The little Saami girl, Margu, is actually speaking Saami. Some of her lines are pretty funny because she _absolutely_ can understand English, she just can't speak it. For instance, when Jesper starts saying 'I feel like such a... I behaved like a...' she finishes his sentence with '...a dummy head?'. The second time they meet, he happens to say something that sounds like an answer to her question, and she gets excited and says 'really? You'll help me get a toy?' And then responds with what is to her a non-sequitur, to which she says '...I don't think you understand me at all...' When she is running up the dock, she really is yelling "Jesper! Don't leave, Jesper!" You can find versions of her scenes with translated subtitles for her. You will NOT regret it... she'll be all the cuter to you if you do!
Oscars are a joke. The voters admit to never watching the animated movies so it’s just a popularity contest. Just being nominated is the real award. Sucks that the creator of this movie’s next project was cancelled by Netflix.
Yeah, this deserved it. I didn't watch this before it and was championing Hidden World (which I still take above Toy Story) but this...this is special.
God the chills I get when he says that line, and the tears just start running..🥺 it just makes the whole ending so satisfying and it really speaks to the little kid in me who believed in all the magic and wonder of Santa... it's like it almost makes me believe it all over again. It hits me in my feelings and my nostalgia 😂
Just the sheer fact that in the world of Klaus, his good nature and peace with the world allows him to return to visit his friend and all the others. I feel like Jesper is the final stop, where it all started, and they spend the rest of the evening together. Do wonder if his wife is also able to come back with him for the occasion.
@@hiddendesire3076 I never thought of it that way! Jesper perhaps getting to meet Lydia when Klaus comes back each year as Santa. That's so heart warming to consider. I know it's a make believe world that is being discussed here, but damn do I hope that's how it works, with Lydia obviously being a big part of who Klaus is.
When the little girl wrote her name for the first time, it made me wanna cry because having a name is one of the first gifts your parents give you when you’re brought to this world. It’s a pretty bittersweet scene to me to be honest.
I love that there *is* a supernatural element to this movie. It comes off as a comical story on how the legend of Santa Claus could have been, but by the end you see that Klaus *does* become some sort of being that is more than just human.
The animation is amazing but what really caught my eye with this one is that the plot feels really unique for a christmas movie. Most of the christmas movies follow a similar formula but not this one and I really appreciate it
The Saami people are a real indigenous people from Sápmi or northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia! It's great seeing them represented here since they rarely get talked about and have been oppressed for so long:D Also loved the reaction, this is a beautiful movie!
One of my favorite Christmas movies of all time! Fun fact, the little Saami girl actually speaks real-life Sami, and there’s videos translating what she says and it always fits the situation she’s in. The movie makers really put a lot of work into this movie’s details.
I like that the family heads don't ever learn better, because some people just can't let go of hate, so you focus on others. In the end, the rest of the town is thriving harder than ever before, but their anger keeps them miserable. Heck, in the end, they are basically the only company for each other in their irrational clinging to traditions of hate.

True. I actually didnt know there was a real place named Smeerenburg but the fact its on Svalbard makes perfect sense! The whole setting and the people in the movie with everything from location designs to the names and cultures all seems very Scandinavian coded, especially Norway. The Danes say its on Greenland in the inland ice sheets, Finland says its up in remote areas of Lapland. Of course in North America they say its on the North pole. This movie is actually 2D animated (so with drawing instead of the computer) That’s why the movements are so distinct. It was created by a small animation studio called the SPA studios, founded by a former Disney animator.
😁 Spa Studios' CEO Sergio Pablos is co-creator of the Despicable Me franchise. With this movie ,though, he made his own first mark in the industry. With a unique art style to boot.
@@MrJamaigar Yeah. Before that he was one of Disney's premier animators back during the Renaissance, working in big roles on movies like Hercules, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Tarzan, and most notably Treasure Planet. He has been very vocal in his belief that even as 3D animation started to become the norm, 2D could still be pushed far further than Disney was doing in the 2000's. Klaus is essentially his proof of this as a big passion project, pushing 2D animation to new heights.
@@drdewott9154 I think maybe Klaus' art style might've worked for Despicable Me. The first one of those movies came out in 2010, though; animation on Klaus' level hadn't been done yet. Nor did Pablos have the tools ,or budget, to test it out..
I love how through these 2 they inspired every legend of Santa Klaus through their actions ...even how naughty kids get coal because the one kid pissed off the wrong postman lol
From what I've researched, the Director Sergio Pablos, worked on disney films during the 90's as a character animator. Two of his more iconic characters are Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1997) and Dr. Doppler from Treasure Planet (2002). In my eye, Jesper's design and silhouette reminds me of Doppler. His father makes me think of Frollo. This part here is conjecture on my part. He is also the voice of the Ellingboe daughter who only ever says "Mine."
this movie should have won an oscar, to think this is a old style 2d movie like the good ol disney ones but with that lighting and texture to make it seems like 3d is amazing
I did honestly think Jesper was going to end up becoming Santa Claus at the end. Especially after Klaus taught him how to make the toys and he grew a mustache of his own.
