Butter is able to trap terpenes and other molecules from vegetables that would normally escape when cooking vaporizes these nutritious substances.
Could the fat in eggs also trap nutrients that would otherwise be lost to heat or vaporization?
Study indicates that keeping vegans on the edge of their seats for so many videos was the risk factor for increase strokes
ha, ha, excellent!
So funny 😂😂😂
Reminds of a song 'You keep me hanging on'
hahahaha absolut best comment
LOL
If the conclusion is that we don't know I swear I will eat an entire box of vegan icecream.
I'll have a beer.....still no cholesterol.
I am probably going to do that anyway.
It will be revealed, patience :D
@@kristinar1583 I like that you haven't spoiled the answer :)))
😂
Nobody, and I mean nobody, pronounces the word "rrrrrrandomised" like our Dr. Greger! 👍😊
If this is another cliffhanger, I'll go rogue.
Edit: *WRRAAAAAARRRGHGHGHHH*
OMG, the suspense is killing me
Omega-3 good fats I bet...your 4 to 1 Omega ratio
Can Dr. Greger actually cause strokes by stringing us along for weeks? We won't know until we... put it to the test.
in a few months I know everything about nutrition EXCEPT the cause of the higher stroke risk for vegetarians
I love this series!
I used to eat no fat in a diet recommended to marathoners. But then, my doctor told me that my good cholesterol (HDL) is too low (about 20); not good for cardiovascular health. I resumed eating fat, and my HDL came back up and reached 40. Is it possible that when the Japanese ate more fat, their good cholesterol increased helping reduce their stroke risk? What is the relation of HDL and stroke risk? Thanks in advance Dr Greger!
Excellent point
Ouch! The endless cliffhangers!!!
This is becoming a telenovela.
😂👌
OMG this rabbit hole goes much deeper than expected! Thank you Dr. Greger!
3:20 _"six spoonfuls of salt a day!"_ overdub 🤣
Although the newest format with Dr. Greger in-screen talking is visually interesting, it is not good for trying to read the text shown in the video. Dr. Greger is too animated which distracts from fully grasping the usefulness of the data shown. If the goal is to show the data... why distract attention with Dr. Greger on the screen?
Not only is he far too animated (personally I find it not only distracting but annoying) he is swaying the viewer's judgment towards his own biases using inflections in the tone of his voice.
Thanks Dr Greger. I love these videos! Could you please turn down the volume on the intro music? Or maybe change it back to the previous one? Thanks.
I could listen to uncle Gregs the whole day, thank you !
Dr Greger in the year 2032 "...and we'll continue to search for the answer in the next video..."
Dr Greger you save my life
Same.
NAILED It!!!!!! 🥕🥔🍏🍎🍈🍌🍍🥭🍅🥒🌶🥯🥖🥗🎇🥇🥇🥇
Just release the 4 hour video
lol
The suspense of these videos causes strokes in vegans.
Hahaha, the intrigue though...
It's sodium intake, you can all relax now
The answer is B12 *deficiency*, for those (like myself) who are sick and tired of these nonsense cliffhangers.
It's not nonsense, it teaches you to think, analyze, and research.
@@Soul_Younes No it doesn't. It's just frustrating.
@@biot7175 His webinar.
@Citizenthirteen High homocysteine is caused by B12 deficiency in this case.
@Steven L. Because they are frustrating.
Mr. Salt is getting nervous as the inevetible conclusion closes in on him. Lol
😫 tell us already! The suspense is brutal!
I knew Japanese ate a lot of salt but I didn't think they ate THAT much salt before being Westernized in their diet. Interesting. The effects of cholesterol on ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke also seems interesting. Can't wait for the next video for mention of a very important factor.
Japan did not westernised in 50,60 and started eating western diet, they were recovering from ww2 bombings and all destruction with it and just started eating morelike they eated before. Western diets realy kicked off in the 80s and all the shit that come with it.
Thank you!🥀
I hope you find it! That study about higher stroke risks in vegetarian troubles me!
I don't think so that opting for veganism or vegetarianism can keep you healthy and strong. Just choose a balanced diet with lots of fluids, fruits, vegetables, pulses, and do simple exercises for your body and mind. Happiness is a strong factor for being healthy and active. Nothing will bring happiness if you are starving or not eating what you like. Always remember that everyone's body is not the same, so go with the choices of your body.
