hm. its very exciting thinking about the potential future this series has in store. Are you going to follow the show For All Mankind and go all the way to mars, or are you going to find a different destination/stopping point?
if Rodina 4 did not explode you wood of lost the moon however trinity 2 lined up with Rodina 5 and in this alternate time line well you of destroyed it???
A LEO assembled lunar lander might be a good way to get a big lander with limited technology. Would also let you use unsafe unmanned rockets to launch most of the mass.
I love the expressions on kerbals faces, it’s like despite them having gone into space multiple times they just forget immediately and they have a fresh face to smile in amazement at the darkness of space
Thanks for the video Beardy! Just wanted to say, it's funny to hear you say you finished your master's degree, since I've been watching non-stop since the Space Race series you did with TAPE and am now in the first year of my aeronautical bachelor. I hope you find luck in whatever you choose to do after uni!
To be honest, I half expected this video to just start with 5 minutes of you swearing like a sailor 😅 In any case, great to have this awesome series restarted 👍
Komrade Brezhnev might decide to send a few more people in the space program to the Moon after this blunder (without suits). All jokes aside, you two have outdone yourselves with those cinematics! Can't wait for my favorite KSP series to return! :)
The Salyut 1 solar panel issues are actually historically accurate. In order to get it out as soon as possible, the Salyut stations just used a bunch of Soyuz parts, which lacked the power to handle such a large station. The early Salyut/Almaz stations didn't have enough power to run their experiments and life support at the same time.
Awesome to see this series back! Space stations in LEO could be good training grounds for cosmonauts ahead of future, longer duration, missions to a lunar orbit space station or the planned moon base, to say nothing of Mars. Exciting steps forward! :)
while im watching this while my friend is downloading ksp realism overhaul on my pc because i lost a bet thinking you wouldnt come back to ksp for all kerbalkind but you did!
Awesome! Looking forward to some Alt-History Soviet spaceplanes, and really looking forward to see what kind of improved lunar lander you come up with. Maybe something along the lines of the LK-700? Not sure if the Tantares parts mods are configured for RP-1, but that could be really cool!
If I were writing your series as a narrative I'd probably have made it so that you *didn't* have that random failure but you *did* need to spend roughly a month researching and refining your better engines. If we're doing a "For All Kerbalkind" series that's your take on a "what if" race up to the moon so far then it makes most 'sense', at least to me, that you have to overcome all of the real N1's issues, and that means a hell of a lot of engine troubles. I feel the best approach probably *would* be to avoid failing as many times as the real N1 failed, as the soviets were pretty allergic to failure, at least in that sort of very public spectacular way, so more research makes the most sense, and that probably shouldn't come cheap either. That'd be a very 'Soviets are now strong, have become scarily professional and are real threat' type of story that I feel works very well in the For All type of universe. The other alternative is to narratively make them panic and therefore have *way* more tolerance for failures, and you just show failure after failure until eventually it gets better and works. That's be a very "russian"/'western pop culture' way of depicting it and either had the potential of being very gripping as a story. So basically you ended up getting a watered down and somewhat anticlimactic version of what probably *should* have been an issue for your N1 programme the whole time (in more of a way than it was, given you didn't have any catastrophic first stage failures), it's just a shame that it came in the form of a single RNG roll as opposed to an issue you were grappling with
one of my friends is doing mechanical engineering at bristol He had to design a rover in a group. He and his friends couldn't be bothered to do the paperwork they needed to access their uni's sand pit. They went to a sand pit in a park, shooed away the children and did their testing there. I'd like to see if you can top that beardy
i'd love to see you do the russian TMK missions! (there's multiple different ways they'd have gone, here's the list) crewed mars train base combo small mars base crewed venus/mars flyby combo simple crewed mars flyby + a bunch of probes and such strapped to the craft
love watching this series between you all! love the different approaches. out of curiosity... is there any non-RO/RP-1(or whatever mod adds that) equivalent mod that has you launch satellites and hand them off to customers? cause that sounds like a fun way of making money rather then the same old tourism contracts in my current career save. And all my other modded contracts offer pennies as reward for contract completions..
Even though this is the last crewed flight of the N1 I really hope you utilize it for interplanetary missions. A mercury landing perhaps? Or a big probe to the gas giants.
I just imagine Berady and the ghost of the ussr must be having a drink at the bar a tea mixed with vodka just mumbling incoherently about how they would of won the moon race if their launch vehicle was more reliable
Hey Beardy, I've been a fan for a long time. I was in my freshman year of college when I found you, and It was really cool to see someone my age playing Kerbal so well. Congrats on finishing your degree! I hope that wherever you go in life after this, you keep doing Kerbal. But, if you decide you should move on from gaming, that's also totally fair. I wish you all the best
Hey beardy, I was wondering how you launch into a lunar transfer plane from Baikonur. I can't seem to figure out how to actually get my inclination aligned with the moon, which is a problem for me early on as I lack relight capability to adjust my inclination after making orbit
Set the moon as a target then open up mechjeb's rendezvous planner. Launch when relative inclination is at a minimum (17.56 degrees) then intercept the moon at the ascending or descending node :)
was there no irl concept for what to do after the first lunar lander and n1? you would think that they at least came up with an idea since that lander isnt good for a whole lot more than just a short, 1 person landing
Soviet technology has advanced so much, you can see a laptop inside Salyut 1 at 29:51. Our computer technology is light-years ahead of those greedy Americans!
Congratulations on finishing your degree Beardy! Looking forward to your video about the venus rover! the successor to "Slava" vehicle, should be "Ukraine" 😁 Obviously to honor Korolev homeland!
My advice is to take Computer Science at A level rather than further maths. You get taught all the additional maths you need to know, yet you're expected to just know how to code (python and a bit of C++). I did Aeronautics and Aeronautics with Spacecraft Engineering at the University of Southampton. Good luck!
@@TheBeardyPenguin thank you so much! I am already doing computer science! I have been looking at Southampton but the with the cost of living going up, it might be too expensive 😕
Great video! Had to point out that your pronunciation of Меч (Sword) is wrong - it's not "meh" but "mech". Take the "me" part from "memo" and the "ch" part sounds like in "challenger". I strongly suggest using Yandex Translate to get the pronunciation right, it's similar to Google Translate but built by Russians and therefore better when it comes to voice overs. Google often mangles the intonation when it comes to Russian words.

