. Kidding, love the channel, but seriously. My local grocery store must have got there BT alocation, but one bottle per customer per day. I was able to go back over the week and get one bottle each of EH Taylor small batch, Blantons, Wellers Antique 107, Elmer T. Lee, Eagle Rare, and Stagg Jr. all at retail. The same store is now out of all them. I got all of my bourbon hunting karma in one week.
I saw a bottle of elmer going for $400 at my local store, 6 months ago. Matt is like Michael Burry from The Big Short, when Michael said "I may have been early but I'm not wrong".
Both are decent, neither are great. I've had several Blanton's and only one bottle was worth the 60 dollars I paid. And unfortunately Elmer isn't as good as it was 4 or 5 years ago. I've read that its gotten younger yet the price keeps going up. So, take scenic drive's advice and drink wild turket 101 or Old Forester. Both, are better, cheaper, and widely available.
I was going to say that you were wrong because they are both great. Then I realized I hadn't had either one in so long I can't testify to that anymore.
@@johnhunt1725 You can always find a great bottle but that's the nature of single barrel whiskey's. But, for 60 dollars I guess I'm no longer willing to take the chance.
2023 here and prices are still crazy. But happy these prices didn’t come to fruition. Great reviews Got my ETL for $100 and Blanton from $65 to $110 (first one). Think I’ll stick to MSRP only moving forward
I just got a bottle of Blantons up here in Canada, I only had to wait 4hrs in line I got Blantons gold and original and they're both beautiful bourbons
…but is it SMOOTH?!? I have Blantons in the cabinet to get oohs and aahs from pretentious house guests who I need to impress but want to secretly crap on. My Buffalo Trace go-to comes from the Bowman distillery.
I couldn't spend that much on a bottle. But if I did, there's a few 25-30 year single malt scotch whiskies and a 27 year old cask strength Irish single pot still whiskey I would get for that dough.
In northern VA, Blanton's rarely last more than an afternoon on shelves. It's like a status symbol as you see so many people posting crotch shots after waiting in line for one. It's good but I can't imagine paying more than MSRP.
I'm from 2023 and all of the people tried to cash in on their rare bourbons and the market was flooded so you can't give the stuff away now. We now call Blantons "basement bourbon" both because it's below bottom shelf and because it all comes from someone's basement bunker.
i thought i was done with buying blantons but i cam never pass it up at retail because i can down a bottle over the weekend with some great cigars… man for the hate it receives it’s damn good to me
You can just get the Michters Boutbon anytime for 40$ and it’s prettt close.. or a Buffalo Trace store pick…. Or if you want something actually good get 2 bottles of a Knob Creek store pick for less than what you will pay for 1 of either of those…
Matt you must be a psychic or maybe just kinda smart. I went into a whiskey museum today and asked the guy how much the ETL was. (Mind you it WASNT behind the counter) he told me four ninety nine. Tbh it didn't register. Maybe because he didn't include the hundred part.... After my brain fully kick in gear my feet soon followed. It's insane nowadays 😵
Second recent review to call out "apple core" in the pallette. I couldn't figure out how an apple core tastes different from the apple itself. After trying to nibble on some apple core... I still can't tell the difference.
Russell single barrel, McKenna 10, 1920, WT101, Russell 10, and Elijah Craig SB all better than Blantons and readily available. Man Buffalo trace sure has a strong hold on the whiskey world. Got ‘em by the balls.
When it comes to Buffalo Trace I'll stick with the base offering and Eagle Rare. I'm a VA resident so I'm not being charged too much above retail for either. Great video as always Matt. Cheers!
Funny video. Very entertaining. It's 2024 now, and I wouldn't pay those prices for either... even if I could. I just missed acquiring a bottle of Elmer T. Lee at SRP by a day or two.... rats! I've had Blanton's and Elmer T. Lee, and I agree with you. Elmer is the better of the two.
Same cricket 🦗 from your live the other day lol But as for those bottles, definitely not worth it! I’d rather get Forester 1910 or a Jack Daniels Sinatra
Just drop the musak and always have the crickets going. 😂 IMHO, all of the BT standard releases taste pretty similar. Save yourself the time and money on chasing these and grab either the standard BT for $25 or Eagle Rare for $35 if you can find it. If you can score a store pick ER you’re doing pretty good.
The only bottle of Blanton's Ive had was the most peanut shell flavored bourbon I've ever had (Like Jim Beam was soaked in a bag of peanut shells and filtered). Needless to say I will never be picking up another and have absolutely zero desire to lol
I love Knob Creek, the 9 and 12 year are awesome! Shockingly, they are no where near the peanut flavor of my bottle of Blanton's lol I think I just got a super off-profile barrel. Every time I go back to it I'm surprised by how bad it is lol
My wish is that everyone gets to try their unicorn bottle and realize it's just bourbon. And then move on to just buying what they like at reasonable prices. Till then I'll just marvel at how much people are spending on mediocre bourbon because most bourbon drinker are currently out of their minds. If Buffalo Trace thinks ETL is worth $38 and Blanton's is worth $55 (which is what I paid yesterday), why wouldn't I believe them? And if they're making a profit at that price, imagine what it really costs to produce it.
I'd buy ELT for $60 if I could find it... Blantons I pass on for $50 if it were $25 I'd buy it. So many others I'd rather spend money on than Blantons but ETLEE I think is worth $60 if i could find it.
I’ll go with any Elijah Craig barrel proof any time of the day. Had Blantons couple of times and wasn’t impressed. Definitely overrated. The other one I haven’t tried but I guess it can’t be that much better than Blantons.
I had a bottle of Elmer T Lee back when it was $35 a bottle. I wanted to like it but I did not like it. I gave half the bottle away. Way over rated in my opinion. Same for Blantons.

Think I'll just pay $23 for some Wild Turkey 101 or Old Forester 100. I've had a drink of Blanton's once, that will probably get me through ;)
I didn't A/B, but 1792 was so close to Blanton's in my memory.

I drank Blanton's regularly a couple of decades ago, you're not missing much. I'd rather have Wild Turkey.
I've never seen a bottle of Elmer yet. I passed on a bottle of Blanton's a while back. I think they had $140 on it. I'd rather buy two bottles of 1920.

I see Blanton’s fairly often liquor stores for $175 and sometimes less. I’ve never seen Elmer for under $350 in a store here. Pasadena, Ca area.
Whoever buys Blantons at that price send them my way lol
"Future proofing for 2022". It would hurt less if it wasn't possible.
I’d pay $50 for Old Forester 1920 and have a awesome bottle of Bourbon!
1920 is a beast on so many levels! Probably one of the best in that price range. Each sip tastes different from the previous one! Nice journey.

There is literally no consumable product worth that kind of money.
Yep 100%
Is sex considered consumable...?
$35 in 2015 and I thought it was quite average for bourbons at that price
