"Monday, Monday" is a 1966 song written by John Phillips and recorded by the Mamas & the Papas, using background instruments played by members of the group.I was 14 when this song was released, 68 today.
Cass, Ellen as she was then, went to high school together in VA, and she had a very special bond with my father. We rejoiced in her success, and were sadden by her death
But in the end it was. Her heart couldn’t keep going and she left a little girl that she loved. Even on these singing shows they don’t get women with voices like that. She had star power.
She actually didn't look as heavy around 24 minutes in the scenes wearing slacks. I think the tent shaped dresses did her no favors, maybe there were not the style options as much for larger women.. . ). Maybe she could have rocked something a little more tapered w the signature go go boots.
@@finallythere100. She dieted. Yo-yo dieting. Up and down. So at times yeah, she looked a little thinner. But it wasn’t permanent. She was about 240 when she died. She could lose weight but would gain it back, which is also very hard on your health. Aside from the obesity itself.
The 60's were such turbulent years, but the best music came out of it. I love folk music and especially the Mamas & Papas. Cass had a incredible voice. Gone too soon.
I can honestly say i truly enjoyed this. I didn’t know much bout Ms. Elliot, except she sang with the group, was on Scooby Doo etc. She seemed like a fun chill person with a lot of talent and a great sense of humor.
I wonder if Mama Cass would have teamed up with Freddie Mercury and Queen what kind of music that would have possibly been like. Freddie and Cass singing together I would have loved to see that.
BGD-Canman : John wrote (among many others) "California Dreamin'," Michelle wrote a verse to it, and Denny sang the lead. That wasn't going to fail, whether Cass was there or not. Cass was very talented, but so were the other three. Don't insult them.

"I saw her Again", ...I will never forget how huge that song was back then. There was nothing like it..we were so crazy about it; playing it hundreds of times over. Wow. What a sound.
I loved, and still love her voice..she was iconic !!! What a beautiful lady, inside and out. She could harmonize with the best of them !!! Such a heavenly voice...so sad that she was taken from us too soon...
WOW! What a great biography! When I was little....around 5 or 6, I took apart every song she sang from the Mama's and the Papas, and thought I was the bomb when belting out her parts. lol She taught me a lot about harmonizing and projecting..... I think because her voice was so distinct no matter who she was singing with, she made a great teacher. Couldn't help but smile singing ANY of her songs. How she could cut through without overpowering or drowning out other singers proves what a true gift she was given. She was her own light. You just can't teach the things she could do naturally. Because of her, I had some amazing experiences singing in my youth. Wish she was still around so I could give her a great big hug and thank her. In two days, she would have been 80, still belting it out with ease, I'm sure. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
She was too beautiful, talented, and charismatic to stay in that group. Loved those go-go boots, and her slick footwork! Such a loss at such a young age!
I had a neighbor in high school who was a nurse. She was easily over 300 pounds, and she could dance in such a phenomenal, rhythmic way that I have never forgotten. Whatever "it" is, she had it. Her son was a drummer for Syracuse University, and they put out a CD of just his drumming. I will never forget the way she could move when she played that CD. Cass reminds me of her. What a beautiful woman!
She was amazing and paved the way for the ones that came after her that didn’t fit the usual thin, pretty model but were original and super talented. Thanks Cass!!!
Every time I heard Cass sing I just melt. She has such a phenomenal voice and astonishing charisma. Her sister Leah also has an amazing voice. You can really hear a similarity between them. Quite a few of Leah's songs are on RUclips.
Too bad most of the world is 100% unaware of what it is that is actually infested inside all TV, on the movie screen and in radio, also infested in 100% ALL media outlets of every single type as they are all 100% owned and operated by the same exact GANG worldwide! Just as all so called bands and singers are 100% paid puppet deceivers that never write their own music "never have and never will!" Never make it to the top. They are all intentionally made famous by the same worldwide "Gang" 100% all of them without exception are inverted transexuals including that MAN Cass Elliott that goes by the fake name Bette Midler today. Bette Midler/Cass Elliot is still a 100% MAN just like the rest of them are all inverted from birth!
No singing show, the Voice, American Idol gets anyone that can sing like Cass did. Powerful and beautiful harmony. They were all in sync with California Dreamin.
Even at a young age myself, I adored Cass for who she was, I knew and felt her charm, joy she brought to the world, but most of all her voice. fell in love with her then, and still love her now. She isn't gone, she's still alive and well in my mind and heart.
I am at 56 years old and I've always loved her songs I don't care if she was big or not but she was a very wonderful singer in our country God bless her when she passed in the 70s
You are right. That fight for recognition of. Her talent instead or her size must have taken a horrific toll on her life. I always loved her for her terrific persona.
It is very rare that at the end of a RUclips video, I'm grinning like a Cheshire cat. I love you, Cass , always have, ever since I was a small child, and my father played the Mamas and Papas first album on his stereo.
She had the best voice, but more than that, she had a love for people that was unparalleled . I loved her music, she was on all the talk shows and all the variety shows, she was very popular. Thanks for this video. Brother Gary
I'm glad I found this tribute as I was and still love my memories of Cass Elliot. One day while driving with the guys in the 60s and hearing Momma Cass sing on the radio, I said, " If Ann Margret could sing like Ma Cass, I would marry her" . My friend responded " If Ann Margret would marry me, I would sing like Cass Elliot!" I've never forgotten the irony of that comment.
The group was abit before my time but I have listened to their music and it's great. Mama Cass made the group. She had an awesome voice and talent. It's such a pity that her weight was focused on. Gone to soon....
Denny and Mama Cass were fantastic harmonizing together ❤ ! A beautiful soul ! Talent personified ! You made your own kind of music 🎶 , and made so many people happy 😊 ! Thank you Mama Cass ! RIP 🙏 ! Sweet dreams !
So...without looking up as I write this...who's alive from the group, Mamas and Papas? The rock-pop quartet had many top hits I liked. "Monday Monday" and "I Saw Her Again Last Night" are my favorites. Everytime I hear those tunes...I remember my love of 1966: L.G.S. Thanks for the fond memories. Good documentary.
I can appreciate the music of The Mama's & Pappa's now more than I could during their hey-day of the 1960's. Although I enjoyed their sounds at that time, the 60's had so many great bands and fantastic music that many bands were overshadowed by some of those other entertainers. All these years later I look back on those days and realize just how truly magical they were.
I remember when I was 5 years old in 1967 hearing the Mama and Papas on 8 track tape at my uncles place and I loved it. I knew exactly who was who in that band at that age. Such soothing harmonies, and he would always put it on for me without asking.

