My Grandma throwing an Eephus pitch is a better fifth starter... WOW.... Ya really don't know bball.... Prediction at best... Montas 6.15 era 3 wins 8 losses before being released. Watch just watch.
At first I didn't like the signing but I also didn't like the Severino signing and the Mets seemed to fix Sevy, and obviously Manaea too. So we’ll see if the Mets do it again with Frankie
It's not that Boras last two off-seasons were flukes, it's that it they were such unmitigated disasters and he was losing clients at an untenable rate that he now needs to sign his guys early to longer term deals so they don't leave him.
I agree....if, they spent this extra buck to get an arm with higher upside to be their 5th man in the rotation, I agree it's a good signing only if that. Just that.
This probably means Sevy is gone. Manaea is still in play I feel and Mets might trade for an Ace instead of going after Burnes. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they Re-sign Manaea and go after Walker Buehler to round out the rotation.
My least favorite bigger signing since Stearns took over personally. Hope I’m wrong I’ve just never liked the way Montas pitches and don’t see any potential for being an average to above average arm.
Im indifferent on the signing. Stearns probably sees something in montas we dont and thinks he can get the most out of him. I think the improvement towards the end of the year is a sign for some optimism
@TheTEN24 how could you possibly say you were optimistic about Severino, who's injury history and recent performance were both much worse than Montas before entering 2024, but now Montas is all of a sudden a "shaky" signing? Makes absolutely no sense.
@@TheTEN24Montas is basically a Severino upgrade for 4 million more dollars. Montas has by far had better seasons in the last 5 years than Severino has, just happened to get ruined by the Yankees and become plagued by injuries. His biggest issue was the long ball last year but when you play for teams like the Reds and Brewers, the product of both ballparks causes that HR/9 uptick. He won't have that issue at Citi.
Love what you do Jolly. I'm a Tigers fan and to me this seems like the Mets overpaid somewhat here but then again we didn't have a market really set for this tier of FA coming off the board yet. The Tigers also need a mid/back-end SP and if they had signed Montas to this deal I'd be annoyed. It's certainly not an awful deal on paper but it's also not one I'd be super stoked about either.
@@TrueFineGentleman all good points. I hadn't seen Boyds deal until after I sent my reply so at least we have something to compare it to. While I agree with you that this is probably the market now it still bums me out a little that it takes 34 mil for back-end rotation filler & 29 only nets you Matt Boyd.
What a terrible signing, dude put up a 4.84 ERA in the NL Central, now has to go against Philly and Atlanta. And he's injury prone AND its a 2 year deal... stupid.
best analysis I’ve seen on the signing so far. Keep it up bromie
Jolly! It’s your time of the year brother.
Think this is a fine backend addition to this rotation. He doesn’t need to be anything incredible, just a solid #5 starter who can eat innings.

We just love signing pitchers from the ‘21 A’s (Bassitt, Manaea, Blackburn & now Montas) Luzardo up next for sure.
If we can get 2021-2022 Montas before he got traded to Yankees it’s a W

Honestly wonder if this signing impacts Jesse Winker's potential re-signing with the Mets since Montas is the one who threw at him in Milwaukee lmao
Where do you stack him in the rotation?

Why is there a Brewer's helmet in the background?
I think it's cause Montas was a Brewer last season

@ it’s plausible. I loved the Manaea signing and was optimistic about Severino. I don’t feel that way about montas

So Stearns is just just gona play craps with the rotation every year ?
How is this sustainable he has the money get 1 Ace
Stern must be getting kickbacks from this signing.

Cubs signed Boyd who pitched 8 games last year for 14/m per and this is 4m less than QO… this is the price for SP now

@ you’re not wrong! It’s a 2 year with a player option. Lets hope he is motivated to do a Sevi / Manaea and outperforms the QO