Mr Greger, a man that I would love to have in my best friends
vegetarians still eat animal products like eggs, cheese and dairy all high in saturated fat ...so these studies would have to use vegans in a seperate group from vegetarians to make it more accurate... I would think.
Really highlights how interesting and complex nutritional science really is. So much fun to look into these matters in depth.
What That Factor is? 😂 5:58
Nice steak, I think...;)
I had a hemorrhagic stroke in 2013. I always ate too much salt and only a few years ago I realized that the cause of my stroke was not a born predisposition as I was told. It was the salt!!! I always had low blood pressure, therefore was never too concerned about my salt intake.
The crystals of salt can tear apart the arteries wall. Like a knife attacking the arteries wall. That was what happened to me!!!
Exciting, very exciting... though I hope the resolution will be next time :-)
That's right folks, don't touch that dial!
Can someone Please do a TL;DR for me? Can't stand these videos anymore and Dr G's unnecessary distracting presence. Liked them when they were just charts and graphics. Love what you do Dr. G, but you're meant for the theatre with your on screen presence, and not for educational nutrition videos. Producers...Please, for the love of all that is good and decent...fix this format and revert to previous one.
What is the upper safe limit for salt/sodium consumption? Are there any benefits to consuming salt, if one sticks to a low salt diet?
In his previous videos, he has recommended no added salt as there is enough in whole plant foods. We don’t need much at all and more raises risk of stomach cancer and blood pressure
The recommended cap is 2400mg. I've seen some videos from Dr greger saying a 1500mg cap is better.
@@brandonswan9247 That's sodium, not salt. For salt, it's 6g (or 4.5g in the US recommendation). But the lower, the better. I do 3.5g of salt on average.
@@brandonswan9247 Id say under 1500mg of sodium is optimal and upper limit 2000mg, minimal physiological need are around 150-200mg a day if not sweating a lot, if you are sweating a lot, go for 500mg a day and drink at thirst and not too much.
Zero haha
I can’t take much more of the cliffhangers!🤯
So the logic in this one is that the Japanese strike risk went down because the western diet forced them to use less salt. Man, if you don't hard enough you can make anything correlate with anything. I'm sure the stroke rate went down with the increased use of English loan words too.
I'm really glad that wasn't the final stroke comment because it was bewildering. And the implication was the next one will also NOT be the final statement.
The Japanese have 10X - 100X more Iodine in their diet which is very protective against some cancers such as prostate and breast cancer. The Japanese eat LOTS of fermented foods, miso, natto, pickled vegetables, pickled plums etc. which are very good for your gut microbiome where 70% - 80% of your immunity resides.
Great Series!!
First, also great video. Keep it up 👍
Dr. Greger: Lord of cliffhangers.
The longer you keep this suspense up Doc, the longer meat eaters will refrain from going vegan!!!
Love the content!
You mean his previous zillion videos aren't enough for them to switch?
Maybe all that salt came from Miso....
I'm done eating food
Seems like only alternative
Nice
THIS ISN’T EVEN MY FINAL FORM!!!
Oh the suspence is killing me.
I’m beginning to think whole food plant based with the addition of a few organic pasteurized eggs and a serving or two of wild caught salmon per week may be the most sensible way to go.
Strange, If you read on you find a completely different story and nothing to do with any Asian country. Nothing to do with fats at all. He's pulling it out of the air.
What about the potassium balancing affect on salt consumption?
that cancer thing in japan, wonder what those numbers are like in the cities you nuked
salt is my weakness. I wish morningstar would reduce their sodium by 75%
Yes! I also wish they would make more of their products vegan, and with less oil. But, that's why I only eat the store bouught fake stuff one meal per week.
@@carmadefries3729 I eat it twice a day. Help me..... I put amla powder and red cloves on it in hopes to make it healthier (and some other stuff)
When in the states I used to call them. I've emailed them from many places in the meantime. They told me it's needed and not really so much sodium. I said considering what I actually consume, it is a lot. It would taste good without it. It's a food preserved in the freezer so salt isn't needed for that. They just kept stating what one small serving had in sodium and how it's healthy. I kept stating vegans eat more than a serving size and we have other options.
