Hey Pap, of all the GT4 challenge videos that became popular on RUclips (and inspired me to get back into GT4), your 200 point challenge is my favorite by a wide margin, and I really hope you make more GT4 content. I wanted to do my own challenge (which I posted on Reddit and TheGamingDefinition's Discord) where I finished each event with the cheapest car possible (buy price+upgrades, no prize cars-which makes this a de-facto no upgrade challenge for the easier events). To cap it off, I wanted to do the GTWC with a standard production car, without leaning on easy competition like the Gillet, CLK GTR, etc.. but it wasn't viable, so I used the Motul Pitworks Z with a stage 4 turbo, which worked perfectly and was an excellent alternative (and not that difficult to get) beating a moderate lobby with none of the easy opponents. Honestly stunning how good it was with 940 hp, didn't even adjust the suspension settings. Also tried to use the Zonda LM in a similar event in the extreme hall, but it had horrible tire wear and I got cocky trying to beat an R92 and R89. Questions about your run- is the BMW 120D just that good? For FR I used the stock Skyline GTS-T and the competition was pretty stiff. Is the Callaway rated very poorly for points, because I never got a sub-100 point race trying out the 96 Corvette, Camaros, etc.. for Supercar- ended up using the Mustang SVT Cobra, which was excellent. The Compact cup seems very difficult with the 50 hp Nissan, I failed with the Honda City Turbo but crushed them with the 1990 SiR.
Thanks man, I'm glad I was your inspiration to get back into GT4. I dont have any particular GT4 content in mind, so i probably wont make anything anytime soon. Nothing has really piqued my interest to play the game again. I didnt do all that much research into what cars were "best" for 200 points early in the run. I thought this run would force me to use cars that I never would have as a kid (and it did) - my races were like 1-10 points back then lol. So I cant really answer your questions about whether the BMW 120d or the Callaway C12 or any of the other cars were the best choices for this particular challenge - more that it gave me an opportunity to make the game more difficult for myself. From memory, I think the Legacy B4 Blitzen, the elise 111R and the car I used for the world classic car (I think it was the Honda s800 or s600) came from suggestions in an old GT4 forum. Aside from that, I usually picked cars just that I felt like could take on the challenge, using WildCobraZ28's guide a little to make sure I wouldnt buy a car that was too good and waste money.
@@Papamanual Hello again, I'm planning on streaming my own 200 point challenge run when I get OBS figured out. I already have configs for pretty much every event in the Beginner+professional halls, that I haven't seen done before and aren't cheating with the Dodge Ram. Also learned that suspension upgrades don't affect points, so racing or semi-racing is a no brainer. Granted, one car I'm using cannot be obtained without a sub-200 point race (Lotus Elan) I've learned a special trick that makes finding a viable lobby in GTWC much easier- lowering the downforce in the 787B (or the Toyota GT-one, which I actually prefer) to less than the 63F/88R default, something like 50/60 which is still far more than the LM race cars (38/53) and makes finding a 200 point lobby far easier. This also explains why the Chapparal 2J is rated poorly for points as it has 0/0 downforce, even with an oil change and medium tires getting a 200 point race is easy, although I have trouble not spinning out.
That was sick! You did a really great job, was really interesting to see if this challenge is possible. Although I'm pretty NOT sure I'm gonna ever try to repeat this challenge by myself 😅

Seeing how many people seem to think the driving assists are so detrimental. Im wondering if its worth doing an "all driving assists maxxed" challenge run lol
Never knew that black 787B could make 200PTS and considerably its more doable to win than trying to win with new R390 GT1 equiped with hard tires which only gives about 190+PTS. ( Correct me if Im mistaken ) but 10x more difficult. Your next challenge will be : Can you win the dreaded 206 one-make-race with 200PTS. PS : Great driving. Keep this vid series going.
