Xtreme Defense vs a Hollow-Point bullet through a Barrier - gel test. Here's what happened.

  • We put the 90-Grain Xtreme Defense 9mm bullet up against a premium Hollow-Point 124-Grain bullet. We shot these bullets through the same Wilson Combat 4-inch Professional. For the test both bullets went through the same plywood barrier and into a 20-inch ballistic gelatin. The result proved that while Hollow-Points clog and will not expand if shot through a barrier, the Xtreme Defense is truly barrier blind. We used a high speed camera for this test at 4000 frames per second.
    See how the 90-grain Xtreme Defense performed without a barrier in this test. • Lehigh Defense - Xtrem...
    Xtreme Defense is machined from solid copper with the most advanced technology called Fluid Transfer Monolithic. The progressive geometry allows for deep, straight penetration while creating a permanent wound cavity diameter exceeding that of most expanding bullets. Penetrating barriers such as drywall or heavy clothing prior to impacting the intended target doesn’t have the potentially negative effect on the Xtreme Defense that it does to conventional hollow point bullets.

      @@doghousedon1 Yeah I'm surprised they published this with that obvious result, and tried to pivot to overpenetration, a tired and dumb topic. in the real world many shots will just miss the target. This really confirms what I believed about these bullets which is the flutes just make them tumble or yaw in gel to produce a larger "wound cavity" , which by the way gel isn't even designed to show wounding, it's just a consistent medium to compare bullet penetration and deformation. Here is a super cool video that shows what the xtreme defender bullets are actually doing, the flutes displacing fluid and causing more wounding is just nonsense. At about the 4min 30 sec is a super slow mo of the defender bullet yawing weirdly through the gel, perhaps the flutes are useful to get the yawing action but obviously aren't doing what they are advertised to do.

      I came to say the same thing. Yes, the hollow point exited the gel, but it didn't look like it had the energy to do any damage at that point. Even with the hollow point not opening, it still seemed to create a larger wound cavity. I'm sure either round would be effective as a defense round, but this demonstration didn't make the fluted round seem any better.

    The hollow point appears to be the Federal HST, As it exited the gel block, It had expended >98 % of It's energy and did not have enought velocity to break the skin of someone behind the block, after passing through the wood, the bullet began to tumble and created a fairly decent would cavity, don't get me wrong, the monolithic CNC machined copper fluted bullet is a great performer, especially, the +P and +P+, loadings, and I've seen them outperform the HSTs.

When you may only get one defensive shot, I want it to be the best I can get. I haven't tried Lehigh Defense ammo yet, but I assume they are on an equal par with Underwood? Either way, you can't go wrong.

    Whether or not the hollow point expanded, it left a much more devastating wound channel than the Extreme Defense. And even though the hollow point went through the gel, it more than likely would bounce off of your hand and not even leave a mark. Oh, and the fact you didn’t mention what “premium” hollow point was used, it’s practically impossible to take this “test” seriously.

    Unfortunately the test is invalid, as a 124 gr bullet is obviously heavier than a 90 gr one, so it has more momentum even at lower speeds therefore it can push itself further into a particular substance, ergo the experemient isn't fair. You should have pitted the 124 gr HP against a 124 gr Xtreme Dfs bullet for a more realistic and fairer comparison.

      @blacklight6200 Год назад +5

      @@justafloridamanfromthe75thRR yes the addition weight will carry it farther but that is not why it over penetrated in this test. It over penetrated due to the hollow point cavity filling with material causing the projectile to not expand. This made the projectile behave as a fmj type projectile and caused it to go straight through the entire block ie over penetrating. It could have been a 60 grain projectile and it still would have over penetrated. Yes weight will affect penetration. However, in this test, the effect weight had would have been insignificant due to the probable lack of expansion. Which is what this video was attempting to demonstrate. That even high quality hollow points are outdated and the flaws that come with them primarily being that they get clogged and over penetrate can be over come by this newer FTM projectile that use fluid mechanics to prevent over penetration rather than increasing its diameter. Yes weight affects penetration. But there are so many other factors that also affect penetration that caused weight to be insignificant in this particular test.
