One in a series of videos filmed during Doyle Dyke's in-store performance on 7/11/12 at Austin Bazaar (Austin, Texas), presented by Guild Guitars as part of their Master Performance Series. In this video Doyle plays a modified double cutaway hollowbody Gretsch which originally belonged to Jerry Reed. Gretsch's Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Series is modeled after this guitar and other '60s hollowbody models.

Doyle played at our church a few years ago. What an awesome man that loves his work but loves the Lord more.
He made it sound like there were three on stage! Truly a gifted guitar player. Gifted as in from God.
Doyle is one of the best guitar players in the world... don't forget that friends.
Also an incredibly humble guy. He’s been to my church.
@EastTexasClapDoctor 798 I agree.
@Sea-Dawg I'm French, sorry but I dont exactly understand that you write. 🤔
@Sea-Dawg Thank you, I understand now. I saw videos playing with his father. 👍
Ok then
Doyle is a walking encyclopedia of the guitar. Great guy.
I miss Jerry Reed. He was a talented guitarist and actor. :)
Never heard a better sounding Gretsch (live), since I started listening to Chet in 1964
@Oded Hen did you even watch the video?
Not may guys can touch Jerry or Chet's guitar and make it sing the way they did. Doyle is the man.
Watching and listening to Doyle play just makes me feel good. God Bless You Sir
I'm 58 years old and it's the first time I've seen and heard Doyle play!! Where the hell have I been, man?
Just incredible. And so enjoyable. 👌
Yeah where you been? Well at least you're here now!
The video had been over for a couple of minutes before I could finally stop shaking my head in awe
Saw Doyle at the Guitar Center in Austin, May 2003, demoing Taylor guitars & his Signature Series guitar. One of the best pickers in America.
This is beautifull playing could listen to this all day.
My opinion is that Doyle is the greatest finger pick guitarist alive, and generally one of the greatest living guitarists, period. The tone coming from that Jerry Reed Country Gentleman is otherworldly. Phenomenal playing and tone, continuing Chet's legacy. Thank You Doyle.
Agreed.. one of the... if not THE best.. amazing
Doyle is good and I like his playing, but, Richard Smith is the best alive today as he is a master of both Chet and a master of Jerry Reed styles and the guy is also a master of Django style too!
Grestch should release this as like a limited edition custom shop guitar. I'd buy one!
Incredible playing and beautiful guitar.
i could listen to him all day...
The apex of anything you can do with a guitar. all genres included. When Steve Howe does his Chet Atkins stuff, you can hear a pin drop and all mouths are dropped open.
My family and I have known Doyle for years...He is an amazingly talented man and super nice!
Gett'n grey ole big brother! I miss him. still have my guitars he gave me; long story. Spirit is willing but my body isn't. Dexterity is still with me tho! Keep spreading the word about Doyle; he's a phenomenon in many ways; guitarist, humanitarian and a good friend.
Super talent and a great man. I have only met him twice. Once in Hawkins and once in Longview, Texas. Both times he was the most down to earth musician I have ever met. He insisted that I hold Jerry's red guitar in a pic we took togeather.
Windy and Warm -- had that on an old 45 RPM - played it to death. Couldn't get over what a great tune that was and with great, Chet Atkins style guitar pickin'.
Doyle is a great player and a true gentleman. Well done...
RIP JR
he is amazing... i´d love to come somewhere close to this.
There is a very, very, high mountain with a broad summit. Merle, Chet, Jerry, Tommy, Lenny, Doyle, and several others are all there.
Oh, don't forget Danny Gatton!
Amazing (and I have been playing for over 40 years)
Always fun to watch him
WOW
Both Tommy and Chet revered this man. That means hes just as good if not better than they are...
I believe that song is called "A Little Bit of the Blues," written by Jerry Reed, performed by Chet in the early 60's. Love that song!! And this fella plays it just like Chet did.
That is obvious,legendary
absolutely beautiful!
Now THATS guitar playin!
recently discovered this ABSOLUTE MONSTER OF A GUITAR PLAYER....one of the very best I ever heard
Totally enjoyed this. Great music played well.
Masters of the guitar. Love all these players
Another great guitar player, Wow!.
Love it ! Thanks Doyle !
Guitar playing at it's best
absolutely sick. in a good way.
Would that more fellow "Guitarist/Musicians" had Doyle's attitude!! When he mentioned Merle, and Chet's style, he was QUICK to add, "Not Better, Just Different! There's only "One-Each" of us, and that includes Tommy E.! Why can't we get past our own petty self importance, and appreciate the "differences" that God has provided??
Tommy E. isn’t worthy to carry Chet, Merle, or Doyles case.
fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!
Merle played with his thumb and index finger. Chet played with his thumb, index and middle finger. Doyle plays with his thumb, index, middle and ring finger. Does that make him better? Nah, only different. Doyle can sure cover a lot of ground with his style and his chops. One of the very best ever.
saw Jerry at knotts berry farm back in 77
He sure can pick!
I got to play 2 of Doyle’s guitars.. owned at the time by a mutual friend. I was giddy yes
My uncle Harvey played a gretsch!... i think Doyle owns it now.
Can someone tell me what song he is playing at @1:26
Good grief I'll give up playing now. He owns that gretsch! Man that is some playing!