This might be the best Gran Turismo challenge run that I've seen! The challenge can be applied to 100% of the game, allows every mechanic and characteristic of it, and has its difficulty intrinsic in it since this was never one intended way to complete the game nor is an objective at any point to complete a race with max points due to its difficulty, yet existing the point system as an instrument that can be used to challenge yourself other than indicating the difficulty of a race. All of this while ensuring fun because doesn't deviate much from the intended way to play encouraging you to keep high-level performance and find some loops around complications but not relying too much on those, nor having that many fun/difficulty breaking ones, and it's a natural (semi-intended) way to increase the difficulty. For the execution, different approaches are shown, banning those considered overpowered, in-depth exploration of mechanics, usage of a huge variety of features, playing the pre-run part instead of loading a savefile (licenses and missions), etc... One thing I miss is focus on two things, the Cr. management and the unlockables bits. Money might've not been a problem at any time but isn't mentioned either when pretty much it's a thing in almost every challenge run in a game that has currency, especially when you mentioned the RAM was maxed out and a lot of spare parts for the Elise were bought, and about the unlockables, would be nice if you mentioned where you unlocked the cars you used, or if one particular unlock would be used later or whatever, also missions are not available from the very start but this is being finicky (adding all footage things I suggested here and bellow wouldn't add much to the length of the video, even though I assume that's not a problem, and some of them don't require much effort but IMO improve the quality or make the video more comprehensive for someone who doesn't know much about the subject or played the game back in the days as kids). And being picky I also miss some little more expansion or brief highlights of the pre-run; a timmer and a view of the inputs could've been added since there is a lot of unused space in the overlay; and a brief introduction, especially of the instruments used or available, for example, if it was done in an original PS2 or emulator and why you chose so, the controller used, if original Dualshock 2, Xbox controller or wheel with pedals or whatever and advantages or disadvantages of those (but also at some point a mention or a brief explanation of the racing lines or generals about racing, for example, may be hard for some people to understand or figure out what's going on with the tinny mistakes you talk about that are so relevant when you change to street tires, I hope I explained myself ^^); also HD textures or better quality of the game itself would be nice if possible (I assume it was played in original hardware and not in an emulator). So thank you for the video! I'd love to see more of this challenge, maybe following the series towards 100% completion with separate videos for Special Events, Endurance races, all Manufacturer events, or whatever.
Wow! Thanks for the big (and positive comment). So yeah, to address some of your queries, credits management wasnt a thing I put a lot of thought into when starting... However, the reason i did the driving missions was to to have extra cars to sell for more cash. Most cars I managed to get to work first time, but I did waste a decent amount of cash... Nevertheless, I believe it might actually possible (with a proper route) to do this challenge without having to grind for more money (aside from driving mission car sales)... I did twice grind for more money (buying the Chapparal 2J and then again to by the Mazda 787B and Nissan R390)... Another thing i had to grind for was getting to the correct day to buy the black LMP cars, but again with a proper route, you could probably do this easily before day 700 and less day grinding would be possible (also could potentially win with a different car that isnt a Black LMP) Basically all the cars I bought from used showrooms or the dealerships... I explained in my vid where necessary if I won a car that I ended up using (like the Nissan Motul Pitwork Z) Yes adding driving missions into the video would just make it more bloated imo... general audiences want to get straight to the point (see Mr Beast vids) I used emulator with basically stock settings since I dont own an NTSC ps2 and my PAL PS2 is broken. I dont know how to upgrade textures to HD or anything like that. And 100% completion with only 200 point races is impossible for a few of the 1-make events.
I don't think I've ever cared about racing games since Lotus Espirit Turbo Challenge 2, in 1991. But I came to your vid while watching game challenges, and I have to say your running commentary during each race had me hooked. Great job, on what looked like one heck of a challenge!
I watched this video thinking it was from a small, unknown channel, enjoying the video thoroughly, and subsequently subscribing. I then go into your videos and find Ive already watched most of your videos! I had no idea
Impressive run and entertaining watch! Just want to say I've ended up tying a championship before and didn't end up getting the 1st place reward, although you also could've avoided this scenario by letting your B-spec driver finish the race at Suzuka and earn 1 point for coming last
I have to say, I'm surprised at how many Gran Turismo youtubers manage to do well while having driving aids enabled. It is much more difficult to drive fast or safe yourself when driving aids are enabled. Props! On the other hand, I never use NOS apart from tuning for highspeed. In races back when GT4 came out I didn't use it in races and I very rarely do nowadays. Only for self set challenges like driving a street car against race cars.
The N1, N2 and N3 tires? Try them all on your favorite cars, on a time trial on your favorite tracks. Those tires are like realistic sim tires. They taught me so much.
Me: Ooh, I'm interested to see how noted Punch-out badass Pap does in a game that has nothing to do with boxing Pap: Okay, so next up is Boxer Spirit Me: Waitwut So is a Boxer engine just Mike Tyson throwing uppercuts at the ground from the back seat?