❤️❤️😭 I loved her and her music . She had the voice, and could sing with anyone . Her voice is so recognizable and melodic
She was beautiful. ♥️ R.I.P.
You'll never hear a voice like this again. What a woman, what a legend. RIP Cass. Many thanks for the upload xx
Cass was just the most amazing woman. Such a beautiful soul. Such a beautiful voice.
Her weight is not an issue she can carry herself confidently and got a really a powerful voice.
What bullshit! The woman died of obesity at 32, for God's sake! Tragic!
One of the most talented singers in history. Her voice was golden. I met her for 5 minutes when I was 13. She was so gracious.🌹
🎊 Mama Cass, an eloquent, beautiful voice that will be remembered forever ❤
Yes I agree Cass Elliot a awesome singer ❤️ remembered forever
Love how she goes all James Brown with those moves... 😂 Pure talent!
I wonder if Mama Cass would have teamed up with Freddie Mercury and Queen what kind of music that would have possibly been like. Freddie and Cass singing together I would have loved to see that.
OMGlitter, that would've been epic! Maybe they're rocking out together in heaven.
Without Moma Caas, the whole brand would have failed.
BGD-Canman : John wrote (among many others) "California Dreamin'," Michelle wrote a verse to it, and Denny sang the lead. That wasn't going to fail, whether Cass was there or not. Cass was very talented, but so were the other three. Don't insult them.
@@tamething1 Amen!...So true!
she made them successful. Shame she died so early
I'll say it this way, without Cass Elliot they'd have never gone as far as they did. She was excellent for the group!!!
@@tamething1 Hey thats not an insult, Cass has a pitch and tone to her voice, they had to have, to make them what they all were together. Don't deminish Cass in any way! They were brilliant together! Cass had personality plus, and she had all the moves, too!!!
everyone else bopping and tapping their feet, while Mama Cass is mashing those potatoes...love her!
"I saw her Again", ...I will never forget how huge that song was back then. There was nothing like it..we were so crazy about it; playing it hundreds of times over. Wow. What a sound.
Her daughter must be so proud. And she’s fortunate to have those videos and pictures of Cass! What a talent!
Her voice was just so fantastic. What a talent
Absolutely awesome lady. The whole band was great.
She was amazing and paved the way for the ones that came after her that didn’t fit the usual thin, pretty model but were original and super talented. Thanks Cass!!!
My mother loved Cass Elliot, and the Mamas and Papas. What a beautiful person Cass Elliot was.
Mine also
My mom did too.
Forever in our Hearts 💕 Mama Cass Elliot.. ❤️
Every time I heard Cass sing I just melt. She has such a phenomenal voice and astonishing charisma. Her sister Leah also has an amazing voice. You can really hear a similarity between them. Quite a few of Leah's songs are on RUclips.
Mamas and the Papas were one of my favorite groups, but Cass Elliot was the star. She could really sing. I felt so badly when she died.
Cass was full of life, you can tell the way she moves on stage as she sings. Love this video
Cass is what a True beauty & Talented singer looks & sounds like - nothing like all this terrible stuff on TV, the movie screen & radio today.
Beatles ♥️Girl
We like what we like
Too bad most of the world is 100% unaware of what it is that is actually infested inside all TV, on the movie screen and in radio, also infested in 100% ALL media outlets of every single type as they are all 100% owned and operated by the same exact GANG worldwide!
Not only was she best voice of the M & P but also the best dancer!
Only getting to know who you are. You came before me. You were an awesome entertainer. Sorely missed.
Such a beautiful woman and voice. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
There will always be a special love for Cass Elliott
She was amazing such a beautiful voice and a beautiful person 🙏🏻
I love to hear her sing! Her and Doherty's voices made that group. Michelle may have had the looks, but Cass had the voice!
sad everyone concintrated on her weight she is one in a million
I agree. She was ❤️
@@edithcarter3554 I totally agree
no. she one in 20 billion
You are right. That fight for recognition of. Her talent instead or her size must have taken a horrific toll on her life. I always loved her for her terrific persona.
Great lady. I can`t think of the name of the song but I never liked the reference to her weight in that song of the M`s and P`s.
Cass Elliot had such a beautiful voice awesome singer, so sad she passed away May Cass Elliot RIP 💐🙏💙
Mama Cass has THE GREATEST VOICE EVER!!! ALL other female singers aren't as good as THE GREAT MAMA CASS ELLIOTT!!!❤
Good documentary.

.
RIP Cass I loved you then and i love you still. Your voice lives on forever. Sing and dance with the angels Mama Cass just like you always did .
