Interesting point about the velocity for cymbals as well. People who program their drums, take note of stuff like this -- use multiband distortion and saturation to make cymbals cut, turn the note velocities down, 40-50's range
first of all I would like to thank you for your complex reaction!!!!!!!!! and next I would like to tell you that I have been a music lover for 50 years in many different musical genres, and have been a musician myself for several decades, but when I stumbled across Jinjer 8 years ago I immediately realized that this is more than music, this is magic........... this band is so much more than metal, it is pure poetry also in terms of Tatis lyrics!!!!!! And then there's the fact that all 4 of them are absolutely humble, intelligent people with a high level of emotional intelligence. In the last 50 years, I have rarely been so fascinated by a group dynamic as with Jinjer. You have now gotten to know them a little, which I am very pleased about, because I noticed that you also felt the fascination that emanates from this band. You don't need to react to the 2 latest songs they've released in the last 4 weeks, but listen to them privately and you'll realize that what you've heard and seen now will continue... JINJER - Someone's Daughter (Official Video) JINJER - Rogue (Official Video) Even after 8 years i still don't know exactly how to describe this band > i laugh, i cry, i am confident and desperate at the same time when i hear and see Jinjer. thanx so much! warm greetings from germany > subbed I would like to buy you coffee via Paypal, can I do that too?
When it comes to their track record of released songs, I have never heard a song I don't vibe with. And that doesn't happen often in general. I'm just happy to co-exist on the same timeline with them.
There is now a drum and bass playthrough of one of their newest songs "Someone's Daughter" that apparently was recorded when 15 of us were waiting to get into the Ogden Theater for the VIP meet and greet event.
The 3 songs they played here are all from the 2021 4th album, Wallflowers. Vortex is is the lead single, and my favorite, from that record. Love how low Tati gets at the end. It's not almost like proggy, it IS proggy, they also use djent , groove metal, metalcore, jazzy, sometimes reggae or hip hop. Vlad does have jazz in his background, idk but your guess about the old jazz style drum setup might be close. Yeah, he is very good with the ghost notes. Tatiana admits that she really doesn't take care of her voice, she even smokes, she might have quit but I don't know. She just goes out and does it. Not sure if the guys are married, they might be. Tatiana is definitely married, to Alex Lopex, current touring drummer for P.O.D. As they said , they left everything behind in Ukraine. The first move was when the fighting started in 2014, check out the music video for "Home Back" which is about that time period in their homeland. As for a playthrough video, the band's channel is 'Jinjer Metal Band', posted on there about a month ago is the Vlad drum playthrough for "Call Me A Symbol". They have also recently released 2 new songs , "Someone's Daughter" came out last month, great clean/harsh mix. And "Rogue" just dropped 2 days ago, all harsh vocal.
Thank you for that reaction. That extra hi hat is a cable hat that works similar to bicycle breaks with a cable. He doesn't hit it it's just for a different hat close sound. That 14 is actually a rack but it's down where a first floor tom would normally be. They use tracks very tastefully. I did drums and vocals professionally and did audio engineering for 20 years beginning in the mid 70s. I remember some bands who could afford it and risk it taking reel to reel machines on tour. If the tech like in-ears and DAWs were available then those bands would have used them live. I never want to hear people talk about the "old days" like none of that would have happened then. Those days were never quite as good as people remember. I sang backups from the FOH position more than once. Nobody knew where the parts were coming from but they were there. I don't care what some fans say if they came to hear their favorite song live and it sounded thin and lifeless they would complain. Sure you don't want someone up there who looks like they are playing but they aren't but adding parts? I don't see the issue with it. Vlad has several drum playthroughs. One of the best ones is for their song Mediator. The second song Wallflower is about Tatiana being an introvert and about the band pressuring her to get her lyrics done for the album and she just wanted to chill alone. The music video depicts this situation quite well. It's actually remarkable how she can be as introverted as she is and yet go out on stage and sing and dance like a maniac. She walks off stage and turns that off. Tatiana is married to Alex Lopez the drummer for POD.