@@Papamanual Ah if you use an emulator like pcsx2 you can change rendering resolution in the graphics settings to render models at higher quality and there are other options to smooth textures. It all looks sort of weird to me but it makes the game look newer
Well, this is tough. But let me say one thing: the hardest challenge in GT4 is obtain gold in all licenses. If you can do this, You can win almost races with use Mazda 787B easily. You just have to drive clean, make no mistakes. But the margin of error to take gold in licenses is minor. Misson 34 is harder than anything else too. I recomend play this game with a good steering wheel.
Just a tip, reducing the rear ride height (if you can) can regain any grip loss you may have from other setup changes. As a matter of fact, this effect is so exaggerated in GT4, I'd be careful not to overdo it and induce understeer.
Is it bad that I had anxiety over this playthough because I kept seeing the oil light on all the cars you had? This is a fun challenge and is making me want to play GT4 again.
Really good video. I'm the opposite to yourself. Now I'm old I don't feel like I have the time to mess about struggling to beat the difficult races, I'm always on the lookout for short cuts, and since the Artificial Idiots are always going to ram me, they're getting it back before they do.
I love tuning with Normal tires for below 300ish HP. They handle more like real life tires. Understeer needs to be compensated for by suspension tuning and driving style. Harder tires on the rear may help or hurt depending on your cars weight distribution and drivetrain
Wow, this brought back a lot of GT memories about mostly aspects I hated. I remember the stupid opponents with 1 or 2 cars that were WAY faster and knowing it averaged the scores makes total sense. Some of these were WAY crazier than expected and it definitely showed you're used to grinding out challenges. I eventually played Forza 3 and 4, which while aren't perfect sims, had overall better physics/sound/interface and felt better in areas GT4 severely lacked. The 360 controller is vastly superior for trigger modulation and feel over the Dualshock. I now vividly remember how GT AI is slow AF in corners but somehow way faster in race cars with the fastest LM cars feeling like playing at 3x speed. Driving aids like traction and stability almost always are slower (they're too slow and thus sacrifice grip) IRL and in sims and can't lie people will think less of someone using them. I'd watch you try a Forza run (not horizon) but maybe the later Gran Turismo games greatly improved realism? Also, last thing, one huge handicap in more realistic racing games is that you're gonna way oversteer with the analog stick in corner entry especially and thus understeer losing a lot of time. I could never modulate steering with the sticks, maybe others can, but a wheel is ideal to input 20% steering instead of 100% and instantly losing front grip and just plowing wide. Not sure how much you're familiar with IRL driving dynamics but those are some of the big time losses in racing games. Anyway, nice vid and seriously impressed with how hard some of those races were!
i don't think TCS assist is useful ever except on ridiculously over powered 2wd cars, you'll notice even when you have it lowered it fires off the flashing ! when you use NOS in a straight line, and at that point thats wasted horsepower. i'm not great at gran turismo by any stretch, but i always set tcs and acs to 0 with every car i buy, why would a 60s car have TCS? ect ect.
BTW. the Dodge RAM 1500 tuned to the max pretty much guarantees you 200 pts. races in the rally series but is actually OP because of the massive torque and horsepower figures that come handy on the straights. For the rest of the track, wall riding should suffice.
Are you playing on PCSX2? If you turn clamping mode to full it won't say full throttle or get ready at the bottom during the race. Also, in the game's screen settings, setting to 480 Progressive (I think it's called that? whichever is the one between 480p and 1080p) will make the video much clearer
Triple wheel clutch doesn't work in low displacement engines, and disable all nerf driving assistance, in my experience I used to just drive in 200pts reward to seek the underdogs, and sleepers, like Acura nsx, Shelby gtone series, gsx, Nissan 240z, Toyota gt2000, Mazda 110,mercury cougar, etc, etc

@@Papamanual
Hello again, I'm planning on streaming my own 200 point challenge run when I get OBS figured out. I already have configs for pretty much every event in the Beginner+professional halls, that I haven't seen done before and aren't cheating with the Dodge Ram. Also learned that suspension upgrades don't affect points, so racing or semi-racing is a no brainer. Granted, one car I'm using cannot be obtained without a sub-200 point race (Lotus Elan)
I've learned a special trick that makes finding a viable lobby in GTWC much easier- lowering the downforce in the 787B (or the Toyota GT-one, which I actually prefer) to less than the 63F/88R default, something like 50/60 which is still far more than the LM race cars (38/53) and makes finding a 200 point lobby far easier.
Thanks!
Pap: Starts playing San Francisco at Night at 2:20
Me: Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well.
