Out of all my favorite bands and artists, Joe's tone is the best. He has a great mix of the vintage tube amp sound with a more modern take. His use of pedals never drown out the sound and each note rings out to perfection. Perfect blend of player, guitar, and amp.
This was my favorite Satriani song to jam in the ambulance while responding to rescue calls when I was a Firefighter/Paramedic (Disabled now). Back then we had a tape deck in a couple of our rigs. I would turn our actual FD communication radio up and then crank this song for a couple of minutes on the way to the call. Two of my partners back then were more into much older, softer rock, but they always like it when it was my day to choose the music (Driver chooses the tunes) and I played this one. It's an awesome sound for those short trips to get on location while driving fast (safely) with lights and siren on.
Been playing 25 years, mostly satriani - and let me tell you, this is as epic today as it was when I was 14 - the guy is an absolute monster. I got distracted temporarily by the new style of shred etc - and even doubted satriani's epicness because I could play a few songs - but I am having a second wave of teenage idolism (if that's a word) at 40 - and this brings a tear to my eye - just jaw dropping - I also loved to listen to the satriani audiobook of strange beautiful music - this guy had a huge affect on my life and still does - god bless this guy - the top of the mountain of guitarists - the king of kings - the GOAT