I discovered this movie a few days ago, and I fell in love with it. The animation, the story, the characters, the music, everything is perfect. One of the best Christmas movie ever ❤❤❤
This movie is a masterpiece. How visually stunning it looks, how inspiring it sounds, how it develops, how it feels in so many moments... In the end, you just look back to the story you watched and cry from nowhere, because it was good. The movie I would recommend anyone to watch. Ps. Nothing against TOY STORY 4, but Klaus should have won the 2020 Oscar for Best Animation.
This movie is incredible. The animation, the story, the music, the voice acting (seriously, Norm MacDonald as the boatman was a genius piece of casting), it's fantastic. There's a few moments that always make me tear up, and it's rare I'm not sobbing by the end with "and once a year, I get to see my friend"
Wow, I was just thinking about this movie yesterday. It always breaks my heart, but it's truly a beautiful movie, and I'm glad you guys could appreciate that!
This movie is a fucking classic so so good especially the animation. Plus I like the way this reaction was edited closer to that middle ground I was talking about Keep improving it and keep up the good work y’all.
I'm fairly certain that one of the main people who worked on Treasure Planet did this movie. You can really tell from some of the posing and mannerisms if different characters.
Yup. Sergio Pablos, the owner of the studio that made this, SPA Studios, is a former Disney Animator who afaik was the lead animator on Treasure planet. As well as doing big work on other Disney movies around this time like Tarzan, Hercules, and the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Saami are indigenous people of the northernmost parts of Sweden, Finland, Norway, and the Kola Peninsula of Russia and they originated from the region called sapmi which covers those countries
Ho Ho Ho 🎅 Merry Christmas 🎄 Movie - Instead of being from a riches Jesper was originally going to be a poor chimney sweep - Fun fact this isn’t J.K. Simmons first time playing Klaus in fact he worked as a mall Santa when he was pursuing a career in acting - After they crash the sleigh you can see “A113” on a create as in the same Easter Egg in Pixar Movies - The Sami girl Margu is voiced by Neda Margrethe Labba did not speak any English so the director Sergio Pablos traveled all the way to Tormsø, Norway to where she lives to do her recording
YES!!! Arthur Christmas is not just my favorite Christmas movie, it is my favorite movie, PERIOD. There is so much more to it than just a funny kids movie. So many messages about family dynamics and how you treat people affecting how they see themselves. I watch it whenever I'm having a bad day. 🩷💛💙
I've really been enjoying your LotR reactions, and previously the only movie reactions I've ever really watched are LotR. But _Klaus_ is my favourite Christmas movie that takes itself seriously (because my other favourite Christmas movie - one that DOESN'T take itself seriously - is obviously _Die Hard_ lol) so I randomly wondered if anybody had reacted to it. And lo and behold! Here was a reaction from a channel I already knew I loved. Ant it's because you guys are just so damn wholesome! Whether LotR or some scandalously underappreciated Christmas movie, you lot are not afraid to feel the Big Feels but also not make a big deal out of it either way. Thanks so much, and happy holidays, guys! (P.S. I convinced some friends to watch _Klaus_ in the past by describing it as _The Nightmare Before Christmas_ meets _The Emperor's New Groove_ so it's really funny to see you make those exact same references!)
21:35 Yeah, you basicly right. Origins of Santa Claus are quite simple, actiualy: As far as I remeber, old man, that in time became known as Saint Nicolas took pity on poor family that wasn't able to by any food on Cristmas(not even talking about selebration diner), which is most importaint holyday for christians. He secretly gave them his money. Google it. I haven't read this story in ages, so I might be forgetting some details
I never thought i would see you guys watch this until now, and i am so glad you are. This movie was so good when i watched it, and ive started watching it more and more since
I love this movie, my one and only complaint is that Alva and Klaus must have made the fake toy plan before learning of the real reason why Jesper was there so it’s weird he didn’t also know.
Oh man you can tell how good this movie is and how impactful it is- I cried just by watching this condensed, edited down version. Such an amazing movie!!!
Klaus is a great Christmas movie!🎅🏻 It's up there with Nightmare Before Christmas and Elf. I recommend you guys watch Oliver and Company. I know it's not a Christmas movie, but Oliver and Company is such a good movie and it hasn't gotten much recognition nowadays. More reaction channels should react to this Disney classic.
To reiterate a comment I made on someone else’s video on this movie : Klaus has been a Christmas must-watch in our family ever since it came out. It’s fun, heartwarming, visually stunning and, perhaps most importantly, not another boring and generic hallmark Christmas romance, MOM.