Even though I'm unfamiliar with this series, and I doubt this video will perform that well for the upcoming weeks, I still appreciate the time and effort put into new types of content.
Even if it's not Punch Out, I'll try to stay in touch with the content.
Can I just say, your taste in video game music is sublime - was really vibing along to that Tekken 5 battle track, and the GTA V banger whilst you were racing the 787B!
I wanted to say the same thing! The Driver and Plok music really caught me off-guard the moment I heard them, hahah
I actually really enjoyed this! I hope you do more challenges on racing games like this, this was really fun to watch!
Dude, you deserve waaaaaaaay more subscribers, your storytelling is on point, and i freaking loved that you didn't chated to make things easier 🎉
11:30 It just occurred to me that the Toyota Sports 800 is a boxer car, and I've seen somebody win boxer spirit in it in a Toyota only challenge. It was 200 point as well IIRC.
I did see that about a month after I made this video lol. There are apparently a small handful of cars with boxer engines that are not Subaru or RUF
@@Papamanual 2CV Type A Citroen 1954,
Beetle 1100 Standard (Type-11) Volkswagen 1949,
Karmann Ghia Coupe (Type-1) Volkswagen 1968 and
Sports 800 Toyota 1965 are also Boxer engine cars in GT4.
you resemble ted kacynzki more and more with each re-try or hour and a half of re-entering races, you have determination like no other. please consider more self-torture for entertainment's sake, this is a great video and i long for more
I like how Driver 1's music plays in the background :D ❤
For playing one of the best racing games ever made, this video is a welcome treat for me. *Also boxer engine jumpscare lol*
Well crafted/researched video, I always wondered if something like this would be possible!
14:43 I like how you just rammed that poor dude off the road, without reacting to it in the slightest, stone faced killer move right there.
Its the same face I make when I receive good news. lol
God; seeing that you got that far in the challenge with the driving "assists" on is wild. those assists make License tests hell, imagine doing 200 pt. races in them
Seeing how many people seem to think the driving assists are so detrimental.
Another thing i had to grind for was getting to the correct day to buy the black LMP cars, but again with a proper route, you could probably do this easily before day 700 and less day grinding would be possible (also could potentially win with a different car that isnt a Black LMP)
Basically all the cars I bought from used showrooms or the dealerships... I explained in my vid where necessary if I won a car that I ended up using (like the Nissan Motul Pitwork Z)
Yes adding driving missions into the video would just make it more bloated imo... general audiences want to get straight to the point (see Mr Beast vids)
I used emulator with basically stock settings since I dont own an NTSC ps2 and my PAL PS2 is broken.
I still can't believe I enjoyed a video this long from start to finish. Talk about immersive storytelling!
Probably one of the hardest and interesting challenges I`ve seen for gt4. Really Well Done!
toyota has 1 car which can enter boxer spirit. which is the Toyota Sports 800.
It drives me insane that you can't 200 a-spec 100% the game because it is literally impossible in some races without mods
I was thinking of doing 100% but im glad I didnt, both because its not possible and because it wouldve taken me forrrrrrrrrrrrever lol.
Or you're kid named Speedster Championship (I think that's what it's called) where your opel speedster is still 200 pts with a maxed out speedster
Love how this channel randomly appeared in my recommended been lying here binge watching this is my favorite video so far
Absolute mad man GT4 challenge, insane. Good content and story narration
I watched this video thinking it was from a small, unknown channel, enjoying the video thoroughly, and subsequently subscribing. I then go into your videos and find Ive already watched most of your videos! I had no idea
Impressive run and entertaining watch! Just want to say I've ended up tying a championship before and didn't end up getting the 1st place reward, although you also could've avoided this scenario by letting your B-spec driver finish the race at Suzuka and earn 1 point for coming last
Thanks!
True, I couldve let B-spec Bob get me the 1 point, but in the moment I just foreited cause I wanted to do it all A-spec
Bravo! What a watch this was. Your commentary, your playstyle, the fact you didn't cheese as much... Love that
Great video. That 6th place twice to 1st was incredible!
This is the most based challenge run I've ever seen, bravo
Watching you drive makes me feel better about myself.
this is peak gaming and the soundtrack choices are fuckin inspired, thanks for reminding me of the absolute glory that is the driver ost
MAD respect for the Monopoly soundtrack. Never heard anyone use music from that game before!
What a grind.
GG. Absolute legend!
