  • Ten Week Ultrasound. Finding out if we're expecting twins. At our 6 week 5 day ultrasound, our midwife thought we might be having twins. We also weren't able to see or hear a heartbeat. For safety reasons, we weren't able to go in for another ultrasound until my 10 week visit. This is what happened at this ultrasound.

    I agree that only technicians should be able to do scans. With my last pregnancy my husband saw two heartbeats before my midwife did. He had to point out the second heartbeat to her. Not until I saw a technician did they find the third baby. It was such a whirlwind in my first trimester.

    I'm so sorry that both times you didn't have a sonographer! We as sonographers also find it frustrating when untrained/partially trained people are performing ultrasounds because it causes stress and uncertainty for the patient, as well as leads to repeat scans. I totally understand limited use of ultrasound in a practice (to check the heart rate or to see if a baby is head down at term), but I believe dating scans should be performed by a sonographer who knows how to assess not only the number of babies but also the cervix, placenta, location of the sac, as well as your ovaries and more!
    That being said- although I wasn't there being able to look myself, I think it's very unlikely that the midwife missed a 10 week baby. From the clip you showed, it looks like only one!
    I hope for your anatomy scan you will be going somewhere where a sonographer will perform it!

      I’m so glad I had a trained professional for my dating scan. She measured the baby and heart beat at 7 weeks, it was 50 beats a minute and she said everything was “perfect”. It was so nice to hear after switching doctors early on because the midwife was we went to at first was disrespectful to my fiancé.

      I didn't even know OB offices had people other than sonographers perform ultrasounds! I worked at an OB office, and sometimes the physician would perform a portable ultrasound in the room, but if there were any questions, they immediately moved the patient in with the sonographer.

    I don’t know if you recall but I posted a comment back in February 2020 & had a missed miscarriage in March 2020. I got my 1st period 4/2/20, ovulated 4/17/20 & just got 3 faint positive test. I have had definite negative test for over 2 weeks so I know it’s not left over hormones. I’m 8-9 dpo. So excited! Back on this journey with you! Your channel was the only TTC channel I was still able to watch after without getting sad. Your comments were comforting especially knowing you have been through loss as well & understand how I feel.

    I’ve also had 4 pregnancies in 5 years (first was a miscarriage), and you’re right-it does take a toll on your body. My pregnancy with my youngest was SO different, and I was way way sicker than with my other two. But she turned out healthy and just fine and other than the first trimester sickness it was my smoothest pregnancy of all. I’m so happy you had a good appointment and ultrasound. I’m sure seeing Baby Bear just made your whole week. ❤️

    5’2.. carried identical twin girls to 37 weeks and 2 days! You could do it! I didn’t find out until my 20 week anatomy scan 😳 but in 35 years my ultrasound tech said she’s never missed a twin on an ultrasound and couldn’t believe it. You just never know.. and honestly I’m so glad I didn’t know until 20 weeks because I avoided that stress for weeks! It was the best surprise of my life, an unforgettable moment. Any baby is a miracle and even if you only have one.. it’s amazing 💕 wishing you health!!

Id be lying if I told you this pregnancy has been a breeze compared to my 2 singleton babies. I developed hypermesis really early on and still battling that with medication. I had a C section with my last little boy so I'm not concerned about a C section this time (no way am I pushing TWO out my koochie!) But I wanted to wish you guys so much love and luck for a smooth pregnancy! I know how hard it is having two kids at home and being pregnant during this quarentine. It's tough. Had surgery to remove gall bladder at 24 weeks, my organs were shutting down. I showed so early with her, yet I didn’t feel her kick until I was almost 7 months pregnant. But she’s my special girl and she’s got this personality that’s full of fire. She’s a fighter (she’s on chemo for a rare disease). Here in Australia I only get ultrasounds by a sonographer or my obstetrician. I’ve had 7 ultrasounds by 16+5 (I’m 18 weeks tomorrow) with twins and each time I’ve been given so much information. Your experience so far would be stressing me out. I hope your next ultrasound is with a fully trained sonographer. I’m 158cm tall and normally weigh between 47 and 50kg it’s a lot of strain on the body but you just deal with it. I have hyperemesis gravidarum so the count down is on to the finish line, I just want to be able to eat, drink, not vomit, and be able to sleep and not be in pain. The twins will all be worth it though.

