The miser brothers will never leave my head till the day I die. Name a catchier tune, I'll wait. God these stop motion christmas specials are bottled childhood crack
These Rankin/Bass stop motion Christmas specials are such a core part of my childhood, and this film is one of the best. Snow and Heat Miser and their song have taken permanent residence in my head.
I mean, makes sense. Snow mister is "cheery, chill and relaxed." Meanwhile heat mister is "hot headed, stubborn and very.... Y'know." But yeah, could agree.
My head canon is that Heat Miser is IMMENSLY ENVIOUS of Snow Miser, most likely because of some unresolved family issues. He's the the first to attack the elves in the beginning, simply because he believes that they'll convince everyone to dream of a white Christmas (what his brother is supposedly responsible for), and overall is the brother whom expresses dislike toward Santa and his crew supposedly because they do most of the work for Snow Miser. Calling them "The Santa Clause gang of goody goodies.". When we speak with Snow miser he just cracks some jokes to tease Mrs. Clause and The Elves. Meanwhile when we meet heat miser, his conversation consists of him complaining about how much Santa supposedly prefers snow, over summertime activities and stating that NO ONE does anything for him. Implying that Snow Miser has friends and support and he doesn't (unless you count his minions filling that gap, though it's important to note that his minions look more grumpy than Snow Miser's Minions). He also states to Snow Miser "You think your hot stuff because mother likes you best!" Which I would say implies that he believes that Snow Miser is Mother Nature's favorite, when later on in the special Mother nature calls both of them "Nasty Little Boys.". In other words, Heat Miser is plagued by hatred and spite, due to the fact that he is under his brother's shadow. So due to this head canon, here is my proposition. What Heat Miser wants is attention, and praise for his work. As well as friends. What he needs is to be less hot headed, and speak to people with kindness and sympathy. Rather than hatred and spite. ASK for Snow Miser, It's important to note that his jokes are rather snarky and mean at times. I mean I certainly wouldn't appreciate someone saying "Oh that's a shame the poor fellow, he should have come to see me. I would have given him a good one." after someone says "I'm afraid they have a bad cold.". Snow honey, that kinda joke ain't gonna slide after 2020.
Fun Fact: when Mother Nature tells the Miser Brothers to make a deal, they accidentally mixed up the audio for it. She was supposed to tell Snow Miser to let the Spring day happen at the North Pole, and Heat Miser to let snow fall in Southland. Someone on RUclips actually fixed the audio for it, and it makes so much more sense now.
Back in ye olden times, we pored over every TV Guide edition, circling when our holiday shows would be broadcast so we wouldn't miss them. If we did, that was it for the year! No repeats, no video taping, no nothing. The Year Without a Santa Claus, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, The Little Drummer Boy... along with Frosty the Snowman, The Grinch that Stole Christmas and A Charlie Brown Christmas. Stop motion, animation... holiday TV traditions that are a highly fond memory of my childhood years...
Santa Claus is Coming to Town -> The Year Without A Santa Claus -> Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer -> Rudolph's Shiny New Year The rest on the Rankin-Bass movies are sprinkled throughout but that is the Santa Claus Timeline for the R-B Series.
I'd recommend going through these movies in chronological order, as they do in fact have an overarching canon, The Year Without Santa Claus is like the 3rd or 4th entry chronologically.
8:54 ..... he has thousands of Elfs who make wvey5hing from wooden horses to ipads so my guess would be he had them make his clothes OR they made them for Big S as a gift of gratitude lol
Something that always bothered me (for lack of a better word) when I was a kid is that pretty much the entirety of the movie is that Santa has brought joy to kids years after year, but the one year he's sick, after the world agrees to let him have the day off to recover after all he's done for them, this one girl sends him a letter to literally guilt trip him into working while he's sick anyway, and that's supposed to be sweet? I always remember thinking, "Wow, what greedy brat, guilting Santa into bringing you presents while he's sick".
I love the original stop motion about Santa about when he becomes Santa for the first time that next to Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer are my favorites
One crazy/beautiful Christmas tradition was watching this 30 minute cartoon called Small One. It's about a kid forced to sell his favorite donkey because he's too old and how he goes to town to sell him. And it's crazy because the first place he gets sent to is the town tanner. And it terrified my little kid heart. It's actually a lovely story.
22:24 oh it’s been trending over and over again, some trends varied like one being a makeup/cosplay, one was more of a meme with “I’m mister snow miser, I’m high on crack”, and some were RUclips singers making song covers and animating those covers. Without fail I see heat miser and snow miser trending every year in some way
I think this is the best of the Rankin Bass Christmas specials. "Santa C.ause is Coming to Town" is a close second, but this one has the sharpest writing and really gets to core of what the Christmas holiday and Santa Clause are all about.