Probably my favourite racing game playthrough ever.. you have a new sub 😁 and you've encouraged me to dig out the PS2 and fire up GT4 again too
the police chase music from most wanted in the last section made this very tense! good choice!!
Just discovered your channel an i love it. Everything just works really well.
Keep it up
Me: Ooh, I'm interested to see how noted Punch-out badass Pap does in a game that has nothing to do with boxing
Pap: Okay, so next up is Boxer Spirit
Me: Waitwut
So is a Boxer engine just Mike Tyson throwing uppercuts at the ground from the back seat?
Next video "How many Mike Tyson Uppercuts does it take to power a v8 engine?"
I appreciate that you don't upscale or smooth textures too much, the aliasing and blurriness are integral to the ps2 vibe
I didnt because i dont know how to lol
@@Papamanual Ah if you use an emulator like pcsx2 you can change rendering resolution in the graphics settings to render models at higher quality and there are other options to smooth textures. It all looks sort of weird to me but it makes the game look newer
Great job, bud. This one was on the painful side, I'm so glad you managed to pull it off
No pain, no gain
Awesome vid. The only "improvement" on the challenge would be winning every 200 point race.
Thats true, although i didnt feel like making a 10 hour vid lol
The NFS Carbon(?) music works soooo well!
Good video! :D
He’s done it!
Loving all the GTubers lately
39:20 "I don't really want to win like that" also pap 14:46
Just a tip, reducing the rear ride height (if you can) can regain any grip loss you may have from other setup changes. As a matter of fact, this effect is so exaggerated in GT4, I'd be careful not to overdo it and induce understeer.
I know nothing about this game but this was very entertaining, well done!
That race at Grand Valley was cinema stuff. Brilliant
I love the use of the Unreal Tournament 1999 music
I love tuning with Normal tires for below 300ish HP. They handle more like real life tires. Understeer needs to be compensated for by suspension tuning and driving style. Harder tires on the rear may help or hurt depending on your cars weight distribution and drivetrain
I felt my Neurons Activating the moment I heard San Francisco Night OST, rare to see someone using Driver soundtrack in videos
Turns up to a Sunday Cup with NOS. Lmao
Dom Toretto would do it
love rewatching this video
great job man
Watched this 3 days in a row, FUCKING BRILLIANT VIDEO. Timeless masterpiece
Oil changes and TC Off! :)
Respect bro, beautiful challenge
Well I've never played Gran Turismo and I don't really know anything about cars but I watched this whole video and immensely enjoyed it.
You won me over when you started playing Driver 1 music
i don't think TCS assist is useful ever except on ridiculously over powered 2wd cars, you'll notice even when you have it lowered it fires off the flashing ! when you use NOS in a straight line, and at that point thats wasted horsepower.
i'm not great at gran turismo by any stretch, but i always set tcs and acs to 0 with every car i buy, why would a 60s car have TCS? ect ect.
Now this is a great idea for a challenge run.
Looking forward to your next GT4 video.
BTW. the Dodge RAM 1500 tuned to the max pretty much guarantees you 200 pts. races in the rally series but is actually OP because of the massive torque and horsepower figures that come handy on the straights. For the rest of the track, wall riding should suffice.
I was aware of the Dodge RAM, so I used it in the sports truck race only.
This video was awesome, you gotta do a sequel with the extreme tracks!
Are you playing on PCSX2? If you turn clamping mode to full it won't say full throttle or get ready at the bottom during the race. Also, in the game's screen settings, setting to 480 Progressive (I think it's called that? whichever is the one between 480p and 1080p) will make the video much clearer
Oh, just realized it looks like you fixed the clamping issue, the other fix might still help
Brutal, niche challenge in this game sure try to drain your life force but they're extremely satisfying to complete.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, what a feat!
26:05 12 July: Used cars as good as new!!
love the Plok! music in the background
55:06 the crest chicane honestly isn't that bad once you get used to it. personally for me that's one of the easiest parts of that track.
Wired controller would solve the disconnection issues, unless its Windows usb driver going dumb
you had me invested the full 1 hour and 4 minutes 🤣
the Mazda Mazda 6 concept can be used in clubman cup and rally events but thats about it
awesome cut and pace of your video mate, interesting thruout
The only thing scarier than the boxer races themselves is what they’re named after.. man, imagine being named after a guy who raises pigeons
Great idea and great video mate 👍
45:16 I see you don’t mention that you literally refused to fix this for weeks 😂
Why mention my self inflicted suffering lol