Quickly becoming one of my favourite reactors for sure! Such good insights and appreciation. As for drum playthroughs, Vlad’s done quite a lot - my pick for you would be “Call Ne A Symbol”. It’s just fucking brutal with some moments of the most beautiful singing ever. 🤘🏻
Lol Jinjer is ukrainian proggy djent groove metal with complex time-signature maze, polyrhythms and multi-genre blending. They are one of the most talented 4-pieces and Tati is one of the best overall metal vocalists and lyricists in the business. Jinjer - Someone's Daughter (Official Video) Jinjer - Rogue (Official Video) Jinjer - Perennial (Live At Wacken 2019) Jinjer - Pit of Consciousness (Live in Kiev) Jinjer - On The Top (Live in Kiev) Jinjer - Who Is Gonna Be The One (Official Live)
The drum playthrough for "Copycat" is a must. If you do "Mediator" as others have suggested, it ONLY showcases Vlad (you can't hear Tati or much of anything else), so if you decide to do it, I highly recommend making it a double feature, where you react to the drum playthrough first, immediately followed by the OMV. Just my 2 cents. Great reaction, subbed!
Awesome reaction! 🤘 I love this Audiotree video, both for the conversation and the awesome live performances. I'm especially glad that they included a performance of "Dead Hands Feel No Pain", which has no OMV and gets too little attention (there is a drum playthrough, but it's a bit marred by so-so lighting & camerawork plus distracting CGI). The guitarwork in that song is fantastic, and the fact that Tati figured out how to fit wonderfully haunting melodies over the crazy guitar lines is pretty miraculous. Tatiana has written numerous song's lyrics about mental health struggles, including "Vortex", the first one they performed in the Audiotree video. The lyrics are excellent. Another example is "Perennial", in which Tatiana uses the annual cycle of nature as a metaphor for the experience of seasonal affective disorder. The Live at Wacken Open Air 2019 performance is well worth a reaction. There are several excellent Jinjer drum playthroughs on RUclips: 1. Perhaps the most impressive is Mediator Live. Vlad plays along with live instrumentals sans vocals, and the video includes a footcam if memory serves. Since it's an awesome song, I'd make it a double feature reaction, starting with the official music video and ending with the drum playthrough. 2. I'm partial to the "Under The Dome" drum playthrough because it's a great song that doesn't get much attention, & the drumming is incredible! Vlad plays along to the studio track. 3. Vlad joined the band just after the release of the 2016 studio album King of Everything. Vlad's predecessor, Dmitry Kim, is a fantastic drummer who played on that album, and he has a great playthrough for the song "Captain Clock" (he plays along to the studio track). I'm a bit torn recommending this drum playthrough because there's an equally great (maybe even better?) guitar playthrough by Roman for the same song, and Roman really deserves more attention for his incredible work in Jinjer! (He plays along to the studio track sans vocals.) If you react to either of these playthroughs, I'd recommend finishing up with a reaction to the official live (Official Live at Resurrection Fest EG 2018, featuring Vlad on drums). The sound quality, especially for the guitar, isn't very good, but Tatiana's performance is worth it. 4. "Call Me A Symbol" is a great track, and a great drum track, and the drum playthrough measures up very well. Vlad plays along to the full studio track. You don't really need to supplement the drum playthrough, but I'm very partial to Tatiana's performance in Jinjer _ Call Me A Symbol (Live) - Hellfest 2022. The sound quality in that live video isn't as good as in the Live in Los Angeles video, but the lighting is better (daytime festival performance), and you need to see Tatiana to fully appreciate her charisma as a performer. Cheers!
