      Just the sheer fact that in the world of Klaus, his good nature and peace with the world allows him to return to visit his friend and all the others. I feel like Jesper is the final stop, where it all started, and they spend the rest of the evening together. Do wonder if his wife is also able to come back with him for the occasion.

  • @GuukanKitsune
    @GuukanKitsune 11 месяцев назад +561

    The little Saami girl, Margu, is actually speaking Saami. Some of her lines are pretty funny because she _absolutely_ can understand English, she just can't speak it.
    For instance, when Jesper starts saying 'I feel like such a... I behaved like a...' she finishes his sentence with '...a dummy head?'.
    The second time they meet, he happens to say something that sounds like an answer to her question, and she gets excited and says 'really? You'll help me get a toy?' And then responds with what is to her a non-sequitur, to which she says '...I don't think you understand me at all...'
    When she is running up the dock, she really is yelling "Jesper! Don't leave, Jesper!"
    You can find versions of her scenes with translated subtitles for her. You will NOT regret it... she'll be all the cuter to you if you do!

      @@senritsujumpsuit6021 Actually its not 3D at all surprisingly. Its an extremely advanced and detailed version of 2D animation with tonnes of shades and highlights. The movie was animated by an animation house in Spain run by Sergio Pablos, a former 2D disney animator who worked at Disney during the 1990's as one of their premier animators in their Renaissance years. But Pablos always felt 2D animation had potential to grow far beyond what DIsney was doing by the time they stopped doing 2D animation in the 2000's.
      Afaik this movie has been Sergio Pablos only full length feature from his own studio, and essentially a passion project of his. I know that the studio has a youtube channel where you can find several animation tests and breakdowns of them, how each individual layer was done from sketches all the way to textures and highlights.

    I think it's wonderful that they used the Saami people as elves (indigenous people living in the northen parts of the Scandinavian countries), and that the island is Svalbard (Norway territory, but also considered the North Pole). In parts of Europa, but especially Scandinavia, the letters to Santa sent through the postal service goes to Finland, where Santa Clause lives with his elves, which are the Saami people.

    • @drdewott9154
      @drdewott9154 8 дней назад +1

      True. I actually didnt know there was a real place named Smeerenburg but the fact its on Svalbard makes perfect sense! The whole setting and the people in the movie with everything from location designs to the names and cultures all seems very Scandinavian coded, especially Norway. And across the Nordics there are several different myths for where Santa claus has his workshop. The Danes say its on Greenland in the inland ice sheets, Finland says its up in remote areas of Lapland. Of course in North America they say its on the North pole. But having it be essentially in Svalbard is like a genius compromise across them all.

    Absolutely cried so much the first time I watched this. Such an unique way of telling the origin of Santa a.k. Klause. It is a must watch every Christmas season and I still get teary eyed. Glad to see you guys experience this great movie. Till next time guys

    Klaus is a great Christmas movie!🎅🏻
    It's up there with Nightmare Before Christmas and Elf.
    I recommend you guys watch Oliver and Company.
    I know it's not a Christmas movie, but Oliver and Company is such a good movie and it hasn't gotten much recognition nowadays.
    More reaction channels should react to this Disney classic.

    In posr sovetian countries santa claus (or дед мороз, which translates as grampa Freeze) is not accompanied by elves, but rather Lapplandans, people from Lappland, and that his residence is somewhere in Finnland
    So this tribe is actually dressed in clothes that is similar to Finnlands national clothing

    I absolutely love that the father wasnt a jerk or antagonist of some sort. He thought his son would want to leave, and when he saw he didn't, he told him he was proud of him and let him stay. His son never would have found his wife or his best friend if the father hadn't made him go to the town in the first place. Really, the dad is kind of the background hero of the movie.

    Realisticly Smeerensburg was once a whaling factory district where whales hunted in Norway and their blubber and oil were harvested but now it's abandoned and you can still find the ruins of buildings there!

    21:35 Yeah, you basicly right.
    Origins of Santa Claus are quite simple, actiualy:
    As far as I remeber, old man, that in time became known as Saint Nicolas took pity on poor family that wasn't able to by any food on Cristmas(not even talking about selebration diner), which is most importaint holyday for christians. He secretly gave them his money.
    Google it. I haven't read this story in ages, so I might be forgetting some details

    This movie is incredible. The animation, the story, the music, the voice acting (seriously, Norm MacDonald as the boatman was a genius piece of casting), it's fantastic. There's a few moments that always make me tear up, and it's rare I'm not sobbing by the end with "and once a year, I get to see my friend"

    This movie is a masterpiece. How visually stunning it looks, how inspiring it sounds, how it develops, how it feels in so many moments... In the end, you just look back to the story you watched and cry from nowhere, because it was good. The movie I would recommend anyone to watch.
    Ps. Nothing against TOY STORY 4, but Klaus should have won the 2020 Oscar for Best Animation.