Great instrument this guitar
Playing Coach Red's guitar!
great GRESTH tone
Jerry always said he wasn't a guitar player, he was a guitar thinker. I think he was both in spades. Rest In Peace Chester Burton Atkins and Jerry Reed Hubbard.
brilliant
But he IS brilliant in his own right.
those are both Merle travis' song called "guitar rag" you hear him play the first section- then he stops and talks for a second and plays the rest (although there is more to the song) any its a great tune.
nice
How Bazaar is that ? You have great audio on Jerry's guitar - but you can't have audio on Doyle's Voice as he talks about Jerry's style etc ?
If you were to close your eyes when Doyle plays some of Chets music you would swear it was Chet.
Come on, don't stop keep playing
Don't know the 1st one, but it's obviously a Jerry Reed tune. The 2nd song is titled, "Yes, Maam."
HOW DOES HE REMENBER SO MUCH
I’d give my right arm to play like that !!!
how could you possible thumbs down this?
Rick Danner so I can be amused??
yes ma'am
What does his electric guitar look like? The one he played on those Waylon Jennings albums.
Actually I've learned that set him up with a TV deal in the future and I imagine that played a role...
That tune at 1.30 is called Yes Maam
Who cares? He's better than you could ever be in your wettest of dreams
What is the first song soyle is playing?🥲🙏
I'd be greatly appreciative to know the names of the songs that Doyle was playing. Thanks
03:04 is Freight Train
04:26 is Saturday Night Shuffle
I don't know the names of the other two
The tune that starts at 1:24, is "Yes Ma'am" from Chet's 1964 album called Guitar Country. Jerry was one of the finest fingerstyle guitar tune composers of all times! Enjoy!
3:43
Does anyone know the song? I neeeeeeeed it.
Can someone name the songs he plays in this video? I have no idea what they are (just now getting into fingerstlye guitar)
whoa mama...
What is the Jerry Reed song he plays first?
Doyle is so skilled - I just wish he didn't play so much music that sounds like A.M. radio music. His cover of Free Bird is a great example of his virtuosity being used to create a more contemporary sound. If only he did more of that!
Is there a guitarist out there who plays that way consistently, so I can anchor in to that, and ask an instructor to teach me to play like that?
WHAT'S THAT SONG AT 3:41 ??!!!? AND THE ONE AT 4:07 ?!?
DAMN I LIKE THAT GUY.
Hi Marc. They are both parts of 'Guitar Rag'. It's a great tune.
Is king kong kin to Bigfoot??does big foot play guitar that wood be somthing to see
1:48 3:04 3:44 4:18 what genre is this,where I can find more?? :>
@@colbynewman9373 Could you be more precisely?
Whats the Jerry Hubbard song around 1:40?
Wonder how Fender got Doyle away from Taylor? He is an amazing talent.
what song is playing at the beginning
What is the name of the song he starts playing around 3:04?
That would be "Freight Train". (=
where can i buy this model of guitar?
dani west in guitar shops
Be prepared to spend upwards of $4.5k (Low end)
@@eamonwright7488 thats cheap
Doyle, I know you have your endorsements but have you ever picked up a Duesenberg guitar? No Fender, Gibson or Guild guitar has more quality built in than the Duesenberg. Nor do they have any better sound than the Duesenberg or playability no matter what age the guitar is.
Does anybody know the name of the tune Doyle plays at around 1:30 of this video? Thx!
The tune that starts at 1:24, is "Yes Ma'am" from Chet's 1964 album called Guitar Country. Jerry was one of the finest fingerstyle guitar tune composers of all times! Enjoy
Dated Jerry's Niece in Pasadena Tx in the early 90,s. Her name was...wait for it.....Jeri...😊 Her mother was Jerrys Sister.
mule skinner blues is the first song
Here I thought Chet was a Gretch man, cause' I almost bought a Gretch Chet endorsed guitar called the "Super Axe"and it had on board effects like chorus compressor, etc. Well I guess he endorsed a lot of guitars, like the Gibson "Country Gentleman",Gretch 6120,Gibson CEG (Classical Electric Guitar)
The County Gentleman guitar is made by Gretch. They made it for Chet so
he would promote it.
Oh man I'm mixed up sorry...
Chet started with Gretsch guitars and the original line of Chet Atkins guitars were made by them from 1955-1980. He left Gretsch after Fred Gretsch Jr. died, and the family sold it the company to Baldwin. Chet then moved to Gibson. In 2007, Gretsch came to an agreement with the Atkins family and again began producing Chet Atkins guitars.
Where are the 24 hideous trolls who could possibly dislike this?
He sounds better on a Gretsch than on a Tele, for instance.
When I play my gretsch I dont sound anything like that.
Hey JERRY REED KIZS
Frets buzzzing!??.
Love his playing but wish I could hear what he is saying because he has some very interesting comments along with his playing but they are lost in the poor mike sound.
Doyle is one of the best. He aint no verdie Glenn though
Games
Only
Man I wonder what that would sound like on your basic Strat??
Chet’s sound was a clean studio sound where his music by other artist trying to copy him is totally lost. There will never be another Chet.
Did Jerry play with a whammy bar? Shame about Glen Campbell. x
Great picken the chicken
Nor is he a Tommy Emmanuel.