I'm here for it all, Jesse. Started with you when you began covering The Warning, you introducing the community to Freeze the Fall, then touching on some Ren and now your second Jinjer video. Another band coming out with new material soon should be Bloodywood. Self tagged as "Indian Folk Metal". Their debut album really hits, and they are a really solid group of humans as well. More Jinjer, TW, FtF, Ren and maybe try out our brothers from India at some point.
Addendum: Bloodywood are independent (the first album was anyway), so you should have no copyright issues with covering their videos. In fact, they encourage reactors to expose their communities to the offerings they have, much in the same way Ren does.
they have a lot of songs that you should react to, amazing songs, we never know what to expect from each song or what direction it will take, no repetitive choruses
I've never seen this one, it's awesome. I could be wrong but I think the drummer used to be the guitar player and Pieces was a premier of him as a drummer. (Heard this second hand) he reminds me of Danny Carey in the way he approaches drumming. Not skill or even style necessarily but he looks at it like a jazz drummer and then turns up the intensity. Tatiana is one of the vocalists in the vocal research the The Charismatic Voice is doing, and I'm curious to see the results on hers for sure.
@@BeardyBlokey - Vlad was never a pianist _per se._ He said in an interview that he had a hard time preparing for the Rachmaninov video because he hadn't played piano since his last lesson at the institute, which was even before he started playing in bands. He only set out to do it because 2020, he had lots of spare time and very little to do.
IIRC on this tour and performance, Roman (guitarist) was still using his Fender Supersonic 100 head into his custom 4x12 Lungo by Coffee Cabs. That was hooked into a Helix that also sends IRs to FOH and his in ears. He's been using that setup for a while. When I saw them earlier this year during one of their make-up shows from the tour this performance was from, I was on Roman's side of the stage and didn't see any amps. I read somewhere that they had switched to a Quad Cortex, but I'm not sure on that. Regarding their personal lives: Eugene (bassist) is married with two kids, he's really big into Jiu Jitsu. Vlad (drummer) is a classically trained pianist and has a GF, she did the makeup on their OMV for Someone's Daughter. I don't know if Roman has anyone now, but he used to and shared it on Insta. The boys all live in Europe, I don't think they're in Ukraine anymore because of the war. Tati lives in Cali with her husband Alex Lopez, the former drummer of Suicide Silence. The web of people that have been associated with Jinjer is vast. Despites this, the band is still close to most of the former members. When I saw them for their make-up show, the opening band Evermorphing's lead singer is Maks Fatullayev...Jinjer's original singer. He's married to Jinjer's Merch Manager Jane. The OMV for Disclosure has Dmitriy Oksen as the main villain. He used to be their second guitarist alongside Roman and was the last founding member. Dmitriy runs a clothing company with Sasha, their live engineer who's been on tour with them for years. Their last drummer Dmitry Kim, who played before Vlad, mixes and masters their live sound recordings.
You should react to the "twin" King of Everything songs Tatiana was talking about (Prologue is the intro and Beggars' Dance is the outro). I don't want to spoil anything, I'm just going to say that the outro will be something that will make you go "is this Jinjer???" 😄
Just think. They write complete musical compositions, and she listens to them, and just takes the lyrics wherever she's inspired to go. Also, you're right. Totally identify with your struggles, and when you share, we can all ultimately support each other (even from afar). Tatiana also has expressed a lot on the subject (in fact she relayed how the entire lyrical content of the Wallflowers album resulted from her letting out these feelings).
I know for sure that they used to blend the guitar and part of the bass signal in a live context - not sure about their current setup. Basically, to create almost the illusion of another guitarist on stage, they would route the attack and fundamental portion of the bass signal through an ENGL amp model and pan that hard opposite of Roman's guitar signal. I know Eugene uses a modified MXR distortion in his chain now but I am not sure if they still do a similar thing with the routing and panning. It sounds like maybe so
Brutal, isn’t it? I never had any mental health battles or anxiety or anything until just a few years ago, then when I had my first panic attack I straight up went to the hospital thinking something was incredibly wrong.