The Earth in the background during the speech was a nice touch! Man I picked a good landing spot huh? ;)

Will the series end it when you guys land on Mars?
Please use the pentaborane rocket at least once... that toxic green flame is worth any possible health related consequences, right?
🤮🚀
100% that's why I blew 4 million funds on a new launch complex! :D
PENTABORANE RAAHHHH
gotta love it when you completely sacrifice the health of your staff just for 20 extra seconds of ISP, I approve
It sure does look good when DarkHerring uses it I tell you what.
UDMH also being cancer jucie in the background: noice
So good to be watching again! This is my favorite RUclips series.
Feels good man
A LEO assembled lunar lander might be a good way to get a big lander with limited technology.
Would also let you use unsafe unmanned rockets to launch most of the mass.
N2 could launch a large ascent stage, bout the mass of a lander, with the Soyuz hopefully.
Delighted to see For All Kerbalkind back! Congrats on your degree, can’t wait to see the video on your thesis.
I’m going into Aerospace Engineering and you have been an inspiration to me throughout your last few series, and I can’t wait for the next episode!
Is it christmas? No! It is an UPLOAD SCHEDULE! ITS BETTER THAN CHRISTMAS!

So awesome seeing this come back. And as for finishing your degree, congratulations dude! I finished my undergrad this year back in May!

The return of this series brings huge joy to me, thanks Bready and N9!!!!!
Welp, I caught up with the series finally. I was devastated with the Red Moon video, since I've only been watching the Soviet progress.
OMG! Love the Buran, Energia as well. Congrats on your masters!
I needed to refresh my page to make sure it wasn’t a dream

It's great to see this series back, here's to hoping your first few missions to salyut don't go (or more accurately end) as terribly as they did irl.
This was a real treat. Great to have you back. Hope you are well and that you get a top grade in your degree.

Yeah, hydrolox upper stages and a 2 person lander like I'm doing, but beyond that there were no designs or concepts
hey, the music around 12:00 seems familiar to me. where do you know it from? i've encountered that song many times in one of the games i play.

Noooo, can't believe Milli's first flight resulted in an abort! 😢
Glad her second flight was more successful!
What are those cool N-1 graphics at the end?
Maybe the N-2 could have a similar layout to N1 but use fewer better engines?
The graphics are fan art submitted on my discord
The N2 will look similar, it'll just have hydrolox upper stages
yoooo ITS BACK!
the roles here definitely feel reversed with post-moon landing

If that was a last mission of N-1, will you use UR-700 for multi-crew lunar landing?
Also, LK-700 lander can bring 3 cosmonauts to lunar surface, and it's direct-ascend.
New episodes!
Need BDArmory for the almaz stations and polyus orbital weapons platform
Using your IRL degree to launch better missions? That's cheating! Typical Soviet behavior... :)