    So excited for your family and to see another healthy baby Bear 🐻 A mother’s intuition is usually right! With my 4th pregnancy I started spotting at 6 weeks. Because I had a previous miscarriage my doctor ordered me bloodwork to check my hcg and also scheduled me to come in for an ultrasound. I had been having strong feelings about it being twins but I just wrote them off. My bloodwork came back VERY high! The nurse was surprised how high and good my numbers were. I went in for my ultrasound around 6 weeks 3 days. For some crazy reason she began to do a regular ultrasound(all my other pregnancies had been vaginal ultrasounds that early) and then stopped to say “Well, I’m going to do a vaginal ultrasound now because I think I see two things.” Wait what😳 So she does a vaginal and ends up only seeing one 👶🏻. I go home and continue to progress with my pregnancy(but still feeling something is different and twins was still on my mind). I began having severe nausea 24/7 and dry heaving constantly. My first two pregnancies I had no nausea and my third I had some nausea and all three were girls! So now I start really feeling like this is a boy! I’m finally getting a son! Fast forward to 9 weeks 4 days and I’m out shopping alone preparing for my daughter’s 2nd birthday. I feel a huge gush(similar to your water breaking). Pure panic sets in and I rush to the grocery bathroom. My worst fear is happening. I had never seen so much blood before. I’m sitting in this bathroom stall alone, crying, shaking, and freaking out. I clean myself up as best as I could, walked next door to TJ Maxx and bought a pair of leggings and underwear. I changed and them went to my car and bawled. I knew I had lost my baby. There’s no way I didn’t. It was a long holiday weekend so my doctors office was closed but I called and spoke with the doctor on call. He was insensitive and a jerk. Basically told me that if I was having a miscarriage he or myself could stop it and there was nothing anyone could go. He said I could go to the hospital ER but they wouldn’t be able to tell me anything either. I went home devastated. I continued to lightly bleed all weekend. I called my doctor first thing Monday morning. My doctor is the best and told me I could come down right away for an ultrasound. I was sick to my stomach the whole way there. She performed a vaginal ultrasound and to my surprise there was a healthy BABY flopping around on the screen! I just started sobbing! How?! How is there still a baby there?! I got to hear and see the heartbeat too😊 I was incredibly thankful for the life I was still carrying. As the next couple weeks went by I continued to have spotting and what was like a light period. I was calling my doctor constantly telling her something is still not right. This isn’t normal and I just know there’s something more going on. So at 12 weeks she did another ultrasound and told me she’d really look around good this time....and that’s when she said she saw “two things”. She ordered me another ultrasound with another doctor who specializes in doing ultrasounds. I had to wait a week but went in at 13 weeks. He saw TWO sacs! One had a healthy baby and the other no longer had a baby in it. I was shocked. But also relieved to finally have an answer. I grieved the loss of my baby on my long drive home but also thanked God I still had one healthy life growing inside me. The bleeding/spotting eventually subsided(but the severe nausea did not). I ended up delivering at 36 weeks a beautiful baby BOY! So like I said earlier...a mothers intuition is always right(well almost always 😉)!

We want to start trying for our second this summer :) my first is now 10 😂 and my husband only wants one more so I joke if we have twins he will have no choice but to have two more 😂🤞🏻 I went through two miscarriages last year and I found your channel around the time you went through your chemical pregnancy. You’ve helped me so much more then you know, during that time especially, just having someone to relate to at times like that.. so thank you for being that friend for all of us on this channel.. and so so happy you have your healthy little baby bear on the way finally! 🐻 ❤️🥰

      Clare our McD’s never shut down. You just couldn’t go inside, it was drive through only. That’s how most of our restaurants were. Now. As of Friday, we have a bunch o stuff opening up (it’s currently now Wednesday) I don’t know about other salons and barbers but one of them was shown on the news couple nights ago.... a barber who *can* open back up, but is choosing not to at this time.... at least for a bit longer... he wants his employees and customers protected to the fullest, so he’s waiting a bit more. Makes me kinda wish I could go to a barber 💈 lol I would so go to him after all this is over.... I’d fully support him!

    I’ve had 5 babies (8 pregnancies), all girls, every single one has been completely different. I was adamant baby 3 was a boy because there was something slightly off and some pregnancy symptoms I was unfamiliar with. My OBGYN said in his 40 years of experience, the third is always a wild card. He said that he found they were either easy breezy pregnancy or the opposite. That was very true for me, she is also my only red head and has the fiery nature to match. I’m so happy for your family that Baby Bear is healthy and growing, what excellent news xxx

    Every pregnancy is different. I've had three pregnancies, and my first two I felt the same and with my Third, I felt so different so I thought maybe it was a boy but nope another girl. It's weird how every pregnancy can be so different!