I loved this one so much, also the little blonde girl who didn’t speak the language was so wholesomely cute with that little gap toothed smile like oml
In posr sovetian countries santa claus (or дед мороз, which translates as grampa Freeze) is not accompanied by elves, but rather Lapplandans, people from Lappland, and that his residence is somewhere in Finnland So this tribe is actually dressed in clothes that is similar to Finnlands national clothing

I think maybe Klaus' art style might've worked for Despicable Me.
The first one of those movies came out in 2010, though;
animation on Klaus' level hadn't been done yet.
The amount of enjoyment the boatmen get from sharing his
Misery with others is too good 😂
I did honestly think Jesper was going to end up becoming Santa Claus at the end. Especially after Klaus taught him how to make the toys and he grew a mustache of his own.
*_Klaus_* Is an Old, (Published in 2019) Movie but a REALLY GOOD One at that.. Never In my LIFE! Have I seen and witnessed such an Amazing Movie!
This might be my second favorite Christmas movie (cause let’s be honest NOTHING can top “It’s A Wonderful Life”!)
I discovered this movie a few days ago, and I fell in love with it. The animation, the story, the characters, the music, everything is perfect. One of the best Christmas movie ever ❤❤❤
Watched this movie at least e dozen times and every time at the end I'm just: "inhales" hooooo.....keep it together ol boy, keep it together 🥲
you guys are like one of the best reactors so anytime yall pop up with a hype movie or series reaction like klaus its awesome
Oh yeah, this is a modern classic. Love it. I know it aint that old yet but I have watched it every year on christmas since it came out.
Imagine implementing the film’s animation style to a Makoto Shinkai film. You could get one of the most beautiful looking animated films ever made.
This timing is perfect, I JUST rewatched this movie yesterday! Such a good film
The animation for this movie is amazing. Fun fact: it’s actually 2D, not 3D animation.
On the end: klaus became the spirit of Saint Nicholas pretty much, another legend of Santa Claus.
Thanks to the Editor for the suggestion, you have good taste.
Saami are indigenous people of the northernmost parts of Sweden, Finland, Norway, and the Kola Peninsula of Russia and they originated from the region called sapmi which covers those countries
Ho Ho Ho 🎅 Merry Christmas 🎄 Movie
- Instead of being from a riches Jesper was originally going to be a poor chimney sweep
- Fun fact this isn’t J.K. Simmons first time playing Klaus in fact he worked as a mall Santa when he was pursuing a career in acting
- After they crash the sleigh you can see “A113” on a create as in the same Easter Egg in Pixar Movies
- The Sami girl Margu is voiced by Neda Margrethe Labba did not speak any English so the director Sergio Pablos traveled all the way to Tormsø, Norway to where she lives to do her recording
I remember watching this, it quickly became my favorite Christmas movie.
Guys, you GOTTA watch Arthur Christmas, it's pretty much a perfect christmas movie.
One of my favorites
Origins of Santa Claus are quite simple, actiualy:
As far as I remeber, old man, that in time became known as Saint Nicolas took pity on poor family that wasn't able to by any food on Cristmas(not even talking about selebration diner), which is most importaint holyday for christians. He secretly gave them his money.
Google it. I haven't read this story in ages, so I might be forgetting some details
Okay. This is now one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time, and your guys's reaction makes it even better. 💙🎄😁
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen! Happy y’all are checking it out
I never thought i would see you guys watch this until now, and i am so glad you are. This movie was so good when i watched it, and ive started watching it more and more since
2:14 that’s what I’m saying !!
Got to enjoy this one a few weeks ago, and it hit me in the feels hard. Merry Christmas, everyone!
28:00 It's called an Icejacht.
Pretty bum that this didn’t win an Oscar
But instead Toy Story 4 took it
One of the best modern Christmas movies
Klaus is a great Christmas movie!🎅🏻
It's up there with Nightmare Before Christmas and Elf.
I recommend you guys watch Oliver and Company.
I know it's not a Christmas movie, but Oliver and Company is such a good movie and it hasn't gotten much recognition nowadays.
More reaction channels should react to this Disney classic.
One of my favourite Christmas movies. Gorgeous animation and so beautfully written 💖
Thanks for bringing us joy with your reactions❤🔥✨And thanks to Karma for spamming with requests for this movie apparently😄
I would have spammed forever if I had to 🙏 was so happy they finally got around to it this year!
The unholy squawk I let out when I saw this was uploaded.
My favorite Christmas movie by my favorite reactors.
"you dont have to pay me"
"now please ❤"
😭
In posr sovetian countries santa claus (or дед мороз, which translates as grampa Freeze) is not accompanied by elves, but rather Lapplandans, people from Lappland, and that his residence is somewhere in Finnland
So this tribe is actually dressed in clothes that is similar to Finnlands national clothing
Man as an artist I gotta say this movie is gorgeous! It makes me wonder how it was animated
Man, even just seeing this reaction, and I'm tearing up again. This movie is so fucking good.
