Donny Hathaway was just genius to me. His vocals are so real and alive. He had a smokey quality and his licks were fresh. Just a beast! His keyboard was matchless. Truly a genius. If I could reach a tenth of his level I would be pleased.

Check out "For all we know" and Stevie Wonders version of Super Woman..."Where were you when I needed you." I miss that voice. Just discovered though the voice of Frank MCcomb. So far he sounds more like him more than any other imitator.
He could have put his hands in his pockets for the rest of his life and still had a career as a singer, and he could have sewn his mouth shut and still had a career as a jazz/funk/r&b keyboardist. It's such a shame there seems to be very little of his work preserved. He deserves a heck of a lot more respect, that's for sure.

When i saw this on TV Land, i didn’t know who Donny Hathaway was and i took this clip for granted. Fast forward a few years later, I’m into Donny’s music now! What a GREAT singer and musician he was. Flip really put a lot of acts on his show and gave them exposure.

The song was written by Gene MacLellan. Interestingly, he also committed suicide in January as Donny. It was in 1995.