    I'm so excited for you!! 💗 So glad everything looks good and baby is healthy. And that you have such a caring midwife. I did not like the 2 midwives at my practice when I was pregnant with my son - they had no beside manner and completely brushed off my concerns. It's so hard to find a good doctor or midwife. Nothing better than seeing your little baby on an ultrasound. Now you're making me want another! 😉

    Congratulations on your growing baby!! **This is NOT a spicy comment, just a friendly conversation** There is one question I thought about as you were talking about a healthy baby being "a goal". How can that be your goal? You have no control over that, is what I mean. You either have a healthy baby or you don't. I don't think many people would love an "unhealthy" baby any less than a healthy one. And comments like that never hit me like this until my third baby was born not healthy in the typical sense. My son was born with congenital defects (that required major surgeries) and Down syndrome, and we were completely shocked because all ultrasounds during my pregnancy came back perfect. We had no idea. I did all the "right things" and prayed for a healthy baby, but God gave me my child the way He had already planned for me. (My son is almost 2 and an absolutely vibrant and perfect child.) I just wish we could reframe that mindset around "healthy," and talk more about loving a baby no matter what...healthy or not. Love to you and your family!

    • @Lex.Fitzgerald
      @Lex.Fitzgerald  4 года назад +3

      Kenosha Tannahill this is definitely a tricky subject especially to discuss over text because anything can be taken the wrong way. Every parent hopes for their children to be healthy. Sometimes that doesn’t happen. That doesn’t mean we love them any less or they are wanted any less. It’s just something that happens. Cooper had hypospadias, Willa has benign congenital hypotonia. They both are healthy. Your baby is healthy. Parents wish for quality of life for their children. That comes in all shapes and sizes. My goal is healthy. I want my babies to be healthy. That doesn’t mean I don’t love them and different if something is different.

    • @juliedate517
      @juliedate517 4 года назад +1

      I dont think that anyone would love their baby any less if they weren't healthy, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't want their babies to be healthy.... coming from a mother who was pregnant with a baby who had a severe chromosomal abnormalty and she died that is not a want for any mother ....because in reality that is a risk with a unhealthy child maybe try looking at it from that perspective I went to church with a woman whose son has down syndrome and right now shes going through a lot because of some serious health issues and he has a high chance of him not surviving it ....it's not fair for anyone to think its wrong to want a healthy baby.... sure your child might me be doing just fine but that's not the case for everyone I lost my daughter at 15 weeks into my pregnancy and was devastated

    • @Scarlettheart333
      @Scarlettheart333 4 года назад

      @@Lex.Fitzgerald Thank you for your thoughtful response. I definitely think this is not the best platform for this discussion, but I felt pulled to say something. I completely agree that all (most) parents wish and pray for a healthy pregnancy and baby every time. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'm 9 weeks pregnant with my fourth, and I pray this baby is healthy. I guess my main point is that having or not having a healthy baby isn't something that you can control. And like you said above: "It's just something that happens." And I guess it would be nice if that was talked about more.

    • @Scarlettheart333
      @Scarlettheart333 4 года назад

      @@juliedate517 I'm sorry for your loss. I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting a healthy baby, but I do think that it would be nice (every once in a while) for there to be a conversation about the reality that not everyone gets a healthy baby. My son had a rough start in life like so many babies with congenital defects and chromosomal conditions, and I am fully aware of the blessings in my life that I have a pretty healthy and happy almost two-year-old. I meant no offense in my comment, I wanted to offer a different perspective. One where it's OK to acknowledge the possibility of not having a healthy (in the typical sense) baby all while hoping that the baby is in fact healthy.

    • @juliedate517
      @juliedate517 4 года назад +1

      I can definitely understand what you mean I'm so happy that your little guy is doing good I think for me I always prayed for healthy children but that because of the fact that I lived through the loss of one the pain of that is just too much I would have loved to have my little Aubrey but I also came to realize that if she had survived she could have suffered it's a painful reality so for me I wish for a healthy baby for everyone

    They can tell if your having twins by your hormone levels. Most times when having twins your hormone levels will be doubled every single test.

    Hi girl! I’m pregnant for the first time and am currently 8w5d. I totallllly needed a video like this bc I’ve been so nervous this entire time. I actually live in Pittsburgh and a lot of doctors/midwives here refuse to see any patients without any type of past complications until 10 weeks. So that also may be a reason your midwife couldn’t see guarantee anything at 6 weeks? Love this vid and glad to be joining along!

    I have three little people and have gone through so much getting them, but I can honestly say my 3rd childs pregnancy was nothing like the others. My midwife said she always found the 3rd child is the hardest one to carry, I went through the same as you. I had a boy and a girl and was so so sick I looked like there was 2 showing super early but no just one a girl and she is 100% crazy now so I think you may just have a little high wired baby bear 😊. I'm currently 15+1 weeks with our 3rd and I have severe, debilitating nausea from 5 weeks to until about 13 weeks. It was constant, all day every day and I was suffering so bad. Luckily it has eased off now I have have more energy 😁
    Our boys are 5 years old and 3.5 years old (youngest turns 4 in September and I'm due 14th October). I had nausea with them, but not as extreme as this time round. We're not finding out the gender (did with the first two), so I'm looking forward to the surprise at the end 😄