The "miser bros" song might be the most iconic from this special but to me "i believe in santa claus" is the best song of the special and holds the message of it perfectly.
I don’t really have a Christmas tradition other than recently I been watching the Hogfather ( a three hour live action movie where the grim reaper thwarts an assissin’s attempt on Santa and has to fill in for the night… The weird stuff is thanksgiving because wpix channel 11 in the New York market would play mighty Joe young, and son of Kong, two big ape movies) then the wizard of oz; they stuck with me
I turned 53 earlier this year, I honestly thought this movie was older than me 😅 I remember being creeped out by these shows, but I got used to them, I almost always hated the songs😂 But watching them at night on the livingroom floor, getting to stay up until 10 o'clock at night to watch the specials and getting to sleep in on a holiday off school was the best, and seeing my kids, now 25,28,31 show them to my grandkids,,,,4 girls,, they are parts of unrelated holiday memories, that is why I love these specials ❤
Had a great time with this reaction! All your laughter gave me vitamins during that one sequence too x). We used to watch 'Muppet Family Christmas', 'Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas', and 'Twas the Night before Christmas' (another Rankin Bass with great songs, but it was animated instead of stop-motion) growing up-- and after it came out I'd watch 'Olive the Other Reindeer' when I found it online (it was made by Matt Graening in the 90s). Such great shows :) I'm 44
I was 8 when this came out and in those pre-VCR days, I remember recording the audio on my new 4-track recorder by hanging the mic from the TV's volume knob...then I'd listen to it at night, especially the Miser Brothers' bits.
Am I considering this another 4 movie week?...Yes, yes I am. Merry Christmas Eve, Billy! And Merry Christmas Eve to Ruff, Bree, Boom, Erik, Christian, the rest of the Sorta Stupid cast and crew and the kiddos! 💜 🎄 🎅 🤶 🧑🎄 💚 ❤ 🎁
I'm younger than these specials, but I remember watching these kinds of specials on ABC when I was a kid once December rolled around. They even made a sequel of sorts that premiered in 2008 that had the Miser Brothers at the forefront of it.
I love watching animated Christmas specials like this one! My family actually hates Christmas specials and thinks they are for babies. I’m the only one who wants to watch them around the holidays. No matter how much I try and get them to watch one I’m the only one in my family that ever watches them every year!
Rankin & Bass did such a great job making these holiday specials. It’s a tradition in our family to watch them every year. Watching this I always thought the ones that wanted Santa to still deliver the gifts were just greedy for presents and not caring if he was sick or not. 22:07 in Batman & Robin with Arnold playing Mr Freeze he had his minions singing this song. 26:16 if you check out “Miser Brothers Christmas” from 2008 they show more of Mother Nature’s family. 29:32 some states in the south are actually trying to do that in 2024.
I was 13 when this came out. I still watch all of the Rankin/Bass specials every year on DVD. Mrs. Claus' first name is Jessica. See Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. The song Blue Christmas has been around since 1948.
My family's go to christmas movie was, and still is, Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. It came out over a DECADE before this one, and is one of the very earliest animated christmas specials!
Bro, I have never laughed so hard at the "I believe in Santa Claus" number! This is my favorite Rankin/Bass, but that scene was always this weird break of energy in this film, and now I will never watch it without breaking into laughter.
"Santa's not making the toys, he has GOUT! That doesn't just go away!" Insightful comments like this is why I watch this channel. Merry Christmas Billy
“Bring your hubby next time. We’ll have a blizzard!” - Snow Miser. Just…wow, I never caught that as a kid. Also, I love the implication in their songs. “FRIENDS call me Snow Miser.” “THEY call me Heat Miser.”
Loved this movie and the miser brothers movie that came later. My sister and I have winter and summer bdays and we’d do the song and dance for the miser brothers and be the corresponding brother for our bday season 😊 brings back memories
It is funny how early childhood memories get mashed together. Like, this movie has always been linked to Zelda: OoT, the first gen of pokemon and, specifically Banjo Tooie, because there’s a dual boss. One’s a fire dragon and one’s an ice dragon. Chilli Billi, and Chilly Willy. Good times… Merry Christmas, everyone! ❤🎄
Also, I just remembered that as a completely non-religious household, growing up I never prayed, and it certainly wasn’t part of my nightly routine so the line in the song, “hang your stockings and say your prayers, ‘cause Santa Claus comes tonight” always had a vaguely threatening tone to me 😂
21:13 i think theres actually a scare disease reindeer/deer can get. Like they turn into zombies or something 22:18 theres at least 1 band that's covered the song -Big Bad Voodoo Daddy ❤ lol
I was Six years old when this came out i've watched it every year since. Everybody always knows Rudolph. But this is my favorite. Who can beat heat miser?