@@freedomdividendnews5042 make easy homemade bean burgers, tofu burgers, tofu chik'n, oatsausage patties, textured vegetable protein dishes, seitan everything from vital wheat gluten, cauliflower buffalo wings, use Butler soy curls since the only ingredient is soy, have more tempeh since it's less processed and it's fermented. This time, I read the comments first before watching to see if it's another cliffhanger or if we'll have the answer lolll. I am pretty sure the conclusion is that WFPB vegan>Junk food vegan> meat eater
From the layout of the covered stroke risks I am guessing there is one more cliff hanger and then the final answer.....hope I don't have a stroke waiting to see the answer!
HA! My guess was right!
Sooo... basically don't eat pre-packaged foods and you'll be fine. We're all gonna die eventually anyway. The trick is to not let your food choices be the one that does you in.... sounds more painful.
I like to new opening doc
You’ve gotten very tedious and boring by dragging out this topic for so long.
I need a double blind placebo study done for 100% vegan, very low oil/sugar, but use moderate amounts of salt. I'm struggling with it.
Optimal intake is under 1500mg of sodium (not salt) a day, upper limit 2000.
Doctor, I think you need to up your game to something a little more sophisticated than age old marketing tactics. I here that genetics is all the new rage. Just think of all those "Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNP)" out there just waiting to be explained. I'm curious as to what the data is saying about your RUclips viewership at this point.
The age-old marketing tactic he's using here is called "giving information."
How do you actually eat that much salt? Surely all your food would just be 'salt flavour' and you'd always be parched.
I hope that we will get the answer before i get my vegan stroke!!!
Blood too thin from excess of flax and chia??
I have had to stick with 1 tablespoon, otherwise had repeated bleeding into my eyes.. This also happened to a girlfriend.
Esp when you add vitamin D and fish oil supplements.
yea, dont you just hate it when your eyes are bleeding
Have you checked your platelet count? You may have an underlying disease that needs to be checked by a hematologist.
Probably the fish sups. I eat loads of chia n flax and never experience bleeding issues.
@@lukeweaver9287 you mean your eyes arent splurting out blood right now? that is so wieeeerd
Stop giving us blue balls already! 😩
Let me guess... it’s got to be IRON that the vegetarians lack, causing the increased stroke risk. Am I right Dr. of suspense?
lmfao
B12. there you go.
This guy is not physically or psychologically fit. Why is he still being put out there is a iconic vegan/vegetarian spokes person?
Where and when did you dig up these papers you're producing from 1960 all over the place with backing at all?
What if vegans increase their vitamin k intake would that help?
Are you f-ing kidding me? This is worse than The Lord Of The Rings. I don't care what the answer is at this point...

Previously on dr greger....... Dude, get to a conclusion
Even if saturated fat would have a protective effect than just add a little coconut oil to one meal. That would still be better than animal products.
Dr greger does not recommend Coconit oil.
@@stephenhowell8341 that wasn't the point at all. I am theorizing about what one should rather take for saturated fat IF it were true, that said saturated fat would have a protective use against stroke. I am guessing coconut oil has a less harmful impact overall than animal products so it would be a better option IF the assumption was true.
True

These videos are tedious and not well done. I appreciate Dr. Greger's support for plant-based diets but he has lost credibility with me by touting plant-based diets as the answer to every malady. I have some chronic issues and reading Dr. Greger's articles on them was disappointing, he was simplistic and uninformed.
You are funny!

So basically we learned nothing from this video nor the previous three videos???
I learned that excess salt causes higher stroke death and higher stomach cancer rates.
@@brandonswan9247 Old news
I learned japanese eat an extreme intake of sodium from their traditional foods but i knew it caused stomach cancer and much more stroke.
@Leonardo Da Vinci Hey Hippocrates, maybe the video series isn’t meant for know-it-all’s.
It's Vitamin K2!!!!

Easiest thing is to just skip ahead to the last minute and avoid the "blind alley" bs. "Thanks" doc
Reading the news-- if vegans read the news more often than non-vegans, that would explain the internal head explosions.