I'm younger than this movie......by 2 years. Ugh.. BTW Mrs. Claus's first name is Sarah as said in the other holiday special "Here Comes Santa Claus" which gives us his whole origin in this stop motion universe that surprisingly is in continuity with one another sorta.
I am old enough to have seen this the first time this hit tv. As for your response to the sad Santa singing at the dinner table about how nobody believes in him and how he got the father to believe... you're all getting coal for Christmas.
Funny, I just re-watched this special last night (also holy crap, 50 year anniversary, I also had no idea). These Rankin-Bass were always a special kind of nonsense where they made little to no sense if you thought about what actually happens in them after the fact, and the stop-motion sometimes dipped into the uncanny valley and felt jarring if not outright creepy sometimes (or maybe that was just me). Still, they always stick with me, for better or worse, and I really wish the other specials besides Rudolph, Frosty, and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town got played more often on TV. Like this one, I had to find it on RUclips to rewatch it, which is a shame, because I really do like it. Obviously, the Miser Brothers stole the show, even if they were mostly incidental to the plot of Santa Claus potentially taking a holiday. They actually got their own special years later called "A Miser Brothers Christmas" if you ever want to check that out.
YES! I just stopped watching the squid game reaction to tune into this. I watched these every year so happy.....ok while typing this I almost shit myself because the visual chirp at 0:35 made me think my computer was failing and I just built this thing...I can't take this emotional abuse on Christmas eve man...
The miser brothers will never leave my head till the day I die. Name a catchier tune, I'll wait. God these stop motion christmas specials are bottled childhood crack
I sing them anytime of the year and Im not even a huge christmas fan
I can't do the cold but Snow Miser's song is a bop.
@@NearlyapatheticnarratorSame
Same, I sing it to this day lmao
These Rankin/Bass stop motion Christmas specials are such a core part of my childhood, and this film is one of the best. Snow and Heat Miser and their song have taken permanent residence in my head.
Rankin Bass made Thundercats
What's funny during the Miser Brothers songs is Snow Miser says "Friends call me" whereas Heat Miser says "They call me"
I mean, makes sense. Snow mister is "cheery, chill and relaxed." Meanwhile heat mister is "hot headed, stubborn and very.... Y'know." But yeah, could agree.
Poor heat miser, has no friends
My head canon is that Heat Miser is IMMENSLY ENVIOUS of Snow Miser, most likely because of some unresolved family issues.
He's the the first to attack the elves in the beginning, simply because he believes that they'll convince everyone to dream of a white Christmas (what his brother is supposedly responsible for), and overall is the brother whom expresses dislike toward Santa and his crew supposedly because they do most of the work for Snow Miser.
Never in a thousand years would I have expected a Rankin/Bass special on this channel, let alone my favorite of the bunch.
I always got confused by that as a kid, like I kept questioning it, and then I kept telling myself “nah it kinda makes sense though”
Also when the kids are sending gifts to Santa, when they say north south east west, they accidentally put a cowboy as east and a Japanese boy as west.
Snow and Heat Miser’s songs are the most memorable parts of this Christmas film, imo.
Agree and honestly, I wished they remade the song during this time of Christmas, I mean, they are awesome.
Regarding Mrs. Claus's first name, it's Jessica in the Rankin Bass universe, which this movie is a part of.
Watch Santa clause is coming to town. Prequel
Santa Claus is Coming to Town -> The Year Without A Santa Claus -> Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer -> Rudolph's Shiny New Year
Much older! I am a grandma myself. Love watching you all react to movies and shows that were new to me in the day. Keep up the fun!
Movies like these and The Wizard of Oz must have been crazy when they were first released
At 5:32 actually in these movies, her first name is Jessica.

5:00 I think somewhere my family has a book about a time when Santa was too sick on Christmas Eve and Mrs. Clause had to deliver presents for him.
That sounds right, in the opening credits I’m pretty sure it says the movie was based off a book
"He is" 😂 0:10

No matter how wholesome and pure it is, stop motion clay figures and models will always be nightmare fuel to some degree. 💜

I've always found it strange that in media where Santa is clearly real there are people who operate by the real world rules and deny his existence.
My favorite movie since childhood! I haven't had a chance to watch it this year, so I'll watch it with you.
This and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" are MUSTS for every Christmas season for me. Non-negotiable!!!
Love Snow and Heat Meisers!
21:13 i think theres actually a scare disease reindeer/deer can get. Like they turn into zombies or something

Oh my god, please watch more clay animation Christmas shows. They’re so classic and memorable. Please do a Miser Brothers Christmas soon!
